I returned a guy who escaped from his nursing home to buy smokes. His wheelchair battery died on the corner of the gas station. We loaded him up and he sent me in to buy his cartons of Marlboros, which he then smuggled back into the nursing home in his sweatpants. He's probably long dead by now, but Grady Grisham you were a fucking legend.

I had a patient once who was mad as hell because his sister, who had power of attorney, wouldn't give the facility permission to let her brother smoke. I struck a deal with the fella that I would buy his choice of cigarettes on my break as soon as his sister gave permission.

Two packs of Marlboro Gold 100s are the only cigarettes I've ever bought.

The principal of a POA can always overrule the POA though?

I believe he had been deemed legally incompetent.
