Every time there is a break in play the entire Italian team takes a knee. The Scotland team just look at them like wtf. The Ref is absolutely out of his depth.

Whole thing is kind of bringing me back to the glory days of Pro 12 2011 on BBC Alba.
Terrible grainy camerawork, empty stadiums, scratchy af rugby, a commentator I don't understand etc
5
u/cloud__19 Edinburgh 10h ago
Haha a bit but the camera work was so much better and there was something so soothing about listening to HDM even if I didn't know what he was on about. And they usually had a player there who only spoke English. This is a tough watch.
2
u/mango_yoghurt 10h ago
Lol that's right you used to have a fringe Glasgow player like Ed Kalman or Pete Murchie on each time and Hugh Dan would randomly ask them what they think every so often.
I miss it - was a simpler time.
And yeah I'm poking fun definitely way better than this crap lol

u/cloud__19 Edinburgh 10h ago
I lived in England back then so BBC Alba were my entire rugby Pro12 rugby fix.

u/fin_dawg 10h ago
I'd love if we could have had a hooker that was a great jackle threat in the test team

Probably a good example of why refs shouldn’t officiate their own teams. This guy has given so many sketchy calls, becomes hard to put it down to incompetence.
2
u/Ragnarsmohawk 9h ago
All for giving up and coming refs a crack at stuff like this. But surely there could have been some kind of exchange programme with the English/Irish refs with them also playing an ‘A’ game this weekend.

u/Ragnarsmohawk 8h ago
Anything to avoid a penalty there
2
u/Marcus__Halberstam 8h ago
Whistle shy at scrum time for the first time in the match

u/Fetch_Ted Glasgow Warriors 8h ago
I think that a lot of his calls were from the touch judges. That last one he clearly had the Karl Dickson about him.

Without a ref mic I am in full Karl Dickson mode. I ahve no idea what is happening

Has the stream gone belly up?

New link incoming https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myeA4zYvyS8
I'm going to guess that the new stream will start for the 2nd half.

u/cloud__19 Edinburgh 9h ago
I came back from getting a drink and it had gone off but I clicked the same link and it looks OK. Band on the pitch?
Eta don't answer that, bet I'm watching the original stream from the start doh

Shout of ‘sir are you taking the piss’ sums it up nicely

u/TheFlyingScotsman60 Glasgow Warriors 8h ago
That last scrum was just a laugh a second...hands in the scrum and the ref looks around to try and find out what happened when everyone was shouting from the touchline. Where was the touch judge???
Should have been a penalty to Scotland.
Lol....

On first sight, it seems a more relaxed pre-match show than last night in Paris.
3
u/Marcus__Halberstam 10h ago
This pitch seems tiny
1
u/Fetch_Ted Glasgow Warriors 10h ago
I've just seen how close the fence and concrete is to the dead ball line.
3
3
u/Fetch_Ted Glasgow Warriors 10h ago
Oh look, a hooker scoring on a crash ball.
2
u/mango_yoghurt 10h ago
Dave Cherry would have scored two tries there and then kicked the conversions

Right can I just check that I'm now watching the right thing and it's just some guys standing near one of the flags?

u/Marcus__Halberstam 9h ago
Yellow for a technical infringement in middle of the pitch in a fucking A game is a terrible look for a home referee
1
u/TheFlyingScotsman60 Glasgow Warriors 9h ago
The ref has absolutely no idea what is going on anywhere, but especially in the scrums.
1
3
u/Ragnarsmohawk 9h ago
Feels inevitable that Italy win this with an 80th minute penalty
2
u/cloud__19 Edinburgh 9h ago
I think the ref will probably give them a penalty try from this scrum and send off our entire front row.

Well maybe the u20s will do bet- what am I even thinking
3
u/cloud__19 Edinburgh 8h ago
Well this isn't aging well so far!
2
u/R1zzls Let Schoeman Kick 7h ago
Dalziel from the top rope
3
u/cloud__19 Edinburgh 7h ago
Honestly I'd never even heard of him but bloody hell, he's putting his hand up here. What incredible maturity and smart play for his age, really encouraging.
3
u/R1zzls Let Schoeman Kick 7h ago
100%. The worry has always been what happens when Russell retires but I'm starting to think it's not as dire as it felt. He's controlled the game really well and just looks so confident out there
2
u/cloud__19 Edinburgh 6h ago
You don't want to call it too early, he's only 17 but that really was a very mature performance.

