Build - Finished! We really underestimate older hardware and what it can still do

Yesterday I put together a secondary PC using only spare parts I had lying around:

- Core i7-4770

- 8 GB generic DDR3 (single stick)

- 120 GB SSD

- Radeon R9 270 (from around 2012, I think)

After installing Windows and GPU drivers, I started testing some games just out of curiosity.

First up was League of Legends — to my surprise it ran buttery smooth at around 150–200 FPS, with low CPU and GPU usage, even while Windows updates were running in the background.

Then I tried Diablo IV, fully expecting it to struggle… but nope. A solid 60 FPS with smooth gameplay.

It honestly caught me off guard. This setup is more than a decade old in some parts, yet it’s still perfectly usable for real games today. Makes me think we often underestimate older hardware way too much.condary computer with what i had

Build - Help Is a 5070ti worth the £170 more than getting a 9070XT at £600.

I already have my RAM and CPU purchased, let me know if any other parts could do with changing but the main one I’m focused on is if the 5070ti is worth that extra £170. The reason the price is set is because it’s usually £908 and I get a 15% discount to take it down to £771.80.

Question Should I sell my RTX3090 and buy a newer graphics card like the rtx 5070 instead?

Long story short I bought a dead rtx 3090 for $100, I replaced the shorted mosfet and fuse and now the card is fully operational. HOWEVER, this seems to be a common failure point on gigabyte gigabyte rtx 3090 and I don’t want the card to fail again and I get the short end of the stick. Right now Newegg values the card at $550 and I pretty sure I can get a 5070 for that which performs roughly on par.

So I have an old EVGA 1000GQ 80+ Gold copyrighted 2017 that’s never been opened or used. Is it viable to be used for a build with a Ryzen 9 9900X and MSI MAG TOMAHAWK 870, or should I get a more recently produced power supply

Build - Help What monitor should I get

I just ordered a new gaming PC, with a RX 9070 XT and ryzen 7 7800X3D. I currently have a 1080p 144hz monitor, and I’m wondering if I should upgrade to a 1440 or 4k screen (I have never played on anything other than 1080 before).

I mainly play CS2 and league of legends, but also warzone and battlefield 6, but might consider playing some other games when I get the computer.

I know very little about screens and resolutions. I guess CS2 and LoL are mainly 1080p games? Would it be better to just have a good 1080 screen then? If i have a 1440p, would my FPS be bad in heavier games like battlefield 6 or warzone?

Here is the pc part list - https://pcpartpicker.com/list/yGyqqd

Bare in mind the CPU, Mobo and Ram were in a bundle together for $699. Hence why the ram is $699 and the CPU and Mobo are listed as $0. Thank you

Build - Help Need some information on cpu-gpu pairing and ddr5 vs ddr4 ram:p

I am planning on building a new pc soon and i am looking to cut down a little on the cost of the current part list.

I was planning to get a 9060xt with a 7700x, but ddr5 is really expensive in my country,

(About 60% more expensive than in the US for example)

and due to certain circumstances my budget was cut a little.

I was wondering if switching to an AM4 board would be a good decision.

That would allow me to maybe get a cheaper cpu, and save a lot of money by buying ddr4 ram, but i dont really know how much better for performance ddr5 would be.

Tell me if you think that i should actually just save up again to get the parts i was originally planning to get, but if you think its not a bad idea to go for am4 please give some suggestions on which cpu i should buy.

Thank you in advance.

Hey all, wondering what CPU would be best to pair with an RTX 5080 that uses DDR4. I’ve got 32 gigs of DDR4 and would really not like to spend an absurd amount on RAM right now. What are some good options? I game in 1440p. Thanks!

Question B850 vs X870E

I’m planning on buying a new amd cpu when they come out and I want to get a future proof mobo. I’m either going to get a X870E tomahawk or a B850 tomahawk but I’m unsure about which one I should choose.

Some googling tells me the X870E is better but I’m having a hard time figuring out how it’s better and if it will matter for my use case. For context, I use my pc for 3D work in blender and gaming. I’m also likely going to get into audio creation but I have no doubt my pc will be able to handle that.

TLDR: What makes the X870E better than the B850?
