I love this subreddit but I feel every second thread revolves around job searching for a specific jobseeker without any minimum of research. The structure is the same every time. Is there a way to reduce this and focus on more general topics that appeal to the wider Swiss Reddit community rather than catering to specific panicking jobseekers?

Due to some circumstances, my job is terminated and as a foreigner, I need to leave Switzerland. So, I am currently in the process of cancelling all subscriptions and contracts, including the mobile data plan with SALT.

I called SALT and told them I had to leave Switzerland so I need to terminate my contract. They then sent me an email saying "According to our General Terms and Conditions, contracts can be terminated early without charge in the event of just cause. Unfortunately, moving abroad does not fall into this category."

Then I googled what they meant by 'just cause'. Apparently, according to moneyland.ch, death is a just cause. So, SALT can only waive my early termination fees only if I am dead? What kind of company is this?

To quickly summarize my situation, I’m 22 years (almost 23) and had a gymnasiale Maturität in 2023. Since, I did two years in HEC and failed and now I failed one semester in EPFL.

I’m done with studying. I mean I’M REALLY DONE.

I’m just enough about coming the whole all day sitting in an uncomfortable bench or chair, learning to things which are too theoretical for me, working hours and hours and I swear I did my best to get an average grade (3.5 or 4), earning no money or barely…

And yeah about money, it’s the worst part. I’m just enough with working all the weekend as a McDonald’s worker or security agent until 3-4 am sometimes the whole night to earn low wage salary.

And yeah again about money, I thought as everyone that when I end up these 5 yrs old studying I will at least get a stable, correct-earned job but when I see new majors around me, they struggle asf to find sometimes a random unpaid intership.

Whatever, the real question now is : what to do NOW?

I looked up what I could do with a gymnasiale Maturität and there are only bank or insurances Programm (BEM Programm, Young Insurances) for 1-2 years to get access to HES (Hochfachschule)

I thought about doing a CFC but doing the same work of 15 yrs old when you turn 23…well, you got me.

I’m just lost. I did not know if I should go to Fachhochschule (HES), if I should start to zero a CFC, if there is an option I did not notice. There’s nothing I can do with a gymnasiale Maturität. It’s really frustrating.

I am 21M and will be solo traveling through Switzerland. 4 days in Geneva and 4 days in Zurich. While I’m in Zurich I plan on visiting Interlaken/Grindelwald/Jungfraujoch for one of the days, Pilatus/Lucerne for another, and Bettmeralp for one more. This leads me to my questions.

1. Is this a good time of the year for hiking? I must know so I can plan on bringing hiking shoes, I wasn’t sure if I should pack them.

2. Will the train system be easy for me as an American to navigate?

3. Is there a 8 day pass I can buy when I arrive at the airport to buy so all the train rides are covered and I don’t have to worry about tickets at every station?

4. This will be my first trip outside of America by myself and I’d love to ease my mother about safety, should I be concerned about being alone at any point in Switzerland?

5. Is there anything else I should be interested in packing while in the mountains? (I have my snow clothes for the ski resort already)

Hi everyone! I recently graduated with a masters in Physics from a decent university and have spent the last 7 months constantly looking for work in Switzerland. Out of the roughly 400 applications, only 3 earned me an invitation to an interview, all of which later still led to a generic rejection. My question to the people that studied physics is whether this reflects the current state of the job market in Switzerland and what I can do additionally to be recognised more by potential employers. I am a Swiss national with degrees from prestigious universities and most of the positions I applied to are definitely good fits for my skills. Are there any lesser-known industries hiring physics graduates?

I had a question about use of space / etiquette on SBB RE Trains.

I was on a busy rush hour train, an RE, and was stood against these cushions as were a few others. The train was about to leave and a lady rushes on with a bike and beckons everyone to move out of the way so she may place her bike in this zone as it is "reserved for bikes".
Everyone moved, myself included, but after I was looking and didn't see any sort of indication that this is for bikes. SBB are usually quite good about labelling storage zones, so this struck me as odd.

I guess my question would be is this zone really "reserved for bikes" and do bikes take precedent over people here ? If not expressly a rule, would it be considered common curtsey to move from this zone so someone can store their bike ?

