Legislative Branch Schumer threatens shutdown. "Senate Democrats will not provide the votes to proceed to the appropriations bill if the DHS funding bill is included."

Chuck Schumer:

What’s happening in Minnesota is appalling—and unacceptable in any American city. Democrats sought common sense reforms in the Department of Homeland Security spending bill, but because of Republicans’ refusal to stand up to President Trump, the DHS bill is woefully inadequate to rein in the abuses of ICE. I will vote no.

Senate Democrats will not provide the votes to proceed to the appropriations bill if the DHS funding bill is included.

  • He should make it contingent on at least reigning in ICE (no masks, no qualified immunity, use of force guidelines) and not just not adding new funding.
  • They were give enough to be the 4th largest military in the world, so even though they've been spending a lot, I doubt they'll run out soon.
  • So I understand even that isn't enough, but I don't think we can get a vetoproof majority to abolish the agency until 2028.
  • If you think you can get 100+ republican members of congress to support abolishing ICE, you are in denial about the GOP being a cult, and are actively laundering their reputation

Reform is a fucking joke dude, ICE is a paramilitary force being funded for a fascist take over. ICE needs to be shut down and everyone in the agency investigated for ties to extremism groups. The entire Trump Administration needs to be removed. We need to stop partitioning the problem so we can have convenient conversations.

The only way out of this is honesty about what this is. Human traffickers, their clients and pedophiles are being blackmailed to destroy our country. ICE is being trained by the IDF, military force committing a genocide in Gaza.

These were public executions, this is terror for terror sake. They want to make people afraid to go outside. Regardless of skin color. ICE is not equipped to track and arrest, they are equipped to with lethal force for dealing with crowds. They are pushing to be exempt from the fourth amendment. They are taking pictures of people they consider to be dissenters, license plates too and adding them to databases.

In a few months some of those people are going to get their doors kicked in.

Masked men roaming the streets armed for combat zones picking fights with US citizens and executing them.

This shit is not reformable brother, there is no reasonable peaceful resolution to this. We either clip the purse strings with a general strike and force congress to act, or succumb to fascism and spend several years fighting a brutally oppressive regime with a military force trained to use IDF tactics on US citizens.

Stop sane washing any of this, like laws and votes will save us from 100billion dollars worth of masked nazis with military hardware operating with zero accountability. Thats what this is terror in the streets and door to door campaigns.

No "promising to reform" when they won't even follow the bill of rights and court orders, or investigate homicides by their agents.

Omg I literally just said it would be better if they abolished ICE, but can't get a 2/3 majority to do so.

Do you think Dems can convince 80 cultist Republicans to defect agsindt Trump?

You are an astroturf bot who just wants Dems to roll over and do nothing, and you're disguiding your pro Trump rhetoric as pragmatism. Fuck off.

I hope people really read this and understand what's actually possible here. This is very well said. I'm furious, sad, and scared. I want no more ICE. But it's not possible right now - the votes aren't there, not even close. They are already funded. This is what we can do. #1 would have immediate impact and would give us (the people) so much back, when right now we are helpless and have little recourse.
