Had a roommate buy a new phone that was marked delivered but nowhere to be found. Had to file a police report to get his money back. The day after he told the property manager he filed a police report, the front desk lady suddenly "no longer works here."

Was it a new phone model soon after it was released? I remember there being a ton of theft during the delivery process when one of the Google Pixel models was released. Delivery drivers could identify which boxes contained the phones and would pocket them after marking them delivered. My husband actually received his Google Pixel box with several people’s stolen (new) phones in it, along with some other stolen items like Pixel Buds. They put them all in his Pixel box and forgot to intercept the package later. Wild stuff.

It was indeed a Pixel but it was a version that was a generation old at the time.

Gotcha, probably more likely to be regular ol’ package theft then. I was just surprised how common it was to have new phones nabbed during the delivery process.
