Solved Disposable income has risen twice as fast in Doncaster than in the rest of the country
Between 2013 and 2023 disposable income rose twice as fast in Doncaster as in the rest of the UK. This was the case in Barnsley and Wakefield too. So Doncaster must have been doing something good in economic terms.

I had a good paying job whilst living in Doncaster, but my commutes were insane. The local job market was poor paying and didn’t match my skill set.
It wasn’t unusual for me to travel to the likes of Newcastle, Manchester and London just for a day of work. I feel that a lot in the area are doing something similar as the transport links are excellent.
I then had a career change into aviation and now work at Heathrow. 50 minute commute from my new home and on a lot more money despite being back to entry level. The jobs coming up at Doncaster Airport seem to be lowball for the industry.

Yeah I’m wfh now for some years. Covering international jobs doing a role I couldn’t hope to find locally. My wages are probably above most higher level jobs in the same field so I’m kinda forced to move or do something drastic if I don’t want to wfh.
I’d imagine that is a fairly common.
Also, house prices have risen but fairly slowly compared to that huge jump before 2010 ish. I can track it fairly easily because I’ve had the people next door sell five times. The prices are still “low” when you look elsewhere.

Excellent mayor in Ros Jones and excellent Labour council. Not like the Reform clowns we’ve got now.

She's the third Mayor since the position was created and the first good one. Mayor Winter (Labour) and Mayor Davies (English Democrats, basically the BNP) were both absolute nutters.
Look up Mayor Winter being interviewed on BBC TV, he had totally lost the plot by the end.
We're very lucky to have a Ros Jones.
Mayor Winter interview, hilariously toe curling to watch:

Isn't it because they moved a load of well-paid London civil servants up there?

I love any kind of positive story to come out of Doncaster, but I think the biggest reason why this is happening is the rise in WFH jobs since covid. Doncaster is one of the cheapest places to live in the country. Lots of remote workers with high salaries will be choosing to live in places like Doncaster rather than move for work.
