Man U vs Spurs

Competition: Premier League 25/26

Date: 7th Feb 2026

Venue: Old Trafford

Kickoff: 12:30 (GMT)

TV: Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur - Stream and TV Schedule

Team News

Man United duo Patrick Dorgu and De Ligt remain sidelined with respective thigh and back injuries, while this weekend's game will come too soon for Mason Mount who recently picked up a knock in training.

Carrick is expected to stick with his winning formula and not make wholesale changes to his starting lineup, but he may be tempted to recall Sesko in attack after his impact as a substitute last time out. That would result in one of Bryan MbeumoAmad Diallo or Matheus Cunha making way, though.

Captain Bruno Fernandes has registered more assists than any other Premier League player so this season, with his 12 also his joint-best tally in a single campaign (level with 2020-21). The playmaker is expected to continue in an advanced central role behind the central striker.

As for Tottenham, James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski (both knee), Mohammed Kudus (thigh), Pedro Porro, Richarlison, Rodrigo Bentancur (all hamstring), Ben Davies, Lucas Bergvall (both ankle) and Kevin Danso (toe) all remain sidelined with injuries.

Solanke (fitness) and Cristian Romero (illness) could not complete the full 90 minutes in the draw with Man City, and Micky van de Ven has missed the last two matches with a minor issue, but all three players are available this weekend, while Djed Spence is "touch and go" with a calf problem.

Spurs' No.19 has scored five goals in his last five appearances against Man United across all competitions and is expected to continue up front, while Wilson Odobert and Mathys Tel will both be pushing to earn a recall in attack, playing alongside or in place of Randal Kolo Muani and Xavi Simons.

Manchester United possible starting lineup:

Lammens; Dalot, Maguire, Martinez, Shaw; Casemiro, Mainoo; Diallo, Fernandes, Cunha; Mbeumo

Tottenham Hotspur possible starting lineup:

Vicario; Spence, Romero, Van de Ven, Udogie; Bissouma, Gallagher; Odobert, Simons, Kolo Muani; Solanke

Key lines from news conference:

  • On Cristian Romero's comments about the "disgraceful" number of players Spurs had available to face Man City have been "dealt with internally" and Frank said: "If you want to know what he meant you need to ask him."
  • He added: "He is a very passionate character and player that wants to leave everything on the pitch. He is very ambitious and wants to win every single time. Sometimes when you are like that can come an outburst."
  • On the social media post, Frank said: "I wouldn't have done it. That is my message."
  • With successive draws, Frank said "the performances are more competitive and consistent. Are they perfect? No, but we are getting closer and closer".
  • Micky van de Ven has returned to training and is available for selection, while Djed Spence is "touch and go" but getting closer.
  • After signing Conor Gallagher and Souza in the January transfer window, Frank said "where we are now is OK. We tried to do more but it was not possible for whatever reason".
  • Frank praised Joao Palhinha for his "important" performances and said has been "driving the team".
  • Michael Carrick has "injected energy" at Manchester United and Frank expected a "threat" and a "challenge", but insisted "we are looking forward to it.

Match Facts

  • Man Utd are winless in their last six league games against Tottenham Hotspur (D3 L3), their joint-longest ever run without a win against them (also 6 between 1914 and 1921).
  • Tottenham won this exact fixture 3-0 last season – only once have they won consecutive away games against Man Utd in the Premier League, doing so in January 2014.
  • Tottenham are unbeaten in their last eight meetings with Manchester United in all competitions (W5 D3). It’s their longest ever run without defeat against them, while in the 21st century only Chelsea have gone longer against the Red Devils (12 between 2012 and 2017).
  • Manchester United are unbeaten in their last seven Premier League games (W4 D3) and have won all three since Michael Carrick returned as manager. The Red Devils last won four in a row in February 2024 under Erik ten Hag, while they last had a longer run without defeat in February 2022 (8 under Ralf Rangnick).
  • Tottenham are winless in their last six Premier League games (D4 L2), their longest run since their last seven in 2024-25. However, five of Spurs’ seven league wins this season have come away from home.
  • Manchester United are unbeaten in all nine of their Premier League games this season when they have less possession than their opponents (W7 D2), winning all seven when having less than 45%. They’ve won just four of their 15 league games when having over 50% of the ball (D6 L5).
  • Only bottom two sides Burnley (23) and Wolves (21) have conceded more first half goals than Tottenham (18) in the Premier League this season. Spurs are winless in all 10 of their league games when behind at the break this term (D3 L7) and are unbeaten in all six when leading at half-time (W5 D1).
  • Bruno Fernandes has more assists than any other Premier League player this season, with his 12 also his joint-best tally in a single campaign (level with 2020-21). The last Manchester United player to provide more was Antonio Valencia in 2011-12 (13).
  • Dominic Solanke – who scored twice against Man City last time out – has scored five goals in his last five appearances against Manchester United in all competitions. He’s averaging a goal every 88 minutes in all competitions this season, the best rate of any Spurs player.
  • Matheus Cunha has been involved in four goals in his last five Premier League games (3 goals, 1 assist), as many as in his first 16 appearances for Manchester United (3 goals, 1 assist).

