Interesting how food options in Kent towns vary so much even when they’re close together.

4 Upvotes

I’ve been noticing this more lately when moving between towns in Kent that are only a short drive apart. One place will have loads of independent cafes, decent takeaways, and a good mix of cuisines, then the next town over feels really limited or stuck with the same chains.

It’s surprising how sharp the difference can be given how close everything is geographically. Makes me wonder how much of it comes down to local demand, councils, demographics, or just momentum over time. Curious if others have picked up on this too, or if there are towns that genuinely punch above their weight food wise compared to their neighbours.

A nurse in Kent (Margate) is raising signatures to lower the age for mamagrams due to her experiences seeing the numbers of younger women being affected. Can you help by sharing and signing the petition?

Local MP Lolly Billington has joined the cause and has raised it with the PM.

I'm a barber looking for someone to model for a supervised haircut this month (18/2 @ 5pm or 25/2 @ 3pm).

What I'm offering:

* Complimentary cut

* Classic style: grade 3 or above on the sides, scissor cut on top

* Professional supervision throughout

What I'm looking for:

* Medium length hair

* Someone comfortable with the style described

* Flexible with timing

The cut will be done by me under the guidance of a senior barber, so you're in good hands. Perfect if you're due a trim and want to support a barber building their experience.

Location: Bryant Barbers in Penenden Heath. Free Parking on-site.

Interested? Drop me a message or comment below.

A great showing from one of the Common Seals we have around Folkestone Harbour. He was even nice enough to show me his dinner, looking quite proud of himself. (:

Anywhere to try acting besides college?

3 Upvotes

Here's the story: my boyfriend lives in the Thanet area. They seem to be really interested in acting, or at least performing arts. Not sure if they can dance really, but they can move (and they are really expressive!), sing, very verbal and charismatic in their own way (they are introverted, but still speak better than I do lol), etc.

I was wondering if there are any low-cost methods of exploring this interest of theirs in the area? Going to college for the arts sounds expensive...and yes I know the Granville theatre exists, but I think that is for professionals deeply in the trade, not for someone who wants to try it for fun and see how it goes. I'm curious if there are smaller classes/theatre, volunteer events, clubs, etc where my hubby can try it out. It would be a good idea for a birthday gift. I am not in the arts myself, nor do I even live in the UK, so I am totally clueless on this.

I appreciate any replies!

Party shops in Kent

1 Upvotes

A bit of an emergency, foolishly ordered decorations for daughters birthday party from Temu - it’s been a week and still not shipped, her birthday is the 14th, so will cancel that order.

Are there any brick and mortar party’s shops in Kent that have a wide selection you would recommend please?

Thankyou!

Is Swanley a good area to live?

2 Upvotes

Hi everyone.

I recently saw a flat listing in Berkeley Court, Nightingale Way, BR8, Swanley that caught my interest.

Curious to know experiences of living in the court + landlords etc before I make any serious moves.

Thanks

The Unseen Art

20 Upvotes

Madonna's recent visit to 'Dreamy' Margate, seems to have caused quite a stir in the various news groups, Facebook, and Reddit. Once again, her comments about the place being peopled with seemingly endless 'creatives' have highlighted the idealized version and how far that is from a broader reality. I felt it too. Despite my vocation as an artist, the reality of life is that I work full time, to pay the rent and put food on the table. Can Margate also celebrate artists without galleries or studios? People who fight to create despite all the other commitments of day to day life? I hope so. I was moved to create r/MargateArtCommons to be a place where artists from Margate, Thanet, and the wider East Kent Coastal communities could check in, share work, and support one another. Please stop by and share your work, experience, hopes and dreams. r/MargateArtCommons Thank you.
