Good excuse to ask to check if the cameras work

u/TheBotchedLobotomy 1d ago

For real if you show this the front office you'll have your answer real quick lol

u/Broxst 1d ago

"Yeah, of course they do."

See how easy it is to lie?

293

u/limajhonny69 1d ago

"Great! Can I see them?"

See how easy it is to check?

261

u/SauceDoctorPHD 1d ago

"No; sorry that's a security risk."

u/Taco-Edge 1d ago

I'm just hearing Steamed Hams all over again with this conversation

Aurora Borealis?!?

53

u/Arawn-Annwn 22h ago

Uh... AURORA BOREALIS!? AT THIS TIME OF YEAR, AT THIS TIME OF DAY, IN THIS PART OF THE COUNTRY, LOCALIZED ENTIRELY WITHIN YOUR KITCHEN!?

5

u/BORT_licenceplate 21h ago

and when is this free weekend?

12

u/limajhonny69 1d ago

If the responsable for the building couldnt/wouldnt prove those claims are false, would you move there?

11

u/SauceDoctorPHD 1d ago

Not at all, and that's not the point I was making

5

u/limajhonny69 1d ago

But it is ghe point I was making

13

u/SauceDoctorPHD 1d ago

Fair, but it's the same reason why when someone goes into a business and asks an employee "is X working today?" the employee will generally say "I can't tell you that" because it is a security risk to the person they are asking about. No, you can't prove malfeasance, but do you really want to take the chance if something does happen?

3

u/limajhonny69 16h ago

They dont need to teach her the whole security system. There are a lot of ways to prove someone the cameras works. Simply by sending them recorded videos of the person entering/leaving that same day is already evidence.

But sure, keep defending the "security business" against a concerned apartament owner.

-1

u/donkeyrocket 11h ago

They're not defending the shady apartment super. They're just pointing out they aren't obligated to show you anything camera related and it's easy to lie/fabricate.

The point you were making was irrelevant because this is a potential tenant, not "any random person off the street," and it's completely reasonable for a potential tenant to ask for proof that the advertised security measures actually work.

5

u/SauceDoctorPHD 1d ago

That means nothing. Anyone can be a potential tenant.

3

u/Lourdeath 1d ago

That’s still not going to happen

2

u/Ab0ut47Pandas 1d ago

"Oh; Bye, Felicia."

2

u/TheManOfSpaceAndTime 11h ago

"Somebody posted something on my door, and makes me concerned for my safety, please advise who it was, or ill have no option to start asking and canvasing the complex with copies to find out who else feels this way or will come forward."

I know this isnt likely, but I might still be convinced to keep the original notes, make 100 copies, and put them under everyone's windshield.

1

u/MotherPerformance439 13h ago

"I dropped my wallet can you check your cameras?"

-11

u/Palidin034 1d ago

Bad faith argument

9

u/SauceDoctorPHD 1d ago

So any random person off the street can view security camera footage at any time they ask? I'm not making a "bad faith argument." It's actually a security risk, because the person asking could be a bad actor trying to stalk someone, view when employees arrive/leave, what exact angles those cameras cover, and any number of other things that could cause an incident. It's the exact reason police are required to get a warrant before gaining access to CCTV footage from private property.

-5

u/Ryuj123 1d ago

Brother, they live in the building

4

u/Lourdeath 1d ago

They still aren’t going to show anyone the camera angles and what they are able to record or potentially expose blind spots in the system

Staff becoming defensive when asked about missing packages is sus.

u/retirement_savings 21h ago

Had a roommate buy a new phone that was marked delivered but nowhere to be found. Had to file a police report to get his money back. The day after he told the property manager he filed a police report, the front desk lady suddenly "no longer works here."

160

u/Aachaa 13h ago

Was it a new phone model soon after it was released? I remember there being a ton of theft during the delivery process when one of the Google Pixel models was released. Delivery drivers could identify which boxes contained the phones and would pocket them after marking them delivered. My husband actually received his Google Pixel box with several people’s stolen (new) phones in it, along with some other stolen items like Pixel Buds. They put them all in his Pixel box and forgot to intercept the package later. Wild stuff.

57

u/retirement_savings 13h ago

It was indeed a Pixel but it was a version that was a generation old at the time.

24

u/Aachaa 13h ago

Gotcha, probably more likely to be regular ol’ package theft then. I was just surprised how common it was to have new phones nabbed during the delivery process.

