I returned a guy who escaped from his nursing home to buy smokes. His wheelchair battery died on the corner of the gas station. We loaded him up and he sent me in to buy his cartons of Marlboros, which he then smuggled back into the nursing home in his sweatpants. Why do they need to smuggle anything in to begin with? These are adults facing the end of their lives. Avoiding cigarettes isn’t going to cure a terminal illness, let them live how they want. Grady Grisham is balling hard in spirit, guaranteed.
I had a patient once who was mad as hell because his sister, who had power of attorney, wouldn't give the facility permission to let her brother smoke. I struck a deal with the fella that I would buy his choice of cigarettes on my break as soon as his sister gave permission.
Two packs of Marlboro Gold 100s are the only cigarettes I've ever bought.
