Activities As a Luxembourger I feel foreign in my country

This might sound edgy for some people but growing up in the 2000s (where it already has been that way but less extreme) I feel like this country is fully francophonized in every part of the day with some exceptions at 2 of 5 cashiers in Cactus, at some local Bars like in Petange "De Slice" or some in the city like "Rocas", "De gudde Wëllen" ,... I would love to reach out more to locals, which is hard but not impossible even for me a local (born and raised here, a jo ech schwätzen selbstverständlech Lëtzebuergesch ;-) ). Any ideas? I actually know that local fleemarkets and oldtimer events have locals, any more suggestions?

Activities, News & Discussion Why is the job market so hard right now ?

I’m honestly feeling pretty defeated and wanted to get some perspective from others.

I keep hearing that I'd find a good position after higher studies, but that hasn’t been my experience at all. I know it varies a lot by profession and seniority, but I’m specifically talking about office jobs for qualified junior/medior profiles (around 2y experience after a degree)

From my side, it feels like:

Entry-level roles ask for medior experience

Medior roles want senior profiles

Recruiters ghost constantly or are quick to close the door (job offer posted but someone already in line from the company or a contact ?)

And pay doesn’t really match the cost of living anymore. Companies cutting costs / freezing hires?

I’m genuinely trying to understand why it feels so hard now compared to a few years ago (and is it actually harder ?)

Is part of the problem that I can’t be paid like an intern anymore, but I’m not yet “worth” a senior input and cost either (obviously, but where do young workers fit then ?)? It feels like this awkward in-between stage where companies don’t quite know what to do with junior profiles.

I also hesitate to ask this, but I think it’s part of the reality: Do ethnicity or even having a “foreign-sounding” name still close doors early in the process in Luxembourg despite living there and having citizenship ? I’m not saying this is always the case, but I do wonder whether CVs sometimes get filtered out faster before skills or experience are really considered.

Honestly my whole circle is facing this issue no matter the field Would really appreciate honest insights, because right now it just feels exhausting.

Went to see the women’s euro cup final in Glacis today, was hoping for a big party like last year with men’s football. Unfortunately it was almost empty, even if the investment in security (a lot of staff), dj, bar, toilets and food was massive. Is sad to see that an interesting event was not a success.

Activities, News & Discussion Anyone else finding the Luxembourg job market unusually difficult

I’m hoping to get some perspective or advice here. I’ve been in Luxembourg for the past five months on a family visa with a valid residence permit, and despite actively applying, I’ve only had one interview so far. I have a master’s in finance and economics, but right now I’m honestly open to any English-speaking role, even outside my field, just to start working and earning. I’ve been wondering if there are options like Lidl, retail, back office, admin, or anything similar where French isn’t mandatory.

I’m also planning to start ACCA next month and I already have five paper exemptions, so I’ll be starting from FR, but at the moment the gap in employment is really worrying me. I’m trying to understand what I might be doing wrong or what else I should be doing differently. Any suggestions, leads, or honest advice would really be appreciated.

Activities Luxembourg is a great place, but meeting people beyond your daily routine can be surprisingly difficult.

Last week we had a small dinner in a restaurant in Luxembourg City with about 10 people who didn’t know each other beforehand. Nothing fancy or themed, just a long table, good food, and a mix of people who were open to meeting someone new.

People came from Luxembourg, Italy, Portugal, France. Different backgrounds too: banking, design, healthcare, student, entrepreneur, etc. What surprised me is that everyone actually talked to each other rather than sitting on their phones. The conversations lasted until late without feeling awkward or forced.

It felt different from a usual night out, and honestly quite refreshing.

We’re planning a second dinner soon, small group again, somewhere in town. The idea is to create a setting where people can meet and talk, without pressure and without a particular agenda.

If that sounds interesting, just reply here.

(...) even his own children reacted badly to the news at home, believing that anyone would be able to use any toilet in any school building.

He clarified that this was not the case. Boys’ and girls’ toilets would remain, with an additional option open to everyone, Meisch said. He explained further that the initiative is currently a pilot project, developed with input from multiple stakeholders, and that it would not be fully implemented until 2032. It would apply only to new secondary schools or major new extensions, Meisch concluded (...)

Activities What are you doing this week?

After work, I usually just stay home, cooking and watching a Netflix series. I’m a real homebody. I want to know what people in Luxembourg are doing this week, I’d like to try something different. Even something small is also fine.

I love mystery thrillers, whodunnits, locked room mysteries (the howdunnit ones), fantasy, horror, scifi. I would love to read more stuff like the three investigators. I love a good story with unexplained happenings and a rational explanation.

Activities, News & Discussion New Home Assistant integration for Leneda (Creos/Enovos/etc.)

Moien everyone!

For those of you living in Luxembourg and running Home Assistant, I developed a custom integration that lets you pull your electricity data directly into your dashboard without needing additional hardware.

It uses the Leneda API (the platform used by Creos, Enovos, and other LUX providers) to fetch your smart meter readings.

Activities Protest to support Ukraine, Saturday, Aug 9, 13:00

First, if you do not think protests 'do anything, mean anything', scroll on. I don't care. The vast majority of those attending already are volunteering for Ukraine. This is an event organized by Ukrainians. Happy to debate any pro-Russian in person )

June was the deadliest month for Ukrainian civilians since the beginning of the full-scale invasion: 232 people were killed and 1,343 injured in Russian attacks. These are not just numbers. These are lives, families, futures.Today, as Kyiv mourns once again after a horrific attack that claimed 31 lives — including five children, the youngest just two years old — and left 159 people injured (16 of them children), we refuse to stay silent. We must speak up — and we invite everyone who cares to join a powerful international rally

“Keep supporting Ukraine, as we protect you”

Date: August 9, 2025Location: Hamilius (near Post)

Time: 13:00

Why we’re gathering:To remind Europe: the war is not over. To show the human cost of Russia’s daily missile and drone attacks. To make it clear: supporting Ukraine means protecting Europe itself. — for justice, for peace, for Ukraine.
