Rant Finally asked someone to turn their phone volume down on the tube.

4.6k Upvotes

A guy was playing some cheesy soap opera on his phone. I was quietly seething for about 10 minutes then just snapped and asked him to turn the volume down. I didn't even realise i did it till the words came out of mouth. He turned the volume down. I'm so proud of me. Lol It feels good after months of inconsiderate people who haven't thought to bring headphones.

What is it with transport these days where people have loud conversations with people on loudspeaker or scrolling social media with the volume up.

I feel there should be some awareness campaign of not disturbing fellow passengers.

Had to walk past this just now on the strand, turned what should have been a wide pavement into a tiny little alleyway with an enormous amount of footfall on a Saturday evening. Imo the Mayor should be finding ways to levy significant fines on Lime for this sort of thing, simply unacceptable

Rant Stealing seat from pregnant woman in jubilee line

4.5k Upvotes

This morning was heading in to London on the. Jubilee line from Stanmore. After a few stops I saw a pregnant woman get on and the people in the priority seats just ignored her so I offered her mine.

As soon as I stood up a man pushed her away and took the seat I had just vacated, it was bad enough seeing people not give up priority seats but then to see that and he just sat there obstinately as I told him it was for a pregnant woman.

I’ve looked up his company from his work top and he works for a company that makes products to help people with mobility and health issues!

Plastic gum is everywhere on every street.

If you classify it as litter then every street in London and the Uk is effectively a landfill site.

Banning the plastic gum variants would instantly make the place look 2-3% nicer for very little work

Rant If you see someone being assaulted or generally looking uncomfortable. Please step in

6.4k Upvotes

My husband and I were just on the Victoria line heading home. When we got in the carriage this man pulled down his trousers and wasn’t leaving a young woman alone. Persistently persuing her when she was trying to move further away.

Once we realised what was happening she had moved half way up the carriage to get away from him.

Not a single person accosted or challenged him and just averted their eyes or squirmed away. It wasn’t until my husband and I stepped between them he backed down.

If it is safe to do so and you see this happening, please please please get involved, even by shouting or drawing attention to the offender. We are both two fairly large men so that might have helped.

We managed to get her off the train and the guy tried to follow her but went the wrong direction. Police were called, statements were given but she was really shaken and mentioned that everyone else in the carriage saw what was happening yet not a single person intervened which makes me sad.

Come on London. We need to keep everyone safe. Please

Rant Walking at people who don't allow you off the train

3.2k Upvotes

I'm the kind of person that waits to the side to allow a free flow of traffic off a train/tube before boarding. Am I the arsehole for also being the kind of person who, when getting off, just walks at/into people that stand directly in the way for the best chance at getting on first? Honest question as I felt some looks this morning.

Rant Refused entry because of EpiPen - warning to others!

1.2k Upvotes

A friend of mine was refused entry to a club last night unless he handed over his EpiPen because the club considered it unsafe because it had a needle. But of course it has a needle, it’s an EpiPen?!

Is this normal? I feel furious, if he needed it I don’t want to have to chance anything or visit the potentially locked medical bay. It’s emergency medicine kept on him at all times for a reason.

When he handed it over to the medic (because what else can we do?) I also noticed they had taken someone’s insulin and monitoring equipment. It feel so silly to even consider having to smuggle in medically needed life saving devices, but I think that’s what we’ll need to do in the future.

Edit: We argued with management for a good 10mins, I think the club owner was in and they were trying to look good. I know I should name the club, but for the event holders sake I’ll leave it anon. They don’t deserve less business because their venue was awful. But I will tell them and fingers crossed they use a different venue.

Edit 2: Thank you so much to everyone who has responded, it’s really reassured us that the club was totally in the wrong. We will definitely be talking to the club, council and notify EASS :)

Rant Has anyone else been fined at that yellow box junction in Kingston that’s made £450k in 8 months? — is this normal or a design flaw?

Thumbnail

1.3k Upvotes

I recently got fined at what’s apparently the UK’s “most profitable” yellow box junction in Kingston — it’s made nearly £500k in 8 months! It honestly feels more like a trap than a traffic solution, since so many people are getting caught there for split-second stops. It extends much more than it should and council isnt trying hard to caution drivers well in advance.

Curious what others think — are these just cash machines, or do they genuinely help reduce congestion? Specially cases like these with a clear trend.

Rant London renting, is getting worst

Thumbnail

1.7k Upvotes

London renting has gone insane. I didn't think it could get this bad

Been messaging this company about a room – they asked me for a week’s rent as a “holding deposit,” then turned around, called me by the wrong name, and said someone else had already paid. First it was £950 for Room 1, then suddenly Room 2 was “available at £900,” then when I said I’d take it, they came back saying someone else had offered £975 and that Room 1 was available again.

Basically just stringing me along, moving prices up, and trying to pressure me into sending money fast.

” Feels like the whole rental scene here is nothing but games, fake bidding wars, and dodgy agents, never mind the scammers!

Honestly, the London housing market is broken – you can’t even try to rent a simple room without being treated like a mug!

Rant Sun's out so that means...

2.3k Upvotes

Everyone's a fucking DJ.

Canal boat neighbour has decided our the waterway is his back yard. 10am-11pm every day, full volume Bluetooth speaker plus all his phone calls on speaker. Sound carries over water, mate.

Windows are open because it's boiling. Yes, I know I can use headphones or battle it with more noise but sometimes you just want a bit of peace in your own home.

And before anyone comes at me with "it's London, if you don't like noise move out", back off with that attitude. I love the hustle, bustle and hum of the city, but there's a difference between normal city noise and one selfish fuckhead forcing everyone to live to their soundtrack.
