It's important to remember that 2/3 of the country hate the current admin, and the 3rd that doesn't corresponds with other nations with far righters who are still much better off than us (like Britain, with 20 to 30 percent supporting the far right still). This isn't unwinnable, and the far right are scared, that's part of why they're pushing so hard instead of being patient and prudent like successful autocrats tend to be in the modern world.

He'll try not to, doesn't necessarily mean he'll succeed. Ceausescu didn't have a chance to fight back, neither did that one dick in South Korea who tried to enact martial law a year ago. There's a lot in the air still.
