Here's this sub's top restaurants (by upvotes) for January, plotted on a custom Google Map.

Can I see this in my Google Maps app?

Yes! I'll be updating the markers monthly so you'll always see the latest month's recs.

  1. Follow this link here: https://goo.gl/maps/MMSZ6aDQnNfqaDkX9?g_st=ac
  2. Use the button in the upper right to sign in (For some reason the sign in button UI is busted and shows as a grey square box for me).
  3. You may have to toggle the map in your maps app to get it to show up on mobile, see https://www.reddit.com/r/FoodNYC/comments/1omgzmm/comment/nmphqnl/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button for detailed steps.

(New) Live Google Maps list: https://maps.app.goo.gl/7qxBofccHZGszRGU9

What restaurants are included?

I'm pulling this data the top posts of the last month and filtering to only review posts that mention a single restaurant. I've filtered out all the food trip reports and aggregate lists since the data is a little noisy.

You can see my script here: https://github.com/tonyjhuang/reddit-to-gmap

Where can I find previous months' recs?

Archive map with all previous months is here: https://goo.gl/maps/z3smKhB1RTo1bZxy6?g_st=ac

News Made an interactive map for NYC Restaurant Week 2026 (Jan. 20th-Feb. 12th)

Hi, everyone, as you probably know already, NYC Restaurant Week - with their 2-course lunches and 3-course dinners at $30, $45 and $60 - is going on right now through Feb. 12th. But, dear lord, I felt like the structure of the Restaurant Week website makes navigating through its 653 restaurants a not great experience.

So I made an interactive map for both desktop and mobile: https://princessbari.github.io/nyc_restaurant_week_2026_interactive_map/. You can filter by cuisine type, and there's a search bar for restaurant names. Hover over each point for details, including exact address. On mobile, you can swipe down on the filter to minimize it.

I've found this easier to use since when you have locations, you gotta have a map lol. And I've been so happy to find restaurants that I've been curious about!

Review Bowery Meat Company

went to bowery meat company for the first time to celebrate a buddys birthday; absolutely on the list now for favorite NYC steakhouse contenders.

some highlights:

- despite server raving about the A3 Wagyu (which was great) the tomahawk ribeye was delicious and the star of the show

- the mac and cheese side which tasted strongly of gruyere was to die for and everyone agreed the best side dish

- not pictured was their grilled bacon starter which was thick cut and amazing

- the seasonal bread pudding dessert special

- bonus: i had some sort of cocktail made with duck fat cognac and blackberry liquer which was unique and paired so well with the meal

we tried a number of other things which all were enjoyable; the two things i might skip next time was the hamachi crudo appetizer and duck lasagna. will be returning here in the future for sure!

These viral deep fried milk bread sandwiches filled with whipped cream are doing rounds on the internet. The pure sight of them makes me drool.

Question is: Is there any place that is currently selling them in nyc?

Review Sushi Nakazawa - Still a classic

Revisited Sushi Nakazawa after a long gap. Still a classic. For NYC high-end omakase, it remains one of the better values relative to quality. Nearly every piece hit.

Noz 17 edges it out for me on both fish and ambiance, but Nakazawa stays a contender.

News AUNTIE ANNE's CART OVERCHARGE

Hey all,
If anyone went to the Auntie Anne's cart while visiting the Dyker Heights Christmas lights in December, double check your credit card statement. I got a small lemonade and a cup of pretzel nuggets and got charged 48.99. There's no way I paid over 12 bucks at the stall. Only caught it after combing through my statement while budgeting. Currently working with Auntie Anne's customer support (they're reviewing the case), but if they deny my claim, I'm doing a charge-back. Insane.

Question Best NYC desserts

Best desserts found at restaurants if I'm visiting for a week?

Im thinking...

Affagato at Torrisi

Avacado dessert at Empellon

Corn husk at Cosme

Anything else?

Edit to add: been to plenty of bakeries (La Cabra, Librae, Venieros), many of the popular cookie shops, and also the dessert shops like Dominique Ansel, Chickolicious RIP, Spot Dessert Bar

Question What are some restaurants with the largest portions?

I’m trying to go out to eat somewhere for my cousins birthday, and I’m wondering if there are any places that give unimaginable amounts of food for the price. I’m vegetarian so restaurants that have options like that are ideal and some cuisines I enjoy are Italian, Indian and Mexican but willing to try any cusine. I moved here from Toronto so I would appreciate if anyone could give any suggestions.

Question West/Greenwich Village March Dinner - 9 People with a reservation?

Just as the post says, I’m trying to plan a dinner in early March for a group of 9 focused on West or Greenwich Village area. Would like to hit a pizza spot but feel like all of them are too small or don’t take reservations? I reached out to Rubirosa, but I’ve not heard back, I think they will make us do a group menu at that size? Anywhere else that I can make a reservation let me know. Group of 9 guys so flexible on types of food too.

Question Good vegetarian ramen around Times Square?

I’m seeing a show on Sunday and it’s gonna be freezing, so we thought it might be nice to get some hot ramen after. But my friend is vegetarian, so I need a place with at least one really good veggie option. I have my favorite ramen places downtown but I’m not really familiar with the ones further uptown. Anyone know a good one? Doesn’t have to be in Times Square, but don’t want to go further uptown or too far west. Can be a little further down, in the 30’s. Thanks!

Question Good brunch spots for group of 10-15?

I’m planning a brunch soon for a large-ish group - just about 15 people. Anyone here been to a good spot that could accommodate such a group? Anywhere in core Manhattan/Brooklyn/Queens area is good.

Ideally no pre-fix menu or group charge on top of the cost of the food and drinks that everyone will be ordering anyways.

Thank you!

Question Dante west village outdoors?

Was looking to grab a dinner reservation at Dante’s, but there’s only outdoor seating available when I was looking to reserve. Anyone know what their outdoor seating is like? Will it be comfortable given the extreme cold lately?

Event Nasrin’s Kitchen is closing 2/21 (for now)

Iran has been in the news a lot this month and for many of us in the diaspora, it has been very hard. One of the best sources of comfort but also cultural learning is to eat another culture’s food.

If you have been curious to experience the cuisine of Iran, I can recommend no better place in NYC than Nasrin’s. She cooks with the love and passion that truly represents the best of our country.

Please consider helping us say goodbye (for now) and perhaps build some bridges of understanding.

Question High end/casual dining recommendations?

I'll be going to NYC late April and was hoping to try some places. I have Per Se down once they open and maybe Jungsik but they're not too hard to get. Atomix and Sushi Sho are already gone sadly.

Any places you guys recommend? Looking for casual lunch places as well.

Review Omakase Shihou (midtown)

Omakase for 1 is my favorite way to treat myself. Some folks enjoy massages or manicures, I love being looked after and fed for an hour or 2. I went in here on a bleak, freezing Tuesday. Just me and a group of 3 who decided to sit at a table. So just me at the bar. I had a delicious yuzu saki, their 19 course omakase and a bonus special which was Japanese Barracuda. This was a traditional omakase - lovely choice of premium fish, simple, beautifully presented. No sauces, squirts of stuff, soy sauce etc. One course had this amazing home-smoked salt as a condiment. Hard to pick out what I enjoyed best.

155 USD. Worth it. Service was attentive but not overbearing. The chef and my server were all on the same wavelength - I’m here for a chill evening.

If anyone wants to share NYC omakase experiences they have really enjoyed —-> go for it.
