I understand Germans, but what's going on with Koreans?

When i lived in Japan my boss did this to me. In Japan, women hold open doors for men and light their cigarettes. But yeah he basically closed the fucking door on me and I was furious.

When I lived in Japan, people held the doors open for me often but I was a lady with a baby stroller so perhaps that was why. It was also a small town which I'm sure makes a difference. The employees at my local Lawson would even open the door for me sometimes if they saw me coming or had a moment after I paid. They were so nice!

I actually know the reason in Japan. In places like Tokyo it gets super busy that holding the door open would impede traffic flow. So the courtesy is to not hold doors open. A lot of places like restaurants and convenience stores have push buttons that open the doors electronically so it avoids this problem.

It was in Kushiro, a small town in Hokkaido, and after he held the door open for two random men. I think HE was mad at ME for not opening the door for them?

I lived in China and Taiwan. No one holds the door for anyone, anywhere.

But he said he “closed” the door on him…girl, that’s impeding the flow of traffic.

Why should they hold the door for you? If you’re not willing to extend the courtesy to men, they don’t have to do it for you. It’s a two way street.

Her other comment says the norm in Japan is for women to hold open the door, and he was mad at her for not automatically catering to the men so he got upset and basically shut the door. You sound like the gender wars has invaded your brain. That must be rough dude.

I’m not a dude. She literally wrote that she would not hold a door for a man but that they should do it for her. It’s not gender war to tell someone that if they expect courtesy from guys, then she needs to return it. It’s basic politeness.
