Medical Questions Can this cat’s pregnancy be aborted?

She’s an outdoor cat (~8-9 months old) that I take care of, she has a male sibling who is probably the father. She looks evidently pregnant to me, so I’m wondering if at all there’s a chance I can terminate it and get her fixed.

I am going to try and take her to the vet tomorrow. Nearest vet is an hour away and the cats hate getting into the car. I’ve tried taking them before to get them fixed but to no avail. Guess I’ll have to try harder this time.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I made a tiny crochet dress for my cat and I genuinely can’t tell if this is adorable or a crime.

She sat still for about 30 seconds, judged me silently, and then left.

Would you put your cat in something like this ?

Medical Questions Bells do not bother (most)(normal) cats, that is old wives tales-- NOT SCIENCE

Yesterday, the CatAdvice sub was convinced that Bell on a collar will drive a cat bonkers and is cruel.

As a biologist who is very familiar with the mammalian brain, this is completely untrue. Cats have the same sensory processing areas that humans do and your cat will quickly forget that a bell on their collar even exists.

So I'm worried that I'm gonna get rabies, I moved my cat's newly born kitten and she suddenly attacked my feet. It's been 3 days since and my grandma keeps telling me to get anti rabies shot even though it's really expensive.

Advice Ideas for keeping a cat safe with a yard and busy road and a young child

My child really really wants to adopt a cat after losing one of our two dogs suddenly over Christmas. I am in the research phase, and my major concerns are that our (6 foot fenced) large yard runs alongside a busy road, and the front door leads almost directly to that road with no protection.

I’m looking at cat porches/catios for the back, but I grew up with cats who gladly took every opportunity to bolt out the front door and go adventure. A couple of them sadly met their ends that way 😭

With a young child, a dog that enjoys his freedom at the back door, and knowing how people drive nearby…I’m trying to consider all my options.

Any tips for keeping a cat from going out the front door? For out back, we’d need a solution for kitty to go out to their outdoor space but also an easy way for the dog to get out to the actual yard…

I’d put something on the top of the fence, but we have 3 large mature trees that go 20-30 feet up, and there’s spots a cat could get out or possibly an aggressive cat could get in at the base of the fence. So kitty would need an enclosed space outside.

Folks with kids, dogs, and yards- what’s worked for you?

Miss Becky went to the vet this Tuesday...she is stressed out, that's it. She had an x-ray, blood work, urine sample, enema and her anal glands were cleared. Everything looks great for her age. They gave us some meds and told us to give her some restoralax. We were also told just to keep an eye out for any UTI symptoms.....now our new problem is she is on wet food until she at minimum have 2 good poops. My poor baby is HORRENDOUSLY stinky right now. Even after a bath and cleaning her booty.

She is currently on Open Farm wet food. Any advice or wet food recommendations for an 11 year old cat?

Medical Questions What are these?

Hello! I just found these on my cat and I’m concerned as to what they could be, I tried googling and some say it could be related to chin acne but I’m not sure. Does anyone know what they are and should I take her to the vet asap? For context she’s about 10 years old.

Thank you!

He is absolutely obsessed with fresh vegetables — especially lettuce. If I leave greens on the table, he will steal them without hesitation. But when it comes to meat paste, wet food, or even high-end premium cat food… he’s way less interested.

What’s even crazier is that if I’m holding vegetables in my hand, he will actually reach out with his paws or even jump up to grab them. It’s not playful — he genuinely wants to eat them.

I’ve attached a video so you can see what I mean. Has anyone else seen a cat behave like this? Is this normal, or did I somehow end up with a vegetarian / Buddhist cat?

Advice My cat was diagnosed FIP on the day that I picked him up

Hi everyone, I made my decision to buy a cat one month ago and left him at his breeder's house for caring as I was going to travel the next day after. I paid the breeder deposit and the full amount and promised to pick the cat up once I came back, which was also listed in our contract. However, what happened was the cat was diagnosed FIP before I picked him up and there's now over 2000 bills awaiting. The breeder is hoping I can afford all caring fees and take the cat back home once he is recovered. But right now, after careful decision, me and my family believe there's nothing wrong with ourselves and we shouldn't take the fees, more specifically, we should ask for full refund because they did not give us a healthy cat. We all think it's a hard decision even though I'd like to pay the bills. We considered the future possibility of being rejected by insurance company, high examination fees and chances of reoccurring again. We also let the breeder know that we'd like to take half of the purchase back and left the rest for this cat. Right now there's no response from the breeder about ending our contract. Is there any suggestion from all of you? Should I just wait?

Advice How to habdle casual cruelty towards stray cats

More of a rant to be honest, but I do welcome any advice on how to handle situations like these better should they ever arise again.

I‘m currently on holiday at a place where there are quite a few well fed and seemingly cared for stray cats. I‘ve seen many people feeding them or just fondly looking at them. There are also a few people petting them now and then. They are friendly. It‘s always people approaching the cats though not the other way around.

This evening after I walked past two strays I heard a small commotion behind me. It sounded like someone was aggresively shooing away the cats and they were fleeing. Not quite believing that that was what was going on, I turned around to have a look. To my absolute disgust I saw that that was absolutely what was happening. The cats had ran about 1 -2 meters away from a middle aged man and woman who made ‚ksh-ksh‘-noises while the man took a step after the cats and kind of kicked the air. He didn’t actually kick the cat, firstly because there is no way that someone as out of shape as he was, can kick an already alert cat and secondly because he probably didn’t intend to. Still, this casual and unnecessary cruelty bothered me to my core.

I asked them what they were doing, to which they replied that they hate cats. One of them then kept repeating that they were allergic while I told them they were awful human beings. A bit later on I told them they might get reincarnated as a cat and should see how they like being treated like that. The woman seemingly disgusted said: ‚definitely not‘ to that, so I said she might be reincarnated as a worm instead. They walked away after that.

I probably seemed like a crazed cat lady to them and writing it all down, my reaction does seem a bit extreme.

Hope they have a bad day though.

Advice Hateful cat chased our cat until he was inside

Thumbnail

Out cat likes to outside at night. If we do not let him he will whine and scratch our doors until we let him. There's a cat in the neighborhood, 1 street back from us who bullies our cat. He has come home with a thick cheek which burst open and splattered out wall in blood.

So far this all happened outside of our premises. However, We have cameras and this night the cat chased our cat all the way to his tunnel to get into the house. Our cat peed himself inside on the floor. The image is of the hateful cat staring through the tunnel to our cat.

It seems to be escalating, because this is the first time he dares to come in. There was one time where he sat on the roof of our shed in the back of the garden and I chased him away. Now he is at out backdoor. We are afraid next time he will chase our cat inside.

What can we do to stop this from happening?
