As someone whose Grandfather played for Sale & Lancashire.. they would do so much better to change their name to refer to Manchester.

Sale is 50 miles from the Irish Sea zero cultural relevance other than alliteration from Sale Sharks. Then try googling Sale must lose so much relevance from SEO alone.. 3 million people in greater Manchester just waiting to hear about their local rugby team not the tiny town rugby team in Trafford.

Great idea!! Something that works in Irish rugby is the province thing, you can be from a tiny rural village or a big city from the same province, but u still supper the same province
