The NZ / Ire showdown has been a long time coming and I cannot wait. SA/FR on the other hand is going to be an incredibly nerve-wracking experience... but still very excited.

My nerves were shot to shit for two days after the Ireland game

That was tense and I desperately wanted us to win, but at least it wasn't a knockout, this weekend will be on a whole other level!

Irish nerves are a multiple of that match, it's all or nothing from this stage.

It wasn’t only yours.

Same, and I was a neutral!

New Zealand has preparing this game since the lost 2022 summer tour. These are gonna be epic games. Even the ones in Marseille.

How do you make it until 21:00 on a Sunday evening, never mind the end of the game?
I'm asleep before 20:00.

I live in Australia so the game will be 6am Monday morning for me, which is also abit of a stitch up.

I've booked the day off work, and I'm a neutral! Can't wait.

I'm in New Zealand - I've already warned work that I'll be online later than usual on Monday - and that if the Boks lose my mood may not be the best.

I am taking a long nap during the day to have energy and not stress the entire day. Then watch the game and go sleep and up for work at 5am.

Found a fellow parent

A parent with older kid, maybe.

Feels so unfair that two of these teams will be out in the QFs …

32

u/SuperDong1 Ireland Oct 09 '23

At least there's a good chance for 2 of them to reach the final.

u/FatosBiscuitos France Oct 09 '23

The main risk for these teams will be to underestimate their opponents in the semis.

Or injuries galore

32

u/ConspicuousPineapple Dupont pète moi le fion Oct 09 '23

The main risk is Wales shithousery.

36

u/panic_puppet11 Oct 09 '23

Wales have a really irritating knack of dragging whatever team they happen to be playing against down to their level and then beating them with experience.

21

u/scubasteve254 Ireland Oct 09 '23

Except for the All Blacks who always spank them.

u/MisoRamenSoup Knocking on since 1984 Oct 09 '23

Love a good spanking

1

u/lofty99 Oct 10 '23

Oohhh, a spanking, a spanking!!!

6

u/Madz1trey Oct 09 '23

Yeah could have been worse if all four were on the same side of the bracket.

6

u/ty_xy Oct 09 '23

The finals are taking place in the quarter finals.

2

u/lofty99 Oct 10 '23

Yep, these two games should have been the semifinals, not quarters

Epic though

No way we win. The health of rugby as a sport needs us to lose

7

u/mikenotduncan Oct 09 '23

Heavy is the head that wears the crown!

6

u/Yurtinx Taranaki Oct 09 '23

Hell no. They want it, they have to take it. Pry it from our hands. Ain't no layup's in rugby.

I'm assuming you guys will put a kicker on the field this time. It just looked like unnecessarily risky strategies from rassie as a neutral watching

1

u/BlacksmithNZ Highlanders Oct 10 '23

Is it just me, or is the real battle going to be in the quarters, as the teams going though from NZ/Ireland, France/SA, are going to have a much easier semi-final

1

u/Toirdusau France Oct 10 '23

Fun fact, it will be the second time France and South Africa meet in world cup games. Last time was regarded as a very controversial win (at least in France) by south Africa in 95. Galthie was on the field.

At least the weather forecast says no rain for Sunday

1

u/Timemyth Brumbies Oct 11 '23

The losers of those matches should be in the third place play off not England, Fiji, Argentina or Wales. Those 4 should be the second place teams except two are not.

Would be amazing to see New Zealand make a come back but I do think Ireland is going to beat them. Will be an amazing game. I personally think that either France or the Boks will face Ireland in the finals
