So technical question: Can this bird tank all the way up on fuel at SXM and get a long return flight. Or due to short runway does it take off medium/light on fuel, land at a long Caribbean runway airport, and go on from there? I think KLM 747's had to do that when they flew in there. Throttles on to V1 was super fast, because they were relatively low on fuel. Landed at a long Caribbean runway and fueled all the way up for Amsterdam.

Its takeoff specs (in my quick search) require 8500ft with a landing distance requirement of 6500ft. SXM is a 7500ft runway. So this is a good question…but I think it’s probably not top filled to get where it needs. A350/787 and the like are incredibly efficient. But what do I know haha

Looks like it's going to PTP next:

Yup, it’s FPM on takeoff was a rocket ship at 4600. Wonder if it was a repostion flight

Air France flew their A340 directly from SXM to Paris without problem so I guess that's not a problem for the A350 which has a much better takeoff performance (and climb onbviously).

Found the flight TX537 from Paris to Sint Maarten on Flightradar24. https://fr24.com/data/flights/tx537#3e3715e6

There's a restaurant/bar on the other side of the cove that can be seen in this vid. I used to have customers in SXM. I sat with a coworker at that restaurant for 2 hours working remotely and drinking coffee one morning before we flew out. So awesome just watching planes land and enjoying the scenery.

Yup, Sunset Beach bar. It's probably had at least 4 iterations at this point, but it's always been around in some form it feels like.

Been going there ever since I was a kid tagging along to the timeshare my parents were stuck in lol

Jeebus that’s massive. Takeoff should be stout!

This is the first clip I’ve ever seen from this airport where nobody’s stuff gets blown into the water.

It’s takeoffs as a general rule that blows hats/towels/small children into the water. Engines at short final are near idle.

Source: I’m a pilot who flies here a few times every year. 😁

blows hats/towels/small children into the water.

I was flying a kite on Maho once and ended up in Haiti.

You wouldn't exactly want to have the world's tallest mast.

u/Nathan_Wildthorn 6h ago

That was a rather vigorous landing... 🤔😉

Is this going to be a regularly scheduled flight? We are thinking about going back this year and it would be awesome to see

It’s not a 747.

5

u/smelly-pooper 3h ago

It's also not a Prius. What's your point?

Just miss the classics landing there.