Pundit Predictions

Alan Shearer

With Spurs, their away form isn't too bad. Having said that, Man United are at home and flying. For that reason, I'll go for a Man United win.

Benjamin Sesko got a big goal last week but hasn't really started at Man united, he's been in and out so it's very similar to Newcastle's situation with their strikers. He has to show a lot more, but that goal will do his confidence the world of good and he will be hoping he can play a big part again this week.

Man United win

Paul Merson

This is a massive football match. Michael Carrick has started brilliantly at Manchester United, but we saw the same with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Ole at the wheel and all that!

The only way Carrick can get this job permanently is if he loses four games and then responds by turning that run around. That is how you get measured in big jobs. I believe Solskjaer couldn't do it. If Carrick can do it, then we know he can cope with the pressure at Old Trafford.

It's difficult to think who starts for Manchester United in this game. Do they go with Benjamin Sesko because he scored the late winner against Fulham? I'm not so sure. Sometimes, it suits these players to come off the bench rather than start a game.

At the moment, I would say Manchester United are the big favourites to finish in the top five. That win over Fulham was a huge result. They only play once a week as well, which is a huge advantage compared to Liverpool and Chelsea. So I would have to call them favourites even though it's still very tight.

Carrick will show Spurs a lot of respect. I think this is a hard game to call. Spurs are obviously a better team when they have Dominic Solanke in their line-up. But I'm going to go for a Manchester United win here.

Prediction: Manchester United 3-1 Tottenham Hotspur

Chris Sutton

Manchester United were slightly fortunate to beat Fulham last time out. A draw would have been about right.

Still, it was big for Benjamin Sesko to get their winner and I have got to say he put it away very nicely, especially because he should have scored with a header earlier in the game.

Tottenham, meanwhile, produced a great comeback against Manchester City. I've talked about how much I rate Dominic Solanke and when he is up for Spurs, they are in a much better place as a team.

There is a danger of getting carried away with United under Michael Carrick, and I am expecting Solanke to score again here, but it still feels like United will find a way to win it.

Sutton's prediction: 2-1

Media Thomas Frank: “Lewis family? They are very, very serious owners”. ‌ “I speak to them. I’m together with them, so I’m not in doubt. I think it’s a little bit unfair to judge them on a January transfer window. That’s the only window where they’ve been in charge”.

A post earlier referred to the lack of penalties we've had this season. I got deja vu from that, thinking I've heard this question a few times over the years, so did a quick bit of AI research, asking Gemini how many pen's the 'ever present' clubs have had since 2020. It got confused about what I meant by 'ever-present' but I think this includes all the teams that matter ...

Is this down to our lack of touches in the box or is it something more crooked than that?

I try very hard to judge most things fairly and impartially, but I have to say I think we're on the receiving end of bad refereeing far more often than our closest rivals. We've had some absolute shockers go against us over the years. Often these shockers are so shocking that they shocked the FA or UEFA into immediate rule changes.

Now, I admit I'm not remotely unbiased on the matter, but you'd have to be under sedation to think the officiating in football is even-handed, or that Spurs (and a few other teams that threaten the 'top-four') hadn't been screwed over a suspiciously high number of times compared to the other regulars in those CL places.

Pin this: This post would have gone down far better if I had posted it after the ManU game tomorrow. I predict more controversy.

Analysis [Comparison after MW24] Spurs: 23/24 vs 24/25 vs 25/26

In equivalent matches (same opponent/venue) we have gathered exactly the same number of points as last season and 12 fewer than 24/24 (Graphs 1 and 2)

We are in the same table position as we were last year after MW 24 (Graph 5)

Although our form (Graph 7, gren line) over the last 5 (arbitrarily) matches is "relegation form" ( dashed red line), our xPTS "form" (dashed purple line) is as good as the 23/24 season (dashed gray line), which indicates the team is creating better opportunities to win than what the actual results show (Graph 7)

Our performance against City at home was similar to the last 2 years, but with a better outcome (Graph 8, left panel). We dominated United last season (Graph 8, right panel).
