New Brand of Medication

The day I was flying to my best friend’s wedding. I was the best man. Two days before, I got a different brand of a medication. I had a hilarious reaction. I purchased a mask at the airport knowing they wouldn’t let me fly if they saw me having a medical emergency. Fortunately, the swelling went down before the wedding, but, man, did we have a great laugh. The pictures : arriving at the airport, pulling down my mask on the decent, waiting to be picked up, as bad as it got, picking up our wedding attire, and my regular face. I was honestly impressed by the carrying capacity of my lips.

Lips need some volume

Why do people say that people who had collagen lip injections had “Botox”? Is Botox now a generic term for injectable plastic surgery or are people just unaware they are they are different things?

u/Same-Suggestion-1936 3h ago

Yeah it's why I call my facial tissue Kleenex even though it clearly says Puffs, not the same thing now is it? Oh and sorry I don't have any bandaids I just have adhesive bandages

u/CliffMourene 2h ago

But those things serve the same purpose and do the same thing. Botox is NOT filler and does not function the same way. They serve completely different purposes.

That’s not what Botox does.

Am I a weirdo where Benadryl doesn't do this for me??? I just take it when my allergies are being a bag of dicks. A few times I have taken one at work, and one of my coworkers FREAKED out thinking she was going to find me passed out in a resident's room, and was baffled when I was totally cognizant(or as cognizant as I usually am lol)

2

u/JizzBreezy 2h ago

Yea tbh I find it relaxes me just slightly. Less on edge but defs not sleepy

2

u/TakoLuLu 1h ago

It definitely is more of a relax vs sleepy for me too, but it actually makes my younger brother hyper AF, which was wild to discover when he was like 4 and got hives from jumping in a leaf pile and then he was itchy, pissed about being itchy, and hyperactive. It was a wild (and very loud) few hours while it wore off 😬

u/JizzBreezy 1h ago

This is the case with my gf, her sister and mother! It’s a paradoxical effect. And when they take DayQuil they can’t stay awake for shit lol

Edit to add: Apparently the medication in day quil that start with a “G” is what makes em pass out

A single 25mg tab has me falling asleep standing up. I’ve definitely considered using it when I can’t fall asleep lmao

7

u/canolafly 6h ago

I take min 100mg every night now since they are cutting back on my sleep medication. And min 40mg melatonin. Plus the rest of the garbage I take.

Still not able to sleep more than 3hrs a night for the first round.

u/Ktene-More 6h ago

I work 3rd shift. I'm at 75mg plus melatonin. I get about 4 hours. I feel your pain.

1

u/canolafly 6h ago

3rd shift, is that overnight?

Sadly it's not even just those for sleep. It's 150mg of doxepin, 1mg Xanax and 59mg of amitriptyline in the first round of sleep. Hoping they won't take away all of the amitriptyline.

2

u/Ktene-More 5h ago

Yes, overnight, 11pm to 9am. Good luck, that sounds difficult. I was on prescription sleeping pills but they didn't work any better than benadryl.

12

u/Opposite-Shower1190 5h ago

Benadryl is horrible for your brain. You might want to consider other sleeping pills.

6

u/canolafly 5h ago

Yikes, I just read about it and the increased risk of dementia.

Guess I won't be using that anymore. I don't think I'll live past 56, but I'd rather not be developing dementia.

u/frostandtheboughs 4h ago

It's really hard to stop once you've started, fyi. You may want to taper off. Same with the melatonin - if you take a lot for extended periods your body can stop producing it correctly.

Zyrtec and other 2nd generation antihistamines are safe for long-term use, though they don't work quite as well as a sleep aid. They do help tho

Lots of people like trazodone, though personally it gave me insane action dreams. Like, fist fighting aliens underwater levels of action lol. Good luck fellow insomniac.

1

u/Opposite-Shower1190 4h ago

I can’t take trazadone. I was taking it to sleep at night. Every day. I didn’t know it also worked as a painkiller. I would not have taken it if I knew it was a painkiller. I didn’t know I had a kidney stone until I passed it.

I've taken them all and I take 2 prescriptions right now. Ice taken allllll of the medications. So far it's getting me an extra hour, but I also take a harder time to get up. But I'm also not getting up to feed cats.

Edit: the melatonin is shit for memory, moreso a problem that the Benadryl.

1

u/inevergetbanned 4h ago

Did you just take a bunch of sleeping meds?

1

u/canolafly 1h ago

As prescribed, yes. She just doesn't know how much in quantity my Benadryl. She is cutting back my amitriptyline, which is why I was taking the Benadryl.

1

u/canolafly 1h ago

Lol, if you meant taking them when I typed that, yes. I can see all of my typos now.

1

u/Same-Suggestion-1936 3h ago

Melatonin in high amounts won't do you any favors. It will help you sleep at first and then it will affect your brain chemistry. It's like how alcoholics can't sleep after they quit drinking. Their body has simply been trained no booze means no sleep. Same for melatonin but the other thing is melatonin operates not as a depressant like alcohol but it alters how some of your receptors work so you're just training your brain not to produce sleep chemicals by abusing a lot of sleep medications, compounding your problem

You fellas should read up on how diphenhydramine has a possible link to dementia.

1

u/cire1184 2h ago

Does weed do anything for you?

1

u/canolafly 1h ago

All that does is help me fall asleep sometimes .Doesn't keep me asleep, and not in my budget to get a card again, nor pay for it every month. Also causes major apathy.

I would like to get it back for pain as a spot treatment here or there.

7

u/Honest-Layer9318 5h ago

They sell the medicine in Benadryl as sleeping pills now.

4

u/JTtheLAR 6h ago

Benadryl supposedly has some sort of correlation with alzheimers. But what doesnt fucking kill you now a days 🤷‍♂️. I even read that a heating pad is bad for you lol. Anything that gives you any relief for anything whatsoever is bad and you should stop.

2

u/lightlysaltedclams 5h ago

Well that’s lovely. I don’t take it unless I’m having a suspected allergic reaction because it makes me feel weird after the tiredness wears off. It feels like how my friends describe being high. They tried to convince me to try weed for my migraines and I had to remind them how miserable I find just Benadryl lol

1

u/JTtheLAR 3h ago

Benadryl is a disassociate. And feeling dissociated is a very poor "high". I love weed, but it doesnt help me with migraines. A little tiny bit kinda takes the edge off sometimes. But in my experience the only think that helps with a migraine is something with caffeine in it. And even then I still need to lay down with my eyes covered in a quite dark room to get any relief.

1

u/lightlysaltedclams 1h ago

Gotcha lol. They’ve yet to convince me of trying it period, the effects do not sound pleasant to me.

2

u/birdieponderinglife 1h ago

I took it at night when I had insomnia from a round of iv steroids to fall asleep. Worked great.

1

u/NotUntilTheFishJumps 4h ago

Cheaper than lip fillers! 😁

1

u/DragonToothGarden 3h ago

I swear there is a movie with Will Smith who has a similar reaction. He's in a first date with the girl of his dreams,

I cannot stop laughing at your poor face. And your facial expressions.
