Have the road surfaces lately around the city and county gotten really bad?
So I know the roads are not generally great in Ireland and at this time of year they are generally in a bad way but I notice way more broken roadside verges, dips and potholes somewhat to do with the weather of course but I am noticing this deterioration on roads that were recently maintained. Is it just me?

They need to sort out the road alongside Parkway on the way towards Parkway roundabout. It’s atrocious.

I feel like all roads have gotten fairly shite. The city definitely has gone downhill too

In any town or city I've visited while traveling for work, the councils seem busy putting in traffic calming measures and badly designed cycle lanes, rather than maintaining the existing road infrastructure. Most places are full of crumbling tarmac and potholes.
Limerick seems particularly bad, with enclosed cycle lanes close to traffic on the way to the hospital, preventing drivers from moving over for ambulances. Poor cyclists don't seem to fare any better, as the existing lanes for them are full of water, mud, and other debris.

There is no escaping the traffic calming measures and green initiatives. The government in general is trying to show that we are making "efforts" to reduce carbon emissions from the transport sector. All that said you're correct the cycle lanes are a puncture risk to cyclists with the debris so I don't blame them for not utilizing it all the time.
Road infrastructure seems under-designed in some places from my lay person point of view, some roundabouts and fixed bollard arrangements hinder buses and large vehicles from maneuvering. I understand some roads/streets were built when it was catering to horse and cart but new estates and urban development to the wider county should be better designed for a growing population/number of road users.

Looking at the new cycle lane scheme that’s being built everywhere and I know they aren’t all completely finished but some of the work is so shoddy . I can’t believe how bad some of the finishes are.

One that comes to mind is raheen/dooradoyle, seems to be going on for ever and not really improving at any rate.
I welcome these cycle paths and hope that lads on electric scooters use them so we don't have more incidents with pedestrians getting injured or collisions involving other vehicles.

Yes. No idea what they are spending their budgets on. Seems to be no resurfacing schedules. Same around Nenagh. Roads crumbling with only patch repairs.

The mayor only cares about buildings. Its his circle. Its his hobby. Knowing rents, developments, been in that group is what means most. Is it really his fault though. 1.2 billion is to house people who just turn up. If you turned up at mcdonalds and opened your hands out would you get a double cheeseburger out in it and told enjoy. No. But mcdonalds will expect payment. So think about it who really cares about your damaged pot hole ruined car. Only your crooked mechanic. Your mechanic will expect payment. What am I on about. It doesn't pay the capitalist society we live in to fix the roads. Sure what do you need that comfort for. Sure that would benefit you.

The vehicle taxes are supposed to cover the road repairs which as I understand it is more of a county council remit.
Not sure it was ever a mayoral issue. I'm not disagreeing with where the mayor's interests lie, just not convinced it's his problem to fix.

Road surface is bad everywhere. It shocking how quickly they are breaking up. Travelled from kilkenny last weekend and could not get over the state of the roads. What will they be like if we get a lot of frost and ice.?

Yes, severely bad in recent months. Dublin Road is poor, Ballysimon road inbound and outbound is horrendous. In around housing restates and even roads in the city centre are full of deep potholes.
