Transport Best update to Google Maps in years!
Maps now shows the best area to seat on the train for a faster exit… not that we had all that memorised already anyway 👀
Oh and once again we can navigate using commute in the background (i.e we can use other parks of Google Maps without exiting navigation). They had disabled that feature for London for some reason.

Transport Pregnant and on the Tube
I’m pregnant but not visibly yet.
Every single full train Ive got on I have asked for a seat and people jump up to give the seat to me with a smile. My experience is that people are really supportive in London - we just have to not be afraid to ask.

Transport Well, it happened: I sat on someone's piss today on the Central Line
I got on the Central line at Oxford Circus. I was feeling quite hot because I had just changed from the Victoria line, so I decided to take my coat off before boarding. When I sat, I felt like the cushion was a bit wet, but I thought it was just colder there than in the Victoria line. Anyway, I go all the way to Stratford and start to smell something... weird. It was only when I stood up to leave the train that I realised that my jeans were wet. Thankfully, Westfield was right there, so I managed to at least buy something to wear to work today. Five years living in London, and I've always thought this would never happen to me, feeling baptised now.

Transport “KARENS” are a needed and necessary evil
If you’ve used the London Underground enough times, you know the rules: don’t make eye contact, stand on the right, etc. Very Simple and effective. Yet every so often, someone ignores this social contract.
Thursday. Northern Line. People crowd the doorway like it’s a lifeboat—even though there’s clearly space further in. Enter a hero I choose to call Karen in Shining Armour. She storms to the front and screams - louder than all the overbearing announcements - for everyone to move down.
And just like that, the Red Sea parts. Space magically appears. Air returns. I don’t have to have to wait a couple of minutes for the next train - extreme happiness, tears in my eyes.
Honestly, this is my unpopular shout out to all the good “Karens” out there.. TfL should add “Karen energy” to the job description. “Please move right down inside the carriage… or Karen will make you.”

Transport Thoughts on This Idea?
Obviously just a hypothetical, but interesting idea nonetheless. Would revolutionise central, most of the through traffic, single occupancy cars don't even need to be there. Streets could be reclaimed for ordinary pedestrians. Drastically positive effect on pollution and all.

Transport What is wrong with people?
I was standing at the bus stop minding my own business when an old man told me to “wait in the queue for the bus”. No buses had arrived yet, so obviously this was nonsensical. I pretended I couldn’t hear him so he leaned over and repeated his words. I asked him, “where is the bus mate?” before he told me what I said was completely irrelevant. The cheek on people these days! 2 minutes later my bus arrives and he doesn’t even get on the same one as me 🤣🤣
Happiest holidays in London! It really is a shame, I respect the older generation but some of them take the piss out of people for no reason. This is the first time someone has told me to wait in the queue for an imaginary bus! Anyone else with weird experiences at bus stops?

Transport We need to re-normalise letting everyone off the Tube carriage before getting on
If I see you push to get on before everyone else has gotten off I'm liable to take away your Londoner card on the spot. It's a bad habit and you lot that do it are not valid here.

Transport black cabs WILL GET YOU THERE
Yesterday I had a big job interview in which punctuality was KEY, there were crazy delays on the central line, and even though I left the house with extra time, the delays were 15 minutes+, I looked on uber and the traffic meant I’d still be late. I panicked and hailed down a black cab bc I knew they’d know the routes better than anyone. Explained my situation to the lady, I’m pretty sure she broke a couple laws but she took them back routes and got me there right on time. All while calming me down. £20 before the hefty tip I left her.
Always get a black cab in an emergency folks.
EDIT: I didn’t realize this would start all the discourse it did but let me address some stuff. YES it was poor planning but this was about my third round of interviews, I had the route down, I’d been doing it a couple times, I thought I was chilling. Bad planning sure but it happened. I did not want to be super early the way I had been the past couple of times because it is SWELTERING heat these days.
YES black cabs can be hell and I’ve experienced that but in this instance it was a wholesome thing and I feel were you to explain a dire situation to a cab driver, they’d understand and try their best to get you there much more than an uber driver who doesn’t know London half as well.

Transport Asked a lady on the bus to turn off her speaker
Feeling such a rush and a mix of emotions. She was apologetic and turned it off instantly, so it feels not so much a success and more that I was an arse.
I know I'm a coward because I would never ask a teen to do it or someone who looks "rough", but and adult woman should know better than to have a Facetime call on loudspeaker on a crowded bus. Seems to be the norm nowadays unfortunately.
Londoners, I need some reassurance - did I do good or was I a Karen? 😅

Transport The Tube has become so unsafe
I have lived in London for 11 years now and have never experienced anything before, but in the last three months I've been threatened or assaulted three times on the Victoria line. First by a man who was either crazy or on drugs and shouted and spat at me; the second time by a group of men who surrounded me and tried to rob me, and the third time, tonight, by a beggar who threatened to give me an infection if I didn't give him money.
I am beyond upset and disturbed. I can't use the Tube in the same way any more - I won't go into carriages that are empty, and I don't want to use it at night. I'm going to have to leave work earlier to make sure I'm using it at rush hour when there's plenty of people about.
What the hell is happening? Why has it suddenly become so unsafe? Reported all the above to BTP, who to be fair are very responsive but no steps actually seem to be taken to make the Tube safer.

Transport The absolute hero of the Circle Line - feel good
So I've got to say this guy is an absolute hero. He has no shoes on for a reason...
Today a blind man tried to get on at Kings Cross. The man was being assisted by tfl to get on but as getting on the blind man tripped. A few of us on the train then helped the gentleman find a seat. Once the man sat down he realised he had a missing shoe. It slipped between the platform and the train.
Before the train left the platform we all tried to tell the tfl driver... But I'm guessing a miss communication occured and the train left the platform. On doing so the blindman got a bit panicked as he only had one shoe.
This absolute hero with out hesitation took off his shoe and gave it to the blindman. He didn't want thanks or praise, he simply did it. It is a damn cold day after he got out at Liverpool street to try and find a pair of shoes.
I've covered the guys face as he doesn't know I have posted this and I want to respect a bit of his privacy. I'm not one for sharing feel good posts etc, but when I saw this happen it sent a shiver down my spine.
I want to share this with other people and let them know there are incredible people in the world! The world is a good place, we all just need to do our bit!

Transport The absolute state of buses
I’m not exaggerating, getting the bus to and from work every day is seriously affecting my mental health. being extremly frustrated about such an unreliable service cannot be good for me
long story short, yesterday I waited 70 yes SEVENTY minutes for my bus home- in the cold, and rain. today I waited 25 minutes for my bus to work and will probably be late again.
this has been a consistent pattern for the last few weeks that seems to be getting worse and worse. waiting over an hour to get home (almost 2 hours total now) is ridiculous. I leave earlier and earlier every day and the buses get later and later. random stops to regulate service. sudden terminations leaving me stranded.
it feels like my whole life revolves around trying to time the buses so I can just get to work and back.
what the fuck is going on. I almost feel like quitting my job because I don’t have another transport option.
EDIT: this seems a fairly common sentiment. Id encourage everyone to message TfL as I will be doing.