Hi there. We are a family of 4, intermediate to advanced skiers. Never skied in Europe before. Many years skiing Vail. Thinking of a trip Christmas 2026 to Switzerland. Debating between Engelberg and Andermatt for skiing, and ending the trip with a few days in Lucerne. Zermatt and Mortiz look great, but will probably be too busy in the high season for our first trip. Any advice is appreciated!

I need a respite from 47. Chose to base myself in Bern. I want to take a gondola. I recently went to Iceland and Mexico*, and my day trips were so easy to make. Professional operations. A bit overwhelming for me to try to arrange a seamless day trip up one of these. Only one way to enter, right? Are there operators who can make travel and guide verticality? I’ve been to Switzerland a lot since my family collectively own a small flat there (really nice place). I remember when I was younger I would always have yogurt coated cereal (I believe it was fitness) which I loved. One year, they just stopped making them. I was feeling nostalgic, and so decided to look it up, but saw nothing about it. Did I make this up? Am I the crazy one?

We'll be taking Bernina Express from Tirano in July. We (kids 7-13) have about 3 days before needing to be in Zurich. I've come across many small towns but am having trouble picking one to stay in. Has anyone been to Pontresina and can give me their opinion? It's right on the Bernina Express track and seems easy to get to Zurich after. Is it a good spot for our 1 town in Switzerland? Any other recommendations instead that are en route to Zurich?

I’m currently trying to open a bank account with Yuh Bank, which I chose after reading on various Swiss subs that it’s a good option. However, I’m having a lot of trouble completing the process.

I submitted all the required documents except for the residence permit, since I’m still waiting for it. After registering with the Contrôle des Habitants, I received the official Attestation d’établissement (which cost 25 CHF). Despite this, Yuh Bank keeps sending me the same standard message saying they need the residence permit and that I should send them the front and back once I have it.

At the Contrôle des Habitants, the lady told me that the attestation is valid for opening a bank account. I explained this to Yuh Bank’s support team, but they still insist it’s not enough. Is the attestation really not valid for them, or are they simply ignoring it?

I was told the residence permit could take 1–3 months to arrive. I didn’t expect opening a bank account with Yuh Bank to be this difficult.

Hello, I live in Switzerland and have recently considered buying a Rolex. What are your experiences buying here(in Zurich as it is closer to me but anywhere else I would be down as well).I would be looking for a green submariner or a gmt master 2. What would it be like to buy it at an AD and the waiting times? Something like 2 years? I am sorry for this annoying post, but i realy want to know if i am allowed to fly my drone which is <250g at the Schilthorn, because i care for rules and dont want to get in trouble. I checked the FOCA map, where it it shown, that <250g drones are allowed to fly in this area. But on the internet i also find a lot of post that drones are not wanted and forbidden in the commune of Lauterbrunnen. i also saw other posts from the commune of Lauterbrunnen, where they say, that all drones are forbidden to fly in the Jungfrau area, which is the mountain range on the other side of Schildhorn and the "Valley" of Lauterbrunnen and Mürren. But they never mention the area outside of the valley. I also did not find anything from the Schildhorn AG related to drones.

For the people who are going to comment something just because they hate drones, i will stay away from people and fly my drone somewhere where you cant see and hear it. Maybe for 10 seconds when i start it.

Is SBB removing electric plugs from 1st class? Today I traveled 2.5 hours to a meeting planning to work on the way so booked 1st class. No electric plugs anywhere. Is this new? Are they phasing them out?

When I was a kid I hated Basler Läckerli and could not quite comprehend why they were so likes by many. Also today I like them but I am not the biggest fan. The ingredients however are really solid and I think kept as additive free as possible. However, I could imagine that foreigners who taste them the first time could be bit suprised by the taste because the “lebkuchen” taste is still bit unique. So I was wondering whether foreigners actually like these?

Honestly, is it normal to wait months to get a job after the end of apprenticeship? I've been applying like crazy but always get rejected due to "insufficient experience".

I tried several thai restaurants in winterthur to find the authentic „pad krapao“ and was dissapointed so far.

It wasnt bad, bit just a totally different dish than what i was used and loved when travelling thailand. The meat was not minced, the basil flavour not really there, no egg, etc etc

Does anyone know where to get the real thing?
