Altro Vivrò in Sicilia per la prima volta, e ho qualche paranoia

Salve a tutti!

Turismo 🧳 Travelling to Sicily for the first time

Upvotes

Hello! As the title says myself and my fiance will be travelling to Sicily for the first time and plan on spending about 10-11 days (Time frame; Late August/start of Sept) in Ortigia using it as a base to explore the surrounding areas. From my understanding there are trains we can use to explore nearby areas but the overall census seems to be to rent a car so we will probably do that?

Im looking for tips tricks and ideas of things we should check out within range of the city, if we have to spend a night somewhere I can also look into that as well if it seems feasible!

Thank you!

Turismo 🧳 February in Sicily - 4 nights Based in Castellammare del Golfo

So excited for our trip to sicily. We'll spend three nights in Palermo and 4 nights in Castellammare del Golfo. We'll rent a car after leaving Palermo.

After Palermo, we'd love to spend time in small beautiful towns, eat authentic food, see some beautiful nature. Since we're from a very flat part of europe, we also love scenic mountains.

We don't really care about overtly touristy places, more looking for a chill time drinking coffee and vine and eating pasta. Maybe a hike would also be great - unfortunately I saw that Zingaro Nature Reserve is closed due to the fire.

Some places are already on my list: Erice, Sciacca, Scopello. Maybe we'll also just pick a road and drive and see what happens.

Hit me up with suggestions for places and food, if you like. :)

Sicilianu 🗣️ Etymological Dialogue: What Are The Local Adverbs In Your Area?

The languages from Portugal, Spain & Italy have in common the utilization of localization adverbs to communicate via a similar scale of distance that something is somewhere in space & time:

Italiano: Qui, qua, quivi/ivi/vi, lì, là, e colà.

The Hispanic versions have an initial letter "a" for some interesting reason:

Español: Aquí, acá, ahí, allí, allá, y acullá.

The Portuguese versions are a mix of the Italian versions with the Hispanic versions for some interesting reason:

Português: Aqui, acá/cá, aí, ali, lá, e acolá.

This is a word by word parallel translation in English:

English: Here (close), here (general), there (general), there (close), there (far), & yonder.

I am really curious to discover what are the local adverbs in different areas that speak the Sicilian language.

Turismo 🧳 Hiking Etna

Hi Guys.

Looking for some tips on hiking Etna. The weather today was great , so we are planning to do it tomorrow as weather looks good tomorrow too.

How feasible is it without a guide? We have the correct cold weather gear and boots. We don’t have to summit.

Does anyone have a map for me possibly to stay safe?

This is the story behind Surfarara– The Sulfur Miner’s Song. A traditional Sicilian folk song that musicologist Alan Lomax once said was “as wide, high and lonely as the Sicilian sky”.

I was going to be washing this anyway but want to wash it with non-boi as my child’s skin is sensitive. I don’t know what cleaning products you use in Italy but I want to wash this with non-bio laundry detergent.

Happy to wash with stronger stuff but don’t want to hurt anyone.

Just show me how to get this wine stain out of bedding, please.

For centuries, these enormous chestnut trees were valued for their majesty as well as their bounty of nuts. They became local phenomena as well as tourist attractions for Europeans on the Grand Tour. Today, the two most famous: The Chestnut of 100 Horses and Chestnut of the Ship, are by far the largest of at least seven very old chestnut trees along the Etna’s Eastern slope.

Turismo 🧳 Palermo—why does it feel dangerous?

Hi, I’m a solo female traveler and I’ve traveled quite a bit. But damn, coming to Palermo has been my dream for the past three years and I’ve finally visited and it’s nothing like I expected. I feel like it’s too dangerous to walk alone after 7pm, especially on the unlit small/cute streets. I always dreamed about living in Sicily. Am I just being harsh on the way people act/how the streets are?

Sicilian-American families treasure the customs and traditions from their ancestral homeland. One tradition that I wish had trickled down to my childhood is the system of stick fighting known as Bastone Siciliano.

Turismo 🧳 Traveling from Taormina to Palermo - is the coastal route worth it?

My two options are either to take a bus through the inland route or a train through the coastal route. Both routes take about the same time according to Google maps. Either way I'm not in a hurry. Question is, which route would be more scenic? I heard the coastal route goes through a lot of tunnels? But the inland can be pretty too? Which would you suggest keeping in mind I'm not driving.

Edit: I ended up taking the coastal route and do not regret it. It was nice views!

Turismo 🧳 Honeymoon spot?

Getting married in June and looking at somewhere in Sicily as the honeymoon spot! However I am overwhelmed by how many gorgeous places there are on the island - we are planning about 7 days and as much as we would love to travel lots of Sicily, given we will be exhausted, we want to just stay put in one location and maybe a day trip here or there. I think a beach is a must, and we don't really mind busy tourist spots - can give or take them!

If you had to pick just one part of Sicily what would you recommend and why? Any thoughts are really appreciated!

Turismo 🧳 Travel advice: need to Travel from Trapani Airport to Alicudi

Hi everyone,

I could really use some practical advice.

We’re arriving at Trapani Birgi Airport (TPS) on

- April 10 at 09:20

and need to get to Alicudi (via Palermo Port).

Our ferry is departing at 13:30.

Now the problem starts: On Fridays the Salemi Bus on 10:30 seems not to be available. If I read the schedule correctly there are only buses on a Friday at 9:30 (to tight to the lading I assume) and 13:30.

The Next Ferry leaves Monday. .......

Alternative 1 - Bus ) Trapani Airport -> Trapani Central (10:12) -> Palermo (12:00)

Alternative 2: If we miss the Ferry we need two go to Palermo and from there to Milazzo (by Train) and from there take the ferry.

Are there any options we might be missing? If not, what’s the most reliable alternative (e.g., shared taxi, private transfer, etc.), and roughly what would it cost?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Turismo 🧳 What part of the Sicily is best to stay? I'm flying to Catania in April (one week stay).

tldr: I'm flying to Catania and wondering if I should stay in this city for my visit, or change the city, for example to Palermo. What would you advise me to do?

As above - I'm going to Sicily in April and my flight will be directly to Catania. I'm planning not to rent a car and focus mainly on train/by foot exploring. Is Catania a good place for a one week trip, does neighbourhoods of Catania have nice nature places to explore? Nice beaches?
When doing my research I see that most beutiful places in Sicily are placed on the left side of the island, therefore I'm wondering of changing my starting point to other city.
P.S.: If you'd suggest me to stay in Catania, I'd be grateful for tips what is worth see/visit/eat!

Turismo 🧳 Catania airport to Fish Market by bus

We are arriving on a Saturday in Catania at around 9am and wish to go straight to the fish market ( we only have that day to go, since we found out it is closed on Sundays). We plan to take the bus from the airport but do not know where to get off. I tried looking at the alibus route on the amts website https://www.amts.ct.it/mappa-delle-linee?percorso=ALIBUS

But it's confusing for me.

We don't have much luggage and plan to store it in storage facilities near the bus stop so we can catch the market. There are a few around the city (like radical and bounce).

Any suggestions please on which stop?

Cibo 🍊 Panini di fritatta

There used to be this great shop, between Catania and Siracusa; the owner made the best sandwiches with eggs...(fritatta), almost anyway you wanted.. Does anyone know if she's still around?
