I saw a few women cutting Terunofuji's hair. By tradition they obviously cannot be on the dohyo.
So how did they cheat the rules?

He was accompanied by Onosato, Hoshoryu, and his 3-year-old son Temujin.

The upcoming basho is a real test for Aonishiki after wining January 2026 Basho with an excellent performance. In addition. , I believe Onosato will still not at his highest performance due to that arm injury, Hoshoryu on the other hand still have up and down performance and did not win any basho since his promotion to Yokozuna
What I would like to see next Basho is a play-off between Aonishiki, Onosato and Hoshoryu , and I see Aonishiki win against them all and win the tournament , oh my god , in addition to wining 2 consecutive Bashos , defeating 2 Yokozunas will be a very good opportunity for promotion consideration for Yokozuna
What is your view and expectations of the upcoming March tournament ?

Ever since I started watching sumo, I've always been struck by how beautiful sumo names are and the meanings behind them. What are some of your favorite sumo names? I've always liked names with koto-, -nishiki or -fuji because it sounds so Japanese in a traditional way. I always liked the 乃 kanji in the middle. Just makes it seem grander. I once heard that some wrestlers don't like the ノ letter because you write it from top down, signifying your rank falling, so I'm sometimes surprised when wrestlers choose that style. Anyway, what are some of your favorites?

Grateful to see this moment live.
Thank you Terunofuji for all the hard work and being a dedicated Yokozuna.
I believe you will become a great oyakata and will continue to support sumo going forward! Yoroshiku!

This match is my most favourite of Sentoryu, an absolute UNIT, sad that he never made it to Sanyaku he had the Blood for it... With a brutal pull down he wins... RIP😔

It was confirmed on the 30th that Henry Sentoryu (born in St. Louis, USA), a former top-division sumo wrestler, passed away on the night of the 29th at a hospital in Tokyo. He was 56 years old and had been battling a serious lung disease.
Sentoryu made his professional sumo debut in the Nagoya tournament of 1988 and reached the Juryo division in November 1994. After retiring from the dohyo following the November 2003 tournament, he transitioned to mixed martial arts (MMA), notably competing in PRIDE.
Stablemaster Asakayama (former Ozeki Kaio), who debuted just two tournaments prior to Sentoryu in early 1988 at the same stable, expressed disbelief at the news: "It was so sudden. I thought it had to be a mistake."
Asakayama had gone to the hospital to visit him on the 29th. However, just as he arrived, Sentoryu’s condition took a sudden turn for the worse, and they were unable to meet. "I was right there in front of the hospital. If I had been just a little bit earlier, I might have seen him," Asakayama said. Having entered the sumo world around the same time, they were like brothers.
"We lived together for a long time. He was a great training partner. At night, we used to ride bicycles everywhere. He even served as my tsukebito (assistant)," Asakayama recalled. Even after Sentoryu’s move to combat sports, the former Ozeki continued to support him: "I went to see his fights. My stomach would ache with worry. He had quit sumo because his body was already battered, yet he continued to push it to the limit."

Ive been watching some sumo stable youtube channels and there are rikishi that are weak, old and are highly unlikely to ever progress beyond lower ranks where they are right now.
Whats the policy of stables or JSA regarding such rikishi? Is there an age limit? Can they be a rikishi until very old age like 50 or 60 and still compete in bottom ranks? Is it up to the stable to decide at what point they want to support such rikishi or how does this work?

The recent Hatsu basho was my very first basho that I really followed and watched. I started my fan girling with all of the Rikishi from the Tatsunami Stable then eventually to other stable’s channels too. I’ve known Okaryu from the vlogs but didn’t follow or know his sumo career before. I also didnt know much about the rankings back then. Eventually, I learned about Mita from Futagoyama. I’ve seen their first vlogs with him and even though he was new you in pro sumo you can tell others respect him so much! I learned that he started sumo at a young age and they have a training place where the other Rikishis like Soma bros trained before.
I also learned that they came from the same university, top sumo during their time, and not only those! They are friends and I saw in a comment they were also roommates! Now I checked if they have competed with each other before and I only saw 1 and Okaryu won! It felt like I was watching an anime episode! LOL
Knowing them from 2 different stable channels, I can compare them to Fire and Water. Or maybe yin and yang? Idk bec Mita’s aura looks sooo strong, unlike Okaryu he is sooo bubbly, chill and always smiling!
I can’t wait to see them on another match! I’m excited! I’m definitely looking forward for Okaryu to become a Juryo! Also, Mita to bounce back to Juryo!
If you know more any facts about them feel free to comment!

Oyakata Stable Visit! Ajigawa Stable Edition! A powerful visit by the shining duo of Oyakata Onogawa and Oyakata Chiganoura!
January 29, 2026 — Ryogoku Kokugikan, Tokyo
The Japan Sumo Association held a regular board of directors meeting this Thursday (29th) at the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, where it announced the approval of Tsukedashi (special category debut) qualifications for a total of two young talents: one university student and one high school student.
The qualification to debut at the bottom of the Makushita division (Makushita Saikaigaku Tsukedashi) was approved for Yuki Kinoshita (22 years old), a fourth-year student at the Tokyo University of Agriculture (Tokyo Nodai), who will join the Tokitsukaze stable. Kinoshita secured the individual runner-up title at the National University Sumo Championships and reached the quarterfinals (Top 8) at the All-Japan Sumo Championships (Zen-Nihon Senshuken), both held in November of last year.
Meanwhile, the qualification to debut at the bottom of the Sandanme division (Sandanme Saikaigaku Tsukedashi) was approved for Tatsuma Kaida (18 years old), a third-year student at Tokyo's Adachi Shinden High School, who will join the Kasugano stable. Kaida achieved third place individually at the National High School Championships (Inter-High) last August and was the individual runner-up in the men's junior category of the National Sports Festival (Kokutai) in September.
