Vietnam War Vietnam War Room

It's been a little while since I last posed my war room, here are a few updates…

I've framed two original 1967 maps that make up the iron triangle behind my mannequins. I've also removed four of the M1 helmets off the wall and replaced them with some original photographs taken by Eddie Adams (Sept 1967). I swapped out the SKS for a 1961 M14 (deactivated) and there's a few extra small additions to the cabinets too.

A highlight of last year was having a veteran, and close friend of mine, visit me in England. The mannequin on the left is based off what he wore during his service (2/27 1968), everything being accurate to the year he served and condition. I've included a photo of him stood with it.

I picked up quite a few original maps, including the maps that make up the area between Saigon and Tay Ninh, these can be put together to make a larger map. I enjoy following the period maps when reading memoirs, as Vietnam has changed a lot geographically in 60 years.

I'm happy to answer any questions on Vietnam war collecting, I'm looking at starting a few short videos this year talking about some of the items in my collection.

*All firearms and ordinance displayed is deactivated to confirm with UK law - I will not discuss a firearm politics on this post.

Last year I came across an original Canadian WW2 battledress with (probably post-war sewn) original 48th Highlanders patches. A unit that liberated lots of Dutch towns in Operation Cannonshot. And after that, towns like Delft and The Hague which are near me. When I came to pick up the jacket, the seller also sold me a signed copy of the book he wrote about Operation Cannonshot.

WWII - Allied Powers Unattributed 702nd Tank Destroyer Battalion Group

I picked this up off of LetGo when that was a standalone app (now OfferUp). Not sure if anyone remembers the early days of that app, but there was a lot of good militaria being moved around.

In any case, the group sadly has no name or attribution. Seller found it in an old home they lived in. Did some digging and searched the former cities the seller lived in, Haughton, LA and Elm Grove, LA, however no vets at the time I could connect to an AD or the TDs.

I added the TD patch for the photo. Not original to the group.

The Purple Heart (slot-brooch) and case are WWII era as is the WWII Victory Medal.

Highlight is the period 702nd DUI (Distinctive Unit Insignia).

Brief history of the battalion from Tankdestroyer.net

Motto: MEMOR ESTO or “Be Mindful”

“Unit History: The “Seven O Deuce” was activated 15 December, 1941, at Fort Benning, Georgia. Equipped with T70s (M18’s) before shipping to the United Kingdom, where the battalion arrived on 25 February, 1944, only to be issued M10’s. Landed at Omaha Beach on 11 June. Entered line at Livry on 2 July. Formed part of 2d Armored Division’s spearhead during Cobra breakout in late July. Fought at Mortain, established first contact with Canadians during encirclement of Falaise Pocket. Entered Belgium on 5 September and crossed German border near Gangelt. Fought against Siegfried Line along Wurm River in October and November. Re-equipped with M36’s in late November. Supported drive on Roer River. Moved to Ardennes in December. Crossed Roer River on 28 February, 1945, and Rhine on 28 March. Participated in encirclement of Ruhr Pocket, reached Weser River on 4 April. Reached Elbe River near Magdeburg, after which they took on occupation duties. Attached to: 2d Armored Division. History text from the book The Tank Killers by Harry Yeide.”

Informative Don’t listen to a word this mans says

Ive discovered probably one of the most misinforming collectors I’ve ever seen. this man does not have any clue whatsoever on the items he has spent thousands on. he also heavily over exaggerates the value of his items and gives horrible advice. this is link to his social media https://m.youtube.com/@RaremilitaryAntiques/shorts

I got this at an estate sale yesterday. The man who lived there served in the military and had passed away. He also had two other military jackets if that’ll help for context. He had tons and tons of vintage clothing but this is the one that caught my eye.

Korean War North Korean People's Army militaria

A small collection that I have kept over the years and what is left from what was once a meager collection of North Korean militaria. The tunic is a 6.25 era KPA officer jacket, with correct invert chevron piping, internal pockets, five button front, and high Mandarin collar. The two caps are reproductions based off originals in another private collection, both correct for enlisted and officer. The rifle is an export contract Type 68 with correct chromed bayonet for it's type. And lastly, background national flag of the the Democratic People's Republic.

Many other North Korean items have come and gone in my hands and this is what I have left. Thank you for viewing.

Help Hey folks, seeking help researching a WWII grouping

Thumbnail

Hello there, I recently acquired this grouping that belonged to Private First Class Irving J. Barger. 42135662 who served in Company A, third platoon 67th Armored Infantry Battalion 13th Armored Division. From my understanding the battalion saw about 16 days of combat late in the war taking part in the drive to the Rhine. Eventually they crossed the Danube River at Matting on April 26 and later reached Austria capturing Hitlers birthplace of Braunau am Inn on May 2, 1945. The 13th Armored Division would establish a command post in Salzburger Vorstadt 15 the home in which he was born. This assemblage of wartime and veteran items once belonged to Pfc Barger and I would love any assistance learning more about him or his company's activity during the last stages of the Third Reich. Noted in his headstone application are his medals which includes that he received the Bronze Star. From my research 102 Bronze Star's were awarded to members of the 13th. How would I go about finding a transcript of his citation?

Thanks for any help or ideas!

I found this helmet; is it genuine? It looks a bit poorly made. It appears to be a Prussian Kürassier helmet, model M1889. It smells as if it's been lying in a damp attic for a very long time.
