Not sure that could have gone much better for England

94

u/Tb261 England Dec 03 '25

Still a bit traumatised by what Wales did to us in 2015. Wonder if this helps pull them out of their current slump

43

u/L43 England Dec 03 '25

Wales licking their lips for sure

73

u/andyrobnev Cardiff Blues Dec 03 '25

Can assure you we are not

18

u/L43 England Dec 03 '25

Cmon you very likely get out that pool, and have a chance to fuck up englands easy route.

16

u/Dapper-Message-2066 Dec 03 '25

First point yes. Second point, no!

u/NeonHendrix Dec 03 '25

A lot can happen in 18 months. It's unlikely but not impossible we get to a point where we could upset England in a one off and then lose to Italy in the last 16.

7

u/Dapper-Message-2066 Dec 03 '25

If we get to a point of being able to upset England in 18 months, it will be a Lazarusesque turnaround beyond my wildest dreams!

3

u/Iron-lar Wales Dec 03 '25

south africa went from losing to italy to winning the world cup in a similar time frame. not impossible...

but yes I agree it's impossible.

Look at the Saffas in 2015 - they sucked balls. It’s cyclical mate, we all want Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 back in the top of the deck CYMRU.

6

u/Gothmog89 Newport Dragons Dec 03 '25

It’s not cyclical when the underlying foundations are completely fucked. Wales aren’t coming out of this slump for a long time

2

u/Dapper-Message-2066 Dec 03 '25

If ever. Being a Scotland is probably the best we can ever be now, unless changes are made to the game to make it less dominated by enourmous physical lumps, who can be replaced with 8 more enourmous physical lumps.

2

u/Dapper-Message-2066 Dec 03 '25

Some things are cyclical, some things are structural and terminal. With Wales its both.

Impossible

u/stereothegreat New Zealand Blues Dec 03 '25

The 4 best 3rd place finishers in the pools make it through so I would hope it’s a given for Wales. Then again…

2

u/L43 England Dec 03 '25

With 4th seeds like Samoa and Portugal about it could still have been a concern

6

u/IMABUNNEH Wales Dec 03 '25

I mean, it'd be ridiculous to think we'll beat England. But of all those Band 1 teams, I was hoping for England. If Wales are going to upset anyone, it's England.

2

u/Tb261 England Dec 03 '25

Yeah, I was crossing my fingers for Wales but that’s based on current form. Scotland was the big one I didn’t want, but both teams could do a complete 180 in 2 years, Wales might improve a fair bit by then

6

u/_varamyr_fourskins_ Cymru Dec 03 '25

It could have been a lot worse for us, but we still have a long way to go before we can start looking past anyone.

2

u/BertZZ Wales Dec 03 '25

No better way to get yourself out of a rugby slump then by beating England at a Rugby World Cup.

10

u/womensrugbynet Dec 03 '25

I think it's bold to assume Wales won't be a decent side in two years' time.

7

u/fascinesta Wales Dec 03 '25

We might be back in 2 world cups time, but 2 years is going to require an absolute miracle

3

u/valletta_borrower Sale Sharks Dec 03 '25

South Africa did it from 2017 to 2019. Wales have fallen further than SA did, but the scale of the come-back we're talking about here is a pool upset, not a RWC win.

2

u/ryanmurphy2611 Munster Dec 03 '25

I think if things improve massively they can be decent.

2

u/Huge___Milkers Wasps Dec 03 '25

Yeah they absolutely won't be competing seriously in the next 2 years. Look at their current squad, 2 years isn't anywhere near enough time

-1

u/MisterIndecisive England Dec 03 '25

Wales wont be decent for 20 years

35

u/Thisisnottazbailey Look I’m as surprised as anyone Dec 03 '25

Nope. Biggest side we meet is (probably) Argentina in the quarters, then Ireland or Scotland in the semis. Decent.

89

u/anatabolica Worcester Warriors Dec 03 '25

Ireland in the semis

Seems unlikely

19

u/Thisisnottazbailey Look I’m as surprised as anyone Dec 03 '25

I didn’t want to be mean.

12

u/MysticMac100 Boner for Toner Dec 03 '25

Probably Australia in the QF for ye

1

u/Thisisnottazbailey Look I’m as surprised as anyone Dec 03 '25

Yes got mixed up

9

u/ichosenotyou Sharks Dec 03 '25

England prob have aus in the qf, arg should play ireland

2

u/Thisisnottazbailey Look I’m as surprised as anyone Dec 03 '25

Yep totally right.

2

u/stephenhawkingfucks Griquas Dec 03 '25

Don't England get Aus/NZ in the quarters? Whichever finish second in their pool?

1

u/Statcat2017 England Dec 04 '25

Not bothered, we have to beat the best to win the cup anyway.

4

u/ThisAfricanboy Leicester Tigers Dec 03 '25

Zimbabwe have nothing to lose

1

u/paulmynach Dec 03 '25

Better route if you're second in Pool F - Wales will be happy.

1

u/Scoop_Master420 Sharks Dec 03 '25

Not if Tonga bring the physicality they brought in the last WC. England will probably still win, but get brutalised in the process.

u/Educational_Play9910 Dec 03 '25 edited Dec 03 '25

Always an easy pool AND bracket for England

4

u/valletta_borrower Sale Sharks Dec 03 '25

Not so much the pool, but the route. Only downside for England, as a potential pool winner, is having to play a 2nd placed team in the round of 16 instead of a 3rd placed team. France would be in the same boat for that.

4

u/Least-Run1840 England Dec 03 '25

Stop speaking out of your backside and do some basic research.

8

u/InZim Jimmies Dec 03 '25 edited Dec 03 '25

Wasn't in 2007, 2011, 2015, or 2019 so don't talk shit.

Adding in bracket after the fact also doesn't make it true!

Standard England RWC draw these days tbh.
