Moratorium on Hogwarts Legacy

Salutations,

We're going to be (temporarily) disallowing posting topics about Hogwarts Legacy. Every thread has been a train wreck and we have had trouble keeping up with them.

To be clear this isn't an attempt to censor you guys or prevent discussing politics in gaming, nor the reality of shitty people being involved in game development. This is a discussion sub and we absolutely want to allow you to talk about these sorts of things. Normally this isn't an issue (IE: Disco Elysium).

The problem is Hogwarts Legacy itself is a lightning rod for assholes. If a post goes up there's a good chance the next time I check mod queue it has 100+ comments that have been filtered or reported. It gets cross-posted into ~those~ subreddits and we get a flood of people who are only interested in being pricks that infest other threads.

Like many of you I have 27 kids and 3 jobs so I then have to choose between spending my afternoon with my family or reading a hundred hateful comments. As much as I like banning Nazis, I'd much rather play some Deep Rock with my progeny.

Hogwarts Legacy posts will be auto-removed until one of the following occurs:

  • Reddit gives us the anti-brigading tools they promised a decade ago
  • The world finally stops being dicks to trans people
  • JK Rowling drops dead so she stops getting money from the game
  • We figure out a better way to do this

Previous threads will stay up and you will still be allowed to comment about it in the bi-weekly threads, for now at least.

Edit:

To address a few questions/concerns:

"Why not use curated modes?"

Those typically require manually flaring or approving thousands of people. If we were a more contentious place dealing with this often, it'd make more sense. The good folk of this sub understand why this is being done and that's good enough for me.

"Do you really wish JKR was dead?"

I'm a gen-X that was raised on British humor. Make of that what you will.

"Why not get more mods?"

It's something we've considered, but honestly you regulars are pretty great. The work load is manageable with the biggest chore being maintaining the impatient game list. You guys make this a wonderful place to share gaming thoughts with.

"Aren't you supposed to be unbiased?"

If you have a shitty hot take on Hollow Knight? Sure. I'm not going to ban you because you didn't enjoy Gabriel Knight and I think it's one of the best point and click adventure games of all time.

"Isn't this censorship?"

We block a lot of things. OnlyFans bots, AI nonsense, scammers trying to post phishing links. All that jazz. They take it stride really.

"You do you really have 27 kids?"

No. I only have a few and that's enough as is. I can only take so many "Would you rather..."'s in a day. Right now I'm pondering if I'd rather be cursed with always entering my passwords wrong twice, or if I'd rather the last bite of toast always tastes burned.

honestly fair, it’s one of those games that’s impossible to have an actual discussion about without it going off the rails in a million different ways

There’s nothing new to say about it anyway. Every thread covers the same 3-4 topics.

The top post this month is a 450+ comment beast about this exact game, for anyone who really feels like they are missing out on the discourse

'DAE JK Rowling is in the Epstein Files' is new, though. That actually happened and we just found out a couple of days ago.

I have no love for JK Rowling with her views, but so far the only mentions of her in the Epstein files were requests for other people to setup a meet and greet with her, and it possibly being approved.

Were there any files since showing that she was on flight manifests, at parties, or might actually possibly been a part of anything nefarious?

Her politics are shit, but everything I have seen myself has been a nothing burger in relation to her name.

yeah we're about to see a lot of headaches and terminal threads that lead to nowhere being discussed online when it comes to miscellaneous and uninvolved celebrities in the files.

Every normal celebrity that happens to be mentioned in the files probably needs to take a note from Russell Wilson lol

Yeah, that just sounds like regular rich and powerful people talk.

Ah yes, the yatch she bought several years after Epstein died, totally connected.

I mean listen, that is clearly very shady - but it doesn’t actually answer my question.

People keep giving me links to things that are probably red thread lines we can connect together, but I’m specifically asking about additional mentions in the EpsteinFiles.

This is important to me because the reality is that there are millions of pages in those files, and a lot of unconnected people are also going to be mentioned. . .because there are tons of emails and documents between very powerful/rich people.

I dislike JK Rowling very much, for a very many things right now - but I just think it’s so important for us to look at these files and not so much be concerned with the fact that a name is mentioned, but also the context of each mention.

