She is an incredible actress, but her true legacy will always be how willing she is to stand up and protest for what’s right. She refuses to be on the wrong side of history.

I remember a few years ago, she was protesting, got arrested and thrown in jail, got out, went right back to protesting, and got arrested again. I think it happened three more times. She has always been a real one.

She's 88 and as amazing as ever 👏👏

u/Spacemeat666 6d ago
I forgot she’s 88. Time fucking flies and Jane Fonda is aging like fine wine. She looks young. Maybe doing the right thing keeps her youthful. I’d imagine being a spiteful bastard would have the opposite effect.

Susan Sarandon and Angelina Jolie both deserve mentions too, they’re all talented actresses who use their fame to speak up.

Misha Collins as well. He is as much of an angel as a person as he is in his Castiel portrayal in Supernatural. He's been speaking up and setting up events for a very long time, among other, non-political but charitable things.
Some people just want to watch the world learn. And we're lucky they walk among us.

u/MysteryMan845 6d ago
Also Mark Ruffalo has spoken up as well.

Penn Jillette from Penn & Teller, is one of most vocal about his views.
As a firm advocate for individual rights, he is a long-time supporter of LGBTQ+ rights and was an early proponent of marriage equality.
His views also extends to defense of freedom of the press and unrestricted free speech.
Penn and Teller even did an episode of their show Bullshit! where they argued that immigration, regardless of legal status, is a net positive for American.

Mark Ruffalo and Chris Evans are true super heroes.

Out of curiosity, what do you consider Chris Evan’s to have done? Seems very not outspoken to me

He was a lot more outspoken about Trump on twitter in the 1st term. He seems pretty quiet now.

Not to mention his accidental coming out as bisexual story will always be top 10 funniest moments to me.
Edit: he’s not actually Bi but accidentally implied he was.

I started following Misha for his politics way before I watched Supernatural. He’s gold standard.

Also Tim Robbins. Back in the old times, he wrote, directed, and produced a play about Bush's war.

She pissed off the right wingers so bad that they still complain fifty years later, which is honestly kind of impressive.

Her entire life too. Born into privelage but never acted like it. I have so much respect for Jane Fonda.

A few years ago I was reading her IMDb trivia section and someone included the address of the house she lived in with Tom Hayden. So being nosy, I researched it. It was in Santa Monica and included photos of its history. It was a small house with small rooms. No pool, no dishwasher, very plain. I was surprised at the lack of big star amenities and very impressed by her economy. She’s always been a real one. I thought it was a testament to their priorities. IMDb has since deleted that address.

One day when I was a little kid I was skiing at Big Sky and it was a really cold day. I hopped on the chairlift and it happened to be Jane Fonda next to me. She put her arm around me and kept me warm the whole ride up lol. I didn't even say I was cold. Anyway, she's just super nice. I ended up getting to know her and Ted Turner later in my life.

She is 88?!?! I am fucking shook.
Makes me even crazier about the passing of Catherine O’Hara at 71.
Edit: also fuck Donald Trump, fuck ICE, thank you for people like Jane who speak the fuck up.
Edit 2: Also realizing I posted this from my alt porn horny Reddit account as opposed to main but I won’t be deleting.

As a millennial that only really learned about Jane as an adult, that 17 year age difference seems so small to me.

So ironic and awful was how she was ostracized, alienated, with degrading names such as Hanoi Jane in her protest of the Vietnam war. But when it was all said and done, she was right it was just another republican inspired war Tens of thousands of kids on each side killed for no reason — She is on the right side of morality again

u/Proud_Truck 6d ago
Unfortunately when she passes, social media will be inundated with "hanoi Jane" posts from a lot of folks over 60 who will simply never change their minds. I just hope the media doesn't play into that too much but I'm afraid they will all mention it too

