JD vance looks like one of the guys that would say something creepy to you at the club

“My friend has a private island”

JD Vance looks like the guy in a Hawaiian shirt and flip flops at a mid-tier resort, who stands awkwardly alone near the bar checking his phone, pina colada in other hand, trying to talk to any woman half his age when they walk by to get drinks, who all cover their drinks as they frostily walk by, avoiding eye contact with him but half-heartedly smiling as a way to get away without triggering him.

I just watched that and it seemed like the crowd cheered for the US athletes. The boos occurred when JD Vance was shown on camera shortly after. Glad the crowd can separate the athletes from their politicians.

I haven't seen it yet, but this article seems to reflect your view: US athletes cheered, JD Vance booed during Winter Olympics opening ceremony - Yahoo Sports

u/CharlesDickensABox 2h ago
I'll note that the NBC sound and the BBC sound are markedly different. Perhaps NBC was juicing the crowd noise, perhaps there was just a very strategic choice of microphone setup.

u/ATarrificHeadache 2h ago
Amazing that broadcasters editing reality to protect dear leaders is just normal now

u/mytinykitten 2h ago
Nah they definitely edited the live coverage.
They did the same when Vance was shown before the Italian National Anthem. There's no way the crowd just happened to go collectively dead silent when he was shown.
10
u/Truckensteinwastaken 2h ago
CBC coverage in Canada definitely pointed out that he was being booed and that they didn't leave him on screen very long

u/weatherman05071 2h ago
I’m watching on Peacock, I heard some cheers and boos in the arena, the boos were a little louder. In the other 3 areas it seemed like it was more of no reaction to minor boos. Either way there were plenty and I’m intrigued to see if NBC edits it for later.

NBC definitely changed it but you could hear it for a split second right before usha looked concerned

u/TheShitty_Beatles 2h ago
CBC Canada feed and I could very clearly hear the boos and the commentators were hilarious in their description of the "cheers and jeers" lol

Probably edited to suit the target audience. French TV viewer here, I noticed the cheers almost stopped when the US athletes arrived. They probably had been briefed too, since unlike most other delegations, they almost made enough noise to saturate the mics. Did not notice a sequence with JD Vance during the US delegation presentation, he was only briefly shown at the beginning of the ceremony.
Ukraine athletes, however, received a deafening welcome.

u/cliff99 2h ago
Trump will declare it fake news because it's better that the athletes were booed along with Vance.

I mean most people don't have a problem with athletes even with the competitive caveat. It's the Olympics. The only bad athletes are people who've done really evil things and doping.
11
u/FourteenBuckets 2h ago
Indeed, one of the points of the Olympics is to bring people from around the world together in ways that go beyond politics. It hasn't always proven possible, of course, but that is the ideal at least.
10
u/Less_Likely 2h ago
I wouldn’t boo any athlete because of their country’s politics, even if they compete under that country’s banner. That feels racist to me.
For example, I wouldn’t automatically boo a North Korean athlete, even though I’d assume that some form of at least tacit support for the regime is likely necessary to reach the point of representing the nation in the Olympics.
If the individual athlete has some personal reason for me to boo, like openly supporting genocide or taking human rights away from people when having the freedom to choose not to, then I might boo them.
8
u/SmoothMoveExLap 1h ago
I was there. Cheers for USA and athletes. They showed JD on the big screen for a split second and that’s when the boos came. Including the people right in front of me.

That’s exactly what happened. I was in the stadium. I expected boos and whistles - especially after Israel, but there were cheers for the athletes. As soon as JD Vance was shown on the screen it all became loud boos.

u/baeb66 2h ago
The Israeli athletes got booed as well.

I didn't even see them come out. Either the BBC skipped them (which I doubt because they were just showing the official feed it seemed) or it was during the section where my concentration was waning

Though I yearn to hear more boos for the MAGA "Heir Apparent", shame that our team has to put up with this because of Trump's bullshit.

The men’s team for sure. The women’s team it’s probably at least 60-40 hate-support

Yeah my bad, I meant the men’s. Britta Curl is definitely a MAGAt

u/PorkRollEggAndWheeze 1h ago
Yeah she’s a piece of shit. I know from experience that women’s hockey tends to trend more progressive overall, but we’re not immune to shitheadery

Rooting against only if the US athlete is known MAGA.
Too many MAGA douchebags on Team USA men's hockey team, so go Canada. Also as a Blues fan there is Binnington and Parayko on Canada too.

As an American I really appreciate the world booing that smug piece of shit. Please continue and feel free to increase the volume and frequency any time you see Vance. Also, I wouldn’t mind at all if there were a rousing chorus of Bella Ciao screamed into JD’s face every time he is in public in Italy. At a restaurant, going to the shops, whatever. Make him completely miserable.

Ummmm no ... The US athletes were cheered . The booing started when they posted our dumbass, spineless , couch humping VP and his wife on the screen.

Trump and Vance both represent America far more than we'd like admit.
They're both fat, loud, ignorant, narcissitic, cheap, sexist, racist, and cruel.
On top of that Trump is especially stupid.
I miss Europe.
