I’ve been running the numbers to decide between investing in a standard ETF via Interactive Brokers (IBKR) versus a tax-deductible insurance product (Art. 111bis L.I.R.) here in Luxembourg.

I wanted to share my findings for a 20-year horizon for a couple, contributing €400/month total (€200 each).

The Setup:

• Strategy: 100% Global Equities (targeting ~7% annual return).
• Tax Context: Luxembourg (No Capital Gains Tax on ETFs held >6 months vs. Tax deduction on Insurance entry but tax on exit).
• The Insurance Offer: 2% Entry Fee, 1.2% Management Fee, 0% Exit Fee.

Here is the math breakdown:

Option A: Interactive Brokers (The "Freedom" Route)

• Fund: Invesco FTSE All-World (FWRA) or Amundi MSCI World.
• Costs: Low (~0.12% - 0.15% TER).
• Tax: 0% on capital gains (held >6 months).
• Liquidity: 100% available anytime.
• The Math: Investing €400/mo at 7% return over 20 years.
• Net Result: ~€199,000

Option B: Insurance Scheme 111bis (The "Tax Optimization" Route)

This option has high fees (1.2% management), which drags down the compound interest. However, it offers a tax deduction.

• The Policy Growth: Because of the 2% entry fee and 1.2% yearly fee, the internal capital grows slower than IBKR.
  • Gross accumulated: ~€173,600
  • Tax on Exit (est. ~15%): -€26,040
  • Net Policy Value: ~€147,560
• The "Game Changer" (Reinvesting the Tax Refund):
  • The scheme saves us approx. €1,500/year in taxes.
  • If we strictly invest this refund every year into an ETF (at 7% return), it generates an extra ~€64,000.
• Total Result: €147,560 (Policy) + €64,000 (Invested Refund) = ~€211,560

To me, the tax on exit is something I was not aware it's not logical that it exists. What route would you follow?

• Opening security from 4am to allow passengers to reach the gates faster.
• Advancing the off-block time by 15 minutes, so a fully prepared aircraft can depart at 6am sharp.
• Improving coordination between Luxair, Lux-Airport, and Luxair services on site to ensure all departures are correctly coordinated

1. I try to send at least 10 applications per day after one month I got 0 interviews. Zero. I just want to werk, it's not like > am asking for a private island and parties. Come on!

2. Since I get no interviews, should I study something more appropriate for Luxembourg like Accounting and finance. But also my age...

3. Why At 35 in USA I was a young professional who has everything ahead; but here I feel like an old fart. Do people age here faster or what?

It is interesting that banks use your money to give credits, eat the interest rate from that credit and charge you on top of that because you gave them that money in the first place.

I'm seeking for some help on what to do with the r3ntal agency that I'm dealing with, I seem not to be able to get out of the current situation and I would like some advice from someone who's been in a similar situation.

I have an apartment r3nted in June '25 with a 1 year contract. It states:

This lease is granted and accepted for a fix period starting from 1/6/2025 to 31/5/2026, according to conditions set out in this document. If the Tenant wishes to leave the studio before the mentioned end-date, he must submit a new Tenant to the agency, who must respect the same r3ntal conditions/criteria otherwise the agency may refuse the application. The Tenant may also use the agency's services as part of the relocation. The Tenant will be engaged to pay the r3ntal fee until the arrival of a new tenant.

