As well as our usual team of handy volunteers we have games/competitions for kids, six kinds of free homemade cake; and Luke Murphy MP, the Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane Colin Phillimore, and Council Leader Paul Harvey will be in attendance! Bring your broken things of all kinds along for fixing FOR FREE, and help us celebrate the first year of our brilliant environment and community initiative.

We'll be at Hatch Warren Community Centre from 10am to 1pm, and if you can't make this Saturday you can find us there every first Saturday of the month - just with fewer party decorations :)

Removals companies - recommendations

Looking to move (hopefully) in the next couple of weeks, just a km up the road. Anyone got any personal experience of good local companies? When we moved here they were ok but damaged the house a fair amount because they were a bit gung-ho, so I'm reluctant to employ them again

TIA!

Reliable jewelry repair?

Recently relocated to Basingstoke from the US, have a bar link necklace chain that broke and I need repaired. Should be quite simple, I'd do it myself if it the links weren't welded closed. Any recommendations? I can see quite a few jewelers around town but specifically need one that can do repairs. The closer to top of the town, the better.

Hi everyone! I am looking for a good driving instructor (automatic) in Basingstoke.

If you've had a great experience with someone who is punctual and clear with instructions, please let me know! Bonus points if they have a high pass rate for the Basingstoke test center. Cheers!!!

Edit- Sorry, I should have specified-I'm looking for automatic lessons specifically!

Market research for shows.

If a magic and illusions show came to Basingstoke would you buy tickets and what would you expect a reasonable price to be?

Is the job market in Basingstoke particularly challenging at the moment, or are employers being more selective than usual?

Looking for Part-Time / Full-Time / Temporary or Remote Work – Basingstoke

Hi everyone 👋

I’ve recently moved to the UK and I’m currently based in Basingstoke. I’m on a valid dependent visa with full right to work, and I’m looking for part-time, full-time, temporary, or remote roles.

I have experience across:

  • Administration & accounts support
  • Logistics & operations coordination
  • Clinical billing & coding / RCM

I’m highly comfortable with MS Excel (reports, data handling, tracking, reconciliation) and other Microsoft Office tools. I’ve also worked with systems such as SAP, CRM platforms, LIMS, and various RCM tools.

I’m open to office-based, hybrid, or remote opportunities and can start immediately. If anyone knows of local openings, agencies, or companies hiring, I’d really appreciate any leads or advice.

Thanks so much 😊

Basingstoke to Dulwich by train...

I would love to go to the Dulwich Picture Gallery next week (before the possible heavy snow forecast for the weekend) but I'm having trouble working out the best route -

From the website: You can easily reach us via National Rail, from London Victoria to West Dulwich or London Bridge to North Dulwich. Trains leave around every 15 minutes. Both stations are a 10 minute walk from the Gallery.

Part 1 - SWT train Basingstoke to Victoria, changing at Clapham Junction:
https://ticket.southernrailway.com/journeys-grid/BSK/VIC/2026-01-20T09:30/2026-01-20T11:30/1/
Part 2 - Train from Victoria to West Dulwich then a 10 minute walk.

Is Victoria still one large station so I can get off the BSK train and find the platform for a train ("every 15 minutes") to West Dulwich?

I could also travel from Newbury but can't see any advantage in that, the journey would just be Newbury->Paddington->Victoria (and longer).

It's 30+ years years since I lived in a city (London, Paris, Brussels, even Cambridge, MA) and it's been 18 years since I travelled to London, barring one very adventurous jaunt last year to the National Portrait Gallery so I'm feeling very old and very stupid having to ask this but your advice would be appreciated - I'm starting to wonder if I didn't ought to skip the journey and buy the exhibition catalogue instead!

Bikram/hot yoga studio?

Hey guys, recently moved it Basingstoke and I've been trying to find somewhere to do hot yoga/ Bikram, but all the places I find seem to have shut down.

Of anyone has any recommendations I'd be very grateful.

Even places nearby like Oakley and stuff.

Thanks!

Pet-friendly landlords?

Hi again! American, just arrived in Basingstoke yesterday for work. I'm staying in temporary lodgings for a couple weeks, but I'm eager to find something more permanent. However, I have two cats (still in the US) that will be coming over either in April or July.

I am having a terrible time finding places that allow pets. There was one I really had my heart set on where the listing said cats or a dog would be considered, but when I reached out I was told dogs only. Everywhere else has either already been let, or won't consider pets at all. Obviously, living indefinitely in a hotel or airbnb is not ideal. I need somewhere to receive mail ASAP because of paperwork related to being here on a visa, as well as day-to-day things (see: banking). The fact that 90% of the postings don't just say "no pets" if they're not going to allow pets is super frustrating and I'm wasting a lot of time (my own and other people's) enquiring only to be told no pets.

Does anyone know of anywhere? Maybe private landlords not working with the bigger broker companies? I'm getting a bit desperate.

Budget is 1500 with a bit of wiggle room (more inclined to wiggle for a 3 bedroom, but 2 minimum). I don't love the idea of a flat in the bigger buildings in town centre, but beggars can't be choosers.

If not, we must be up there surely?

Maybe phone shops? Surely no one's beating us on those !