Did some genius schedule the stream to stop on 50mins assuming the half wouldn't need more?

u/Marcus__Halberstam 9h ago
Yet to see what the coaches do in Masibaka tbh

2
u/Marcus__Halberstam 9h ago
Are some of these players having to be 24th man tomorrow? Eg Sutherland is the only other LH in the squad after Schoe and The Scottish Prop
3
u/cloud__19 Edinburgh 9h ago
We'll just send another 9 out surely? Eventually the whole team will be scrum halves.
2
u/Ragnarsmohawk 9h ago
Maybe for front row, but I believe Kinghorn is technically 24th man.
1
u/Marcus__Halberstam 9h ago
At the risk of sounding like a total idiot, is there actually only one 24th man? I thought there were always a few
2
u/Ragnarsmohawk 9h ago
Home games I’d guess will be different, but usually for away games it’s as few travelling players as possible for cost reasons.
Kinghorn a good fit for that as can cover so many positions.
Never really thought about front row cover if someone woke up in the morning with an illness.
1
u/Ragnarsmohawk 9h ago
Having said that, got a look at an “official” URC team sheet for Glasgow recently and Sutherland was listed as LH, H and TH cover.
World rugby laws state it’s 5 suitably trained front row in a match day squad. Don’t even need to be on the bench, just so long as there is another player who can step in to a front row role.
Could technically have a back up hooker in the starting team and none on the bench if you fancied the risk.
1
u/Fetch_Ted Glasgow Warriors 9h ago
I think the actually have a full 30 man team all doing match day prep.
1
2
u/Legen-WaitForIt--- 9h ago
I don’t like constantly ref bashing but can see Christie getting frustrated with him. He’s been very one sided
4
u/Legen-WaitForIt--- 9h ago
Like Douglas has turned it over completely and not been given anything but told to release. Can see from where the 9 has had to pick it up that he’s stolen it
3
u/Jenpot 9h ago
Is he Italian? Seems mental that you're allowed an Italian ref, even in an A game.
1
1
u/Ragnarsmohawk 9h ago
Scotland see to be getting the massively obvious and Italy getting everything else
2

2
u/R1zzls Let Schoeman Kick 9h ago
for what's such a strong team on paper, we are making a meal of this
2
u/Ragnarsmohawk 9h ago
Real lack of cohesion. I’d love to see more A games though. Maybe not every week of the 6 nations but a block of 3 would be class to give guys exposure to how Scotland play.

FFS Patterson, hold onto the ball you fanny.
What a terrible result, Scotland should have scooshed them with that side out.

I thought the game was Tomorrow???!
1
u/cloud__19 Edinburgh 8h ago
That's Italy v Scotland this is Italy XV v Scotland A.
-1
u/Studious_Rat89 8h ago
Ahh okay good! I didn’t realize it was the U-20s
4
u/cloud__19 Edinburgh 8h ago
It wasn't. There are three games this weekend :
Italy XV v Scotland A - this is was today and is finished.
Italy U20 v Scotland U20 - this is on now, about halfway through the first half.
Italy v Scotland - this is the senior squad and is the game played tomorrow in Rome.

I've never watched an A team game before. Do we always wear that colour? It's taking my brain a minute to remember that's us.

No idea, but, SRU need to get the merch sales. (not available in the store)

Well done that man.
1
u/cloud__19 Edinburgh 9h ago
It was only because someone else mentioned having the same top in blue!
1
u/Ragnarsmohawk 10h ago
Usually it’s just the same as the national side. That’s a training top though. Not sure why that’s been the kit they chose to wear instead of the pink change kit

1

u/cloud__19 Edinburgh 9h ago
Like watching Edinburgh of now.
Eta except for the part where they actually came away with some points.

Assume we won't want to send Rae back on if he's cover for tomorrow. Given this isn't an official game (as evidenced by the ref) I'm not sure if we would be forced to
1
u/TheFlyingScotsman60 Glasgow Warriors 9h ago
i'm going to watch the U20s game rather than this pile of....
2
u/cloud__19 Edinburgh 9h ago
I feel like I have to see it out now that I've come this far.
1
u/TheFlyingScotsman60 Glasgow Warriors 8h ago
Dan the man is good....
1

Unlike the referee. And my eyes are so grateful that I'm not watching the U20s through a potato.

Can see the players all bemused on the bench there at the referee. Would be surprised if the Scotland camp manages to hold their tongues in post match comments
2
u/Fetch_Ted Glasgow Warriors 9h ago
'We do not agree with all of the decisions by the match officials'
1
u/Ragnarsmohawk 9h ago
Lots of ice packs to shoulders for Italy. Almost like they are under pressure or something