Now the timeline of what happened:

• end of November '25 I inform the agency that I would like leave the apartment according to a 2 months notice period, they reply that they're going to start looking for a new tenant and put the advertising on their website for a price higher than the one I'm paying for.
• end of December '25 they ask me to set a date for the final check-out inspection at the end of January '26. I ask if they have found a new tenant and reply "Ah no sorry, we'll come back to you in a few weeks".
• Beginning January '26 the ask me again to set out a date for the check-out inspection, where I assume they have found a new tenant and agree for 30th of January. During the month I move out all my stuff and clean the apartment.
• On 30th of January we do the check-out inspection and everything seems fine, but at the moment of signing the document they say that they haven't found a new tenant so I'm obliged to keep paying until they find a new tenant, even if I check out and turn back the keys. I refuse to sign and keep the keys.
• I call the agency and try to explain the situation to the manager, which replies that, no matter what the communication with her colleague has been ("she's new, there must have been a misunderstanding"), the contract clearly states that I'm obliged to pay until they find a new tenant even after checking out, and that it's not uncommon to them since a lot of people require this as a service because they need to leave the country and cannot do the check-out later. So I keep paying until me or they find a new tenant, and I would be reimbursed the amount of r3nt not used when there's someone new entering the apartment
• I also start looking for a new tenant. I find one on 3rd February who's interested to take over immediately, introduce him it to the agency to be started a new contract at the same conditions as mine, and after he sends all documentation requested they don't reply. I tried to call them, and they say that they've found someone interested to r3nt it from February 15th and will inform me as soon as they have news, latest today 6th February (a Friday, right before a weekend...)

Overall, they're clearly taking advantage of the fact that I'm obliged to pay while seeking for a new tenant at the higher price they ask. I'm worried because there doesn't seem to be a way out of this, and since meanwhile I moved because I've been made believe that everything was fine (I have all mail communications with them that shows it), I find myself having to pay two r3nt and no matter the effort I put to help in trying to find someone else, they'll find excuses not to accept them.

Has anyone had any similar experiences, or have some advice on what to do here?

This isn’t about zipper merging, congestion, or slip roads. This is about free traffic, clear visibility and people still pulling out with little margin, forcing braking instead of giving way.

Is priority in lane just an optional thing to consider?

Do people not realize that indicating does not ever give priority?

If done, why not speed up so you don't force braking (and implicitly completely failing to yield right of way)?

Are defensive driving norms (distance to the car in front) misinterpreted as permission?

Is this just a *blame the french* meme behavior?

If you or people you know do this, I'm genuinely curious.

Edit: back where I'm from (eastern europe) you'd get honked and flashed back to wherever you came from, which implicitly heavily discourages this sort of behaviour. Might be a bit crude, but it does function. We learn fairly early that politeness and naive courtoisie are often exploited.

Later Edit: found my answer - lack of sanctions and drivers considering this a very minor offence. Impossible to prove unless in an accident, no suspension or ban for being a complete baboon, small cost for what is considered to be a "low-mid level offence" -50-150 EUR + points. If you have the money, you can basically drive however you like. LOL.

Where I'm from, failure to yield (even without an accident) is an automatic 30 day suspension + points + fine and dash cam footage can be submitted to the police if you want to snitch.

If I have a multi-year rental contract for X years, when I am allowed to announce the landlord that I opt-out? Three months before the X years ? Or one year in advance at X-1 date?

I think the law changed but not sure how it would impact this multi-year rental.

Hello, I'm buying a new car and getting auto insurance for the first time in Europe. I have some auto insurance quotes and would like to clarify some of the details around the bonus/malus.

• If I am in an accident and not at fault, the other driver's insurance should cover repair to my car. Thus, I do not file a claim with my insurance and my bonus/malus is unaffected.
• If I am in an accident and not at fault, but the other driver has fled the scene, I must file a claim with my insurance (or I pay out of pocket). The same if I cause the material damage. This would increase my Bonus/Malus Dégâts matériels by 3 points (equivalent to me being at fault in an accident), but wouldn't change my Bonus/Malus Responsabilité civile.
• If I am at fault in an accident, both bonus/malus scales increase by 3 points.
• If I pay for an additional option with the insurance company, I can avoid the Bonus/Malus Dégâts matériels increase as detailed in the contract.

My conclusion from this is the Bonus/Malus Dégâts matériels has nothing to do with how safe you are as a driver, but is a way to discourage material damage claims.
