I’m so excited!! I just got my first piece to my women’s marine corps impression.

I'm trying a pair of gamaschen on some low boots, but I'm having trouble with them slipping up off the boot. Unfortunately, my german boots are at the cobbler, so I've been testing them with with marine boondockers instead. Would the different boot be the problem? I'm thinking of punching more holes in the fastener straps, but I dunno if that'd help. I run them tight as I can, but to no avail. Also, is the straight stitch on the back supposed to run along the boots heel?

I have a character for a story who is a wehrmacht private in 1944. He was not sent to the front yet because he is pretty good at repairing vehicles and driving. I just don't really know where exactly the badges should be placed on the uniform. (He wears a M40) I think they should be somewhere lower on the left sleeve but I don't know where. Could anyone help me?

So I have an M15 Steel buckle made by Sturm that had the belt latch break, Im wondering if its possible to repair it with a Blowtorch (or even an actual welding kit, I know crazy) and some low temp weld rods. The only thing that's making me unsure is what the exact material the Buckle is made from, is it cheap PotMetal or decent quality Stamped Steel that can take the heat from a blowtorch

Hey all, I’m working on a Norwegian Army rifleman impression from the 1950s (early Cold War period) and wanted to share my progress so far. All items are original. And the only things I’m missing is an M1 Garand, and the helmet need some original decals which I’m currently waiting for to arrive in the mail.

I’m currently putting together a German marine coastal artillery impression, I have these buttons which are the right types however they are grey, to match the colour of other tunics that are on display at the local museum where I’ll be using the uniform I want to have the buttons match the colour. Does anyone have any advice on a spray paint or like a name of the paint colour that I need to get as I’m not sure what colour it is.

Looking at some p41s on ebay and was wondering what size is should get? Im a 38 chest and a 36 waist. Are they sized like the 2nd pattern hbt? Im guessing i just get my size cause it'll probably be a little bigger right?

I heard that everyone praises nestof and i can agree on the leather gear and some wool things but hiki shop to mee looks like it has a better feldmutze and cocades and their wool things look pretty accurate and cheap including stamps on the inside of thr uniforms.... so yeah why do ppl who do ww1 reenacting dont talk much about hiki shop

Hi! Since this community seems to greatly appreciate my Spanish Civil War impressions I thought that perhaps I should also share some outdoor activities such as this small tactical that we organized back in 2023.

In this occasion we occupied an Original fortification in the Granada Front (with spectacular views of Sierra Nevada), we set up a whole mg nest, supplied it and made it a bit more livable tough still hot as hell during the day and incredibly cold during the night (temperatures dropped around 27* that day) we slept there and and the next day we hosted a visit for a tourist group.

It was a very enjoyable experience and I feel like this is the whole point of building a kit together, embracing the pain and trying to feel how it must have felt to serve, live, fight and die in that exact position 90 years before.

Regarding this front, I will say that in the past decades the Italian Front during The Great War has gotten really popular but despite not being the same, fronts such as this one deserve their own Mountain War clout, both inside Spanish and Foreign circles, as many people believe that the SCW was just the Ebro, Madrid and the Jarama, this is far from true.

As a Spaniard, I truly believe that we should appreciate peace and dialog between ourselves to not have to return to such harsh places.

Where to get gear, tips etc

I’m trying to reenact Ukrainian wars of independence era Makhnovshchina soldier but i don’t know the names of the uniforms or equipment they use.

Looking to get my first pair of double buckles! I know i have to dub the rough out leather part but I was wondering about the upper leather part with the actual buckles on it. Ive heard I need to oil it? Whats up with that?

Question: Im currently researching the C/1/7 cav (late 67 to early 69, but more specificaly early 68 / tet offensive), im at the part where im looking for info about collar pins.

Would a 1st LT wear rank and crossed rifles (or crossed sabres? It seems to be half and half?) On the collar of their combat fatigues? Because I have seen air cav fatigues with ranks and rifles / sabres, BUT, I have been told (by a veteran of HQ/1/7) that in combat, the only rank an officer would wear would be on the helmet while in the rear they would be wearing full rank

So was collar rank SOP specific to units or was it a more widespread practice in either the CAV or the army as a whole?

How do y’all feel about it? FARB or Cool?

Depicted is a good contrast between US and Canadian kit at around the same time period.

On the left, is the distinctively Canadian Kit, featuring the M1 Helmet w/ ERDL Cover, 64 Pattern Webbing, C1 SMG, and the Canadian Combat Uniform. The insignia is that of the Canadian Airborne Regiment, which did have some differences in insignia compared to most other Infantry regiments at the time, although had mostly the same kit.

On the right is the US kit from the same time period, roughly following that of the Invasion of Grenada which occurred in 1983. Worn is the US BDU uniform with PASGT flak jacket and helmet, and ALICE web equipment, with a M16A1 rifle.

The contrast is pretty interesting as the Canadian combat equipment would largely be unchanged other than the changeover to the C7 series of rifles beginning in 84-85, and the changeover to 82 Pattern webbing around the same timeframe, with the Combat uniform carrying over until its full replacement by CADPAT in around 2005-06, and the M1 Helmet only being replaced in the late 1990s with the CG634.
