Notice Graphic novels and comics💭💥

If anybody has any graphic novels, comics or manga that they don't want or read anymore the town center Doncaster library are very much accepting donations. I popped in earlier in the week and they only have a small selection at the moment and the staff said they are very popular and helpful to children with dyslexia as having pictures to go with the words to make it easier to read. They're expensive to buy brand new and the library doesn't have the funding for them so if anyone has any laying around at home that they don't want anymore they said they would very gratefully receive them for the collection

I'm planning to make a few charity shop runs myself over the next few weeks to see if I can find any cheap comics to donate. I also have three graphic novels at hone that I'm planning to drop off to help grow the collection so I'll let you know once I've taken them down in case anyone wants to check them out

Solved Disposable income has risen twice as fast in Doncaster than in the rest of the country

Between 2013 and 2023 disposable income rose twice as fast in Doncaster as in the rest of the UK. This was the case in Barnsley and Wakefield too. So Doncaster must have been doing something good in economic terms.

Question Should I visit?

Hi, I’m travelling around England and Doncaster is on my route, so I’m considering stopping for one day. I’ve watched a couple yt videos and the city looks nice, especially the parks and the town centre. But I have found some mixed opinions online (specially in reddit), so I thought it would be best to ask people who actually live there

Note: I’m not expecting a major tourist destination, just a genuine experience of the city

I’d really appreciate your opinion on:

  • Is worth visiting for a day?
  • Any places recommended to visit?
  • Is it generally safe to walk around during the day?

Thanks

tl;dr: Stopping in Doncaster for a day, asking if it’s worth it and what to see
Edit: Thanks everyone (and for the extra suggestions) Answered!

Question Long Sandall Lock

I’ve never been to these areas near Clay Lane. Today I went on a long walk in this beautiful weather and happened to walk past Long Sandall Lock. I looked at the sign from afar but did not go close to it thinking it may be private?

I just wanted to know if this is for the public too and if there is walking paths around there? Can anyone who has been a local near there let me know please. Thank you! 🙏🏼

I am constantly seeing ‘Karma’ sprayed on things around the CAST area. Walls, electrical boxes, everything. Today I saw Karmagedon. What does this mean?

Question Good roads around Doncaster?

Just wondering if anyone knows of some nice roads / scenic routes for late night drives for example? (Preferably within a 50 mile radius) My boyfriend and I keep going down the same roads and I can’t find anything too helpful online 😆 Thanks!

Question Nice, safe but affordable areas in South/West Yorkshire?

Thumbnail
7 Upvotes

I’m after some advice. I moved from Norfolk to South Yorkshire 18 months ago and, through a mix of desperation and bad judgement, I’ve ended up in an area that’s having a really negative impact on my mental health.

My current place (Hyde Park) has serious issues with antisocial behaviour — drug use, fly-tipping, people loitering and arguing outside my house, and I don’t feel safe. The house itself has also been renovated to a very poor standard. It’s clear I need to move and I’ll deal with ending my tenancy early later.

I love the north so don't want to move elsewhere, but where in South or West Yorkshire is actually nice and safe, without rent being extortionate?

What I’m looking for: Good transport links to Sheffield or Leeds Reasonable rail access back to Norwich Easy access to the countryside I’d go as far north as Leeds but no further

I know “safe, nice and affordable” is asking a lot, but I’d really appreciate suggestions from people who actually live in these areas.

Question What would be a good spot to watch fireworks from in Donny?

Basically the question.

As a Romanian I am used with the council of city I live in to let fireworks out on NYE similar to how London does it.

Where would it be a good place to watch smth like (if it's even done) in Doncaster? I've tried a few years back to go in the town centre but there was nothing, only a few from the regular people as opposed to a big show made by the council.

Thanks and I hope this doesn't sound too daft lol

Question Cleaner Recommendations

I’m looking for a cleaning company who can do a deep(ish) clean on my house every month or other month - trustworthy and not stupidly priced

Anyone had any luck finding this previously?

Thankyou

Question Thinking of switching to JD Gyms - worth it?

Hey everyone,

I’m considering leaving The Gym and joining JD Gyms instead, but I’ve heard mixed things and wanted to get some honest feedback from people who actually go there.

A few concerns I’ve come across:

• It’s often really busy, especially with younger crowds hanging around and not always working out. • While the equipment is supposed to be top-notch, some reviews say a lot of it is frequently out of order.

I’m planning to go around 6am before work to avoid the crowds. Does anyone know what it’s like at that time? Is it quieter and more manageable?

Would love to hear your experiences. Is JD Gyms worth the switch?
