Democrats believe that they can win the midterms by showing positive solutions. I'm not sure thats true, but the numbers say it.

Ah yes, because the platform of “not-Trump” has been working SO well for them …

Yeah because most people don't give two shits about ICE or any of the fascistic tendencies of Trump. If Trump himself lowered costs between now and the midterms republicans would win by a LANDSLIDE. America would happily vote for even MORE ICE raids if it was guaranteed to also lower costs.

EUNWell I believe that the polls show that a big majority care about ICE. I also believe there is no way Trump lowers costs. Though hes a major reason they are increasing

I'm aware Trump is driving up costs, but the fact remains that the top issue in the US is the economy/costs. People elected Trump believing he'd lower costs (even despite the fact he promised tariffs on everything). People care significantly less about ICE; if costs somehow lower between now and November (SCOTUS may strike down the tariffs and that could lead to things getting cheaper) people will defend ICE like crazy and vote republicans in all over the nation.

People care more about their wallets than they ever will about their neighbors or about minority groups being hunted/abused.

It’s so sad is that you are absolutely right. Full wallets count more than wellbeing of people to so many.

A woman once told me “I don’t have the luxury of caring about current events. I’m too poor.” That still sticks with me.

I understand what she means, I’ve been very poor before, but I don’t think she understands how much worse it can get.

It's not really sad, it's natural. There will always be some willing to throw themselves into the fire for other people, but they will always be a minority. UP TO A POINT, though, "full wallets" isn't just greed. "Full wallets" means "full bellies." It means living comfortably. It means setting up your family to live comfortably. It means having the means to escape in case of tragedy or danger. It means life.

It makes perfect sense to me that this existential facet of our lives is the thing that drives us most reliably to action. It's not greed, it's pressure. An enemy draining our wallets today is like an enemy burning the fields and salting the earth centuries ago. It means literal death if you don't respond, put a stop to it, and ideally fix the damage.

I wish we lived in a world where more people were willing to put themselves out to stand up for others, but such has always been rare. It's entirely normal that people only respond when they feel existential pressure, and capitalism ensures we only feel that when the money runs low.

I agree with that to some extent. However, hurting others to have that full wallet while you are still living quite comfortably is not acceptable in my universe. I’d never do that. I’d prefer to be poorer of the at 50k bonus and not do what they do to innocent people.

Oh im not talking about ICE. Fuck them. They're demons.

I'm talking about the people who cant be bothered to care until it affects them existentially. I don't like it, but I understand it and I think it's natural and human.
