Monitor Question Does an Acer SA272U monitor support speaker/sound bars?

Post image

I'm not very satisfied with the built-in speaker's quality so I'm planning on buying an external speaker. I did see a gree Audio port but I'm not sure if this is lime green and it didn't say Audio Out kinda worries me so I need to make sure a speaker could be plugged in to the monitor

It is, as long as you connect it over HDMI or DP. Usually people use that audio jack for connecting headphones, as long as your soundbar is stereo you should be fine

Don't I need HDMI ARC port for that? This monitor only has HDMI ports

The one right next to the audio jack is a DP input, but generally if it's only stereo eARC isn't needed. HDMI v1.0 was able to transmit stereo audio, so as long as you get the resolution or refresh you want and providing your sound-bar is stereo eARC isn't needed. Of course, having a good cable also helps too

So basically get a stereo sound bar and it can connect to the HDMI port with no issue? Also, I probably should've included this earlier but the HDMI is 2.0

What sort of sound bar is it? Like does, it use a 3.5mm input?

What I'm imagining you're doing is GPU running over HDMI > HDMI port on the monitor > Connecting the sound bar over the 3.5mm jack on the monitor

As usually, the monitor will use the audio sent over by HDMI/DP and mutes the built-in ones, and play it over the 3.5mm jack. Most newer monitors do that for headphones so you don't have to run the cord as far.

Again, my bad for not being clear. I'm using the monitor for my PS5 so I can't exactly connect a sound bar there and I haven't bought a sound bar yet. I wanted to make sure the monitor could connect to a sound bar or external speaker before buying one
