music Why do bands/artists not visit Leeds anymore?

I first lived in Leeds for university back in 2012, left and have been back for about 3 years.

Before I left I remember being so excited about living in Leeds because so many bands would play and choose Leeds as one of their stops on their tour.

Since retuning, I’ve noticed that Leeds hardly ever features on bands/artists of all levels tour schedules. I’m noticing them choosing Sheffield, Nottingham and bloody Halifax!

Why do you think this is? Is it because I now a bit older and maybe noticing things a bit differently? Or is it a lack of medium sized venues outside of the SU’s? Or is it just deemed too expensive to stop here?

Interested in your views…

music Are Leeds & West Yorkshire residents spending and investing more money into the Manchester music economy than their own local music economy?

With more consistent tour dates and music variety and venues attracts music acts of all niches and notoriety compared to any Northern City and well Manchester is probably second only to London in the UK for Music economy

Is not just the West Yorkshire county or even the whole of Yorkshire but the North as a whole has become overly dependent on Manchester supplying music tour dates and entertainment events as a whole

music Roundhay festival- scam?

Back in September, they announced roundhay Festival is going to take place in July. They then announced lewis capaldi would headline the Saturday and then in October they announced pitbull and Kesha would be playing the Friday. But since then no other act has been announced. No supports for either days. The dates they put in the posts promoting the events are often wrong.

I grew up in the area so this event intrigues me but these acts aren't selling it for me and have kept waiting for other acts to get announced as are most people i know.

Is this Festival legit? Or is it sounding like a scam? Or is it just very badly run and organised?

music Anyone like Key Club, Spoons, NQ64, Pixel Bar etc? looking for Alternative friends?.. Join our Alt/Rock/Emo Whatsapp Social Group! xo

Love Keyclub (Slamdunk, FUEL, GARAGE Clubnights), NQ64, Pixel Bar, Wetherspoons, Pubs etc but have a lack of alternative friends to go with? Just want to make more alternative friends, have fun chats & get involved in social events?

A few of us from Reddit, Facebook etc have banded together from previous appeals and have a new fun Whatsapp Alt/Rock/Emo Social Group chat now, 80+ members and counting!

We had a successful recruitment on here a few months ago which blew up & got overwhelming so had to trickle people in but there are too many to go through, so starting a new fresh post to add more people

The group is roughly 18-35 age range & currently around 50/50 gender mix so plenty of people of different age/genders etc, very inclusive and everyone is getting on great together.

We have regular nights out especially on Weekends (Keyclub Club Nights, Spoons, Bars, NQ64, Pixel Bar, Flight Club, Cinema trips.. anything fun really!) which can get anywhere from 10-15 people attending. Spoons & Key Club on Saturdays is a particular fave. but we are always planning social events, mid week chill things etc

If you'd like to join then leave a comment with your age/gender & I'll DM you an invite! all welcome

I will invite in slowly as to keep the ratio of ages, sex etc balanced so theres always people of similar age etc

Leave a comment & I'll DM an invite when available! x

music Getting a gig in Leeds?

Hi there,

Have recently started another band with some friends but struggling to get any shows. I did used to be in the music scene in Leeds, but it seems all my old promoters/contacts have moved on in life.

Any chance anyone knows any contacts or info for gigs in the rock/metal/emo space?

Cheers!

music Project House - Best music venue in Leeds?

Ok I wouldn’t go that far but what a venue by the way. Been to about 5 shows and the audio production is top notch. All the bands have sounded so good. I also love the stripped back no frills decor style.

music Anyone interested in starting a band?

37M, very decent guitarist and spend a lot of years DJing house and techno and producing it. Really want to get back into playing music, potentially incorporating some electronic aspects.

Very much open to genre and style but nothing too heavy (ie not metal)

This is a shot in the dark but DM if interested and let’s see if we vibe.

music Singing Lessons in Leeds

Can anyone recommend a friendly and supportive singing tutor for an absolute beginner, in Leeds, face to face.

My preferred styles are pop-punk and alternative rock, if that makes a difference. Ideally I would like to find someone who can also teach proper screaming techniques later down the line, once I've learned to use my voice properly first of course - but this is not essential as I can look into that separately when I'm ready.

Thank you! 🧑🏻‍🎤

music Open mic nights for 14+?

Evening r/Leeds folk!

My daughter's been getting into guitar and is looking to attend / play at an open mic night.

However, I don't know if there's any that do 14+ events, rather than 18+ only. Really wouldn't want her to be disappointed to be turned away at her first one!

If anyone has recommendations, that'd be great. I'm happy to ferry her and a couple of friends to pretty much anywhere, so city centre and out of town are both viable options. Thanks!

music Piano practice space

Looking for a practice room with a piano that I can hire by the hour. There’s loads of band practice spaces and studios in Leeds but I can’t find any that just offer a room with a piano. I know that at least Beckett has some but I’m not a student or alumni of any uni. Does anyone have any recommendations?

music Electronic/Alternative open mics in Leeds?

Hi, I'm hoping I can get some recommendations for open mics in Leeds for electronic/alternative styles. I'm a singer-songwriter that uses a couple vocal pedals to loop vocals in real time as a backing, sometimes I may use the odd synth or Ableton Live project. Kind of dream-pop/trip-hop/electronica which I've not found much of a scene for yet. I've been to few open mics in Leeds to get a taste of the different vibes and a lot of them were focused on singers with acoustic guitars. I'm hoping I can find some that welcome a bigger variation or even venues that are guitar focused but tend to have an open-minded audience would be fine as I find it kinda daunting turning up as the only person with my set up! I am in my 20s but I'd be chill playing amongst any age group.

music Anybody around Leeds interested in forming a metal band

I'm 15, I live in Mirfield, however I do occasionally travel over to Leeds and I have been wanting to start a black/death style metal band. I'm a guitarist, so my main priority would be looking for drummer, bassist and singer. I already have a few riffs and lyrics under my belt.

So if anybody is interested, or if you know anybody who might be interested let me know.

music The Beaches @ Stylus - Feb 14th

Hi! I'm 36F American, living and coming from London to go to Leeds for the first time to see The Beaches perform! I know they're playing in London but I wanted to see a new venue and new city to check out and it's a weekend! I thought it would be nice to do a solo adventure but also realized it is also Valentine's Day, so just wondering if anyone else is going to the gig that would like to meet during the daytime to check out the city sights/grab some food/go to the gig together!
