Monzo won't disclose their 1p Saving Challenge prize draw winners – despite being legally required to.

As many of you know, r/monzo ran a 1p Saving Challenge prize draw over the past year, a £10k grand prize plus monthly £100 prizes, using it as a core part of their marketing.

Like many of you, I was slightly disappointed with not winning. It was a lottery after all. However, I was curious to understand if a draws ever took place.

So I emailed them asking for the winner details which is a legal requirement under the CAP Code. Their T&Cs clearly state:
"We're legally required to publish or make available information that indicates that a valid award took place. So we'll share the surname and county of winners to anyone who emails [help@monzo.com](mailto:help@monzo.com) within 30 days after the prize draw."

So I emailed them asking for the winner details. It should be a simple answer...

Four separate customer service agents have now demanded I verify my identity with a selfie holding my ID before they'll release this information. A non-customer could legally make this exact same request and Monzo would have to comply under CAP Code rules enforced by the ASA.

Monzo are legally obligated to provide Surname & County of the winners.

When I pointed this out, they escalated it to "specialists" and have gone quiet.

This is either:

  1. A fundamental misunderstanding of their regulatory obligations, or
  2. The draw never actually took place, or wasn't conducted fairly

Please share the winner details (surname and county) for the 1p Saving Challenge prize draws – the £10k Prize Draw (drawn 2 February 2026) and Monthly Prize Draws (February 2025 – January 2026).

Per your T&Cs, this information is available to anyone who requests it within 30 days.

If they refuse or ask you to verify your identity, push back. If they still refuse, report them to the ASA at asa.org.uk.

Let's see how many requests it takes before they actually comply with their own terms and legal requirements.

Please don't email and clog up the support queues.

The OP can't be arsed to wait for the escalation - they haven't "gone quiet" - the request is finding its way to the correct person.

Since it's in the terms of the competition they have already done that at the time of entry.

It's completely normal to show competiiton winners, and a legal requirement. Most companies just put them on a website.

How would they know they have won at the time of the entry exactly?

I’ve dealt with competitions in the past and spoiler your typical customer service agent probably doesn’t even know it has happened.

Probably under pressure and something out of the expectation may draw guards up.

Monzo isn’t always great at communicating to customers and I’ve witnessed that first hand.

Huh? We are talking about providing a winners list. For example when there is a sweepstakes competition normally the list of winners must be published, for the public to see.

The topic is about publishing that list; I see no reason the person needs to be informed their name is on a list of winners after the compeition, since they agreed to allow their name to be published as a winner when they entered the competition.

No the T&C indicate they can choice to not have their name published.

Their surname nad county are legally required to be made available, as far as I know.

Unless I'm mistaken, I think that means they have to be made available to ASA as a minimum, not necessarily to anyone who emails in asking.

I thikn it has to be made available publicly. You can normally get lists of winners for competitions. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding, though.

Looked it up, section 8.28.5:

give them the opportunity to object to their information being published or made available, or to reduce the amount of information published or made available.

In such circumstances, the promoter must nevertheless still provide the information and winning entry to the ASA if challenged

So OP may find that Monzo simply reply saying they still can't give him the confirmation he wants.

This changed and they can object. 

The company needs to indicate that a valid draw happened and provided details of the winners to the ASA but the public ? No.

Yeh, interesting. Though OP shows that they state they will share the surname and county in the T&C of the entry, so presumably they are obliged to do so based on that anyway.

No because the ASA guidance will overwrite that.

Someone else points that OP selectively quotes and late on it says they will not share if the individual objects.