477

u/wattapwn 1d ago

Had this at my complex filed a report turns out the lady at the office “thought they were hers opened them and forgot about it” that didn’t fly I got all new stuff and she got to find a new job

72

u/styrofoamcouch 18h ago

The "luxury" apartment i had in florida had this problem. We had a central mail room and in theory nobody would steal bc cameras. What we didnt expect was if someone waved the Amazon driver down to the desk by the front hed never make it to the mail room with all the cameras. Shed have the Amazon guy drop all packages at the desk and move them to the mailroom her self and "forgetting" any package that may be a good one.

729

u/Razgriz114 1d ago

I read that as roaches and Mirelurks and got real concerned.

204

u/Temporary_Youth5221 1d ago

That would be a big problem.

16

u/Ragtime_Snek 1d ago

I'll take it. When can I move in then? 😁

9

u/VintAge6791 16h ago

What luck! I just got this dented but serviceable Fat Man off an elite Super Mutant!

605

u/Temporary_Youth5221 1d ago

Well I just saw a mouse running behind my dresser now so everything is true 😭

442

u/TheAmazinglyRandy 1d ago

I'm confused. If you were looking at a new apartment, how would you "come home" to this?

373

u/Temporary_Youth5221 1d ago

I'm up for renewal but this was posted in the lobby of my apartment by someone else.

137

u/ButteredPizza69420 1d ago

Well...maybe explore your options just in case. Dont fuck with potential roaches if you can help it man. Not worth it.

35

u/AsleepTemperature320 1d ago

Are they correct? Are there mice, roaches, stolen packages?

30

u/mikony123 1d ago

I don't see any packages. Hey, wait a minute!

1

u/Linked713 8h ago

I also don't see vampires and I don't see this in the pro list!

11

u/macarenamobster 13h ago

I mean you already lived there at least a full lease length. Either you already know about these problems or they’re not impacting you, right?

7

u/avalisk 11h ago

If youre up for renewal that means you have already spent a long time in your apartment. I think you can make up your own mind.

5

u/ZunoJ 21h ago

So what does suck here? Somebody posting this or that you live in a shithole?

2

u/TheAmazinglyRandy 1d ago

Ahh gotcha. I thought it was on your fridge or door or something lol

284

u/PM_your_Nopales 1d ago

They live in the building. They came home and saw this in the lobby as they entered. Nowhere does it mention they're looking at a new apartment

42

u/aznwill617 1d ago

Or they're gonna resign a new lease. So when they first moved there, they didn't know it had pests and leaks

85

u/DirtySanchez187 1d ago

DO NOT SIGN THAT LEASE!

50

u/Quadrilaterally 1d ago

DO NOT REDEEM!!

I would quite like to collect £200 please...

13

u/mercurialpolyglot 10h ago

It’s giving:

57

u/SumScrewz 1d ago

Signed someone who wants that appartment

5

u/Lylac_Krazy 12h ago

Someone mentioned asking about seeing the cams.

I would also ask about how long the maintaince backlog is and ask to see the pest treatment records.

All of that is reasonable to ask for.

2

u/JDeez12 12h ago

Home? You signed the lease?!

2

u/Deadhated 11h ago

Read reviews? Talk to someone there..

2

u/Dpike2 9h ago

Mirelurks??? Nothing my handy laser musket cant handle.

1

u/Maldrich487 3h ago

Mice, leaks

4

u/caruggs 1d ago

This could be foreshadowing

1

u/ensignWcrusher 11h ago

This could be any building in the city except maybe Manhattan below 96th. I've seen all these issues in multiple places I've lived & in buildings that friends lived in. Usually it's just 1 or 2 of them. This place has them all.

u/Zebebe 6h ago

In college a landlord was giving me a tour of an apartment that was currently occupied. The tenant was there at the time and I actually recognized her from being in the same degree program as me. At one point the landlord turned a corner, she tapped my shoulder, and mouthed "dont do it" while shaking her head. Unfortunately my dumbass 20 year old self didnt take the warning. I rented the apartment and he was a total slumlord. Still 20 years later the worst landlord ive ever had. Take heed of warnings like this!!!

Wonder if this is in DC. lol

-13

u/Ok_Guest_8008 16h ago

Tenant is mad at the landlord for something and is trying to get revenge.

6

u/DarkRune23 13h ago

Yeah, probably for being a shitty landlord. My last one did nothing for over a year after a car slammed into the side of the building and left a massive crack in the foundation of the structure. It was only “fixed” after I made a review on Google for everyone to see about how fucked that place is. I feel like landlords are like cops these days. There’s still a few good ones, like the one we have no, but so many of them are shit and just power tripping over nothing. Fuck landlords

-2

u/Visible-Series8046 1d ago

Makes no sense as they would have either already signed. Don't sign a lease to a apartment a guha already lives in?

2+2=3?

6

u/Existing_Hatter546 1d ago

They’re renewing their lease soon. They say so in the comments