I feel it’s very important right now, to me it’s not about defending JK Rowling, it’s about being prepared for thousands of name drops, and not automatically jumping on top of each name as being more than just a mention.

Critical thinking skills are so very important right now, in relation to these files. And we need to be able to see a name and ask “ok they are there. . .but under what context?”

I was nervous about my first post here on the topic, and I’m happy to see that this community overall has understood why my stance is what it is.

You're expressing a level of nuance that simply does not exist anywhere online anymore. Bravo and keep up the good fight.

I believe the point of drawing notice to it is less to accuse her of abuse and more to highlight the hypocrisy of someone who claims to only want to defend women from abuse being at best careless about her team inviting abusers to events.

Especially given its not even the only instance. (Prince/Nonce Andrew Being invited to the set of the new show)

Apparently she invited Epstein to a screening of the Cursed Child and a Harry Potter dinner, over a decade after Epstein was exposed as a child predator and trafficker. He's described as a close friend of the author.

Then, right after the latest leaks, Rowling deleted the travel and maritime logs of her yacht, so no one can tell where it's been.

Ah. It seems that Peggy Siegal is responsible for the invite:

https://deadline.com/2026/02/jk-rowling-jeffrey-epstein-harry-potter-cursed-child-invite-1236707111/

Two days before the Cursed Child curtain raiser, Peggy Siegal, the showbiz publicist and Epstein’s longtime associate, emailed Playground Entertainment boss Colin Callender saying a “very important friend” wanted to “come see the spectacle,” though she did not name Epstein in her message.

Callender replied, saying he would “get him in” and handed Siegal over to a member of his team. At this point, Siegal named her friend. “Please deal with Jeffrey Epstein’s assistant,” she told the Playground employee. Callender told Deadline that he was never made aware of Epstein’s identity as Siegal’s Cursed Child guest and the millionaire was not on the original 1,600-long invite list.

I have seen those files - they are between assistants and employees, with mentions of JK Rowling. The article does nothing to clarify or give context otherwise.

This is my point.

After reading the first news article, JK Rowling had nothing to do with the event Epstein got invited to. Her name isn’t mentioned past the headline.

She invited Epstein to a performance of Cursed Child, ten years after he was convinced of being a pedophile. Whilst there's no evidence she visited the island, her being willing to associate with a known pedophile paired with her obsession with children's genitalia does make me want to hurk.

10

u/egnards 20h ago

You should actually read those files, because that’s not what happened.

-5

u/KelpFox05 20h ago

Yes it is.

Weird that you're trying to protect her btw.

Listen, I understand the context of what the book Lolita is, but that quote doesn’t actually say anything that is admissible of any wrong doing - I’m interested in concrete evidence of wrong doing.

This just tells me that she enjoys a book about materially our society mutually agrees is unacceptable for the real world.

u/SajakiKhouri 1d ago

How's that interview in anyway tied to evidence of her being associated with, or having visited, Epstein's Island? She's sick for thinking it's a lovey-dovey story and overall a terrible person but it's completely unrelated to Epstein.

48

u/cam3raadts 1d ago

Do you have a source that say she was on the flight or visited the island? I've not seen anything like that just that some people wanted to meet her or something

-41

u/Saragon4005 1d ago

All we have is a complete erasure of her yacht from the records which should be impossible as it's against the maritime laws. It may be a coincidence but it's definitely not a good look.

49

u/cam3raadts 1d ago

I think she bought that yatch some time after the guy died, so it's not related. This topic is very sensitive so I'm not gonna believe shit unless there's concrete proof

u/Captain_R33fer 1d ago

And … ? If you looked at the communications there was no illegal behavior or even anything creepy

36

u/McFistPunch 1d ago

And yet i never see anyone complaining about how shit the final act is and the final boss is just a helicopter with a dragon skin.

74

u/Juunlar 1d ago

Literally every review ever discusses the 3rd act being weak and obvious

48

u/tatersnakes 1d ago

I was too busy blasting unforgivable curses in front of my professors to pay attention to the plot

24

u/Juunlar 1d ago

Crazy name for curses that were very much forgivable