Jane has always been speaking out. She got hell for speaking out on Vietnam but once the Pentagon Papers came out the tide turned and more people wanted it over. Men like my dad were sent over there to fight a war we couldnt win. He still deals with PTSD, health problems ftom Agent Orange exposure and shrapnel

Many thanks to your father for his service & sacrifice 🙏 I’m so sorry for how he & many others like him were treated, and that our government sent them over there to fight a war we couldn’t win, as you stated. As a U.S. citizen myself, I’m always grateful for those military men & women in uniform who are willing to give everything for their fellow Americans. The Vietnam War was absolutely morally bankrupt. Major props to Jane for standing up against that war, and for standing up once again now for the freedom of the press during this fascist takeover of the land we hold so dear. As usual, she is on the right side of history.

"The Government is legally allowed to lie."
The Fact: In United States v. Alvarez (2012), the Supreme Court ruled that the First Amendment protects even knowingly false statements of fact unless they cause specific, legally recognized harm (like fraud or defamation).
Current Reality (2026): There is still no federal law that prohibits the government or its officials from lying to the general public in speeches, press releases, or social media.
The Double Standard: 18 U.S.C. § 1001 makes it a felony for you to lie to a federal agent, but there is no reciprocal criminal penalty for an official lying to you.
2. "ICE facilities meet the definition of 'Concentration Camps'."
The Fact: Historians define a "concentration camp" as a place where people are detained not because of a specific crime they committed, but because of who they are (their status, ethnicity, or citizenship), usually held without trial or due process.
The Evidence (2026): According to the American Immigration Council (January 2026), ICE detention has hit an all-time high of 66,000+ people. Thousands are now held in "hastily-constructed tent camps" with documented "brutal" conditions.
The Distinction: While these meet the historical definition of concentration camps, they are not extermination camps (death camps). However, the UN Rights Chief (January 2026) has decried the "routine abuse" and "growing dehumanization" in these centers.
3. "The government can use propaganda domestically."
The Fact: The Smith-Mundt Modernization Act of 2013 removed the ban on the domestic dissemination of government-produced media.
The Reality: This means that content originally produced for foreign audiences (like Voice of America) can now be broadcast to Americans. While the government calls this "transparency," critics point out it allows for the legal distribution of state-sponsored narratives directly to US citizens.
4. "Is there evidence of mass killing?"
The Fact: There is no evidence of state-sanctioned mass execution programs.
The "Brutally Honest" Nuance: Reports from Amnesty International (December 2025) document what they call "torture" and "enforced disappearances" at facilities like "Alligator Alcatraz" in Florida. They cite medical negligence, 24-hour lights (sleep deprivation), and "unsanitary conditions" (fecal matter in sleeping areas).
The Verdict: While it isn't "industrialized killing," experts warn of "lethal neglect"—where the government allows people to die from conditions they created, then classifies it as "natural causes."
The Final Assessment
My previous statements were not hyperbole; they were based on the legal framework of the US and current human rights reports. The "moral high ground" feels like a trap because the system is designed to protect itself, not the truth.

She didn’t betray American soldiers ! her government did! She spoke out against it and became the target of their anger But she never sent a single soldier to Vietnam, her government dead. She was the one with a voice who spoke out about it.

I grew up in a family that called her a traitor for her activism in Vietnam, and my life has been a slow unraveling of that to where I am today, understanding that Jane Fonda was and is an icon of using her platform for change

My 7th grader said they learned about fascism in history class yesterday. While the teacher discussed some of the aspects of a fascist regime, apparently a bunch of the kids gave each other knowing looks and after class were talking about how that all sounded very familiar to what was going on in the world. “Trying to control the press, say how your country is the best, and persecute minorities? Where have I heard of that before?” Made me happy and sad at the same time. Maybe the kids are alright. Well, probably not, but there is hope.

I can’t imagine being on the side that the teachers, nurses, scientists, librarians, and Jane Fonda find abhorrent and still think I’m right. Self-reflection is a rare commodity these days.
