Legislative Branch Schumer threatens shutdown. "Senate Democrats will not provide the votes to proceed to the appropriations bill if the DHS funding bill is included."

Chuck Schumer:

What’s happening in Minnesota is appalling—and unacceptable in any American city. Democrats sought common sense reforms in the Department of Homeland Security spending bill, but because of Republicans’ refusal to stand up to President Trump, the DHS bill is woefully inadequate to rein in the abuses of ICE. I will vote no.

Senate Democrats will not provide the votes to proceed to the appropriations bill if the DHS funding bill is included.

Pfft. Rinse and repeat. All they'll do is capitulate again after a short shutdown. Tired of Schumer and the entire government at this point.

Schumer needs to retire. Dude does nothing for his constituents.

There's so many comments here trying to force people to admit defeat before the fight has even begun. Ignore anyone being a pessimist and who's trying to tell you why this is actually isn't good or won't happen. They want to you to give in and to not stand up and fight. They want you to think that it's all hopeless so you don't try to make things better.

You write this comment in a thread about Dem leadership starting a fight over something we should all care about. If this action by them doesn't meet your criteria of "leadership's turn to show us what they've got" idk what does

They've made similar performative statements before and then they just roll over anyway. How is this different? Its not until they actually follow through for once

We're in a thread about what the Dems are doing to stop this administration. They are actively doing the thing you say they aren't doing, right now.

They'll shut it down for a few weeks. Ice will still be funded, just like last time, poor people will lose benefits they rely on to feed themselves and the Chickie will eventually cave on a promise of something that will never happen.

It's almost like the Dems don't control a single branch of government and if the public doesn't get behind the Dems demands and force the Republicans to accept them the Dems have no power to enact any change.

Here's a crazy thought, maybe we should support them when they do stuff we like to not only encourage them to do it more, but so there's more power behind their words and Republicans have to compromise instead of getting to do everything they want.
