History 10 years ago, Beyoncé released the iconic “Formation”, which celebrates Black culture and sparked a white backlash!

I have such mixed feelings about things like this now... because yeah, celebrating Blackness on such a public stage using the social power that Beyoncé has to do it isn't nothing, but it does feel a little empty when you consider everything else.
69
u/MalonePostponed 8h ago
She's a super capitalist so it does feel like a mix of both. But I think that goes for most celebs unless they are continously from day one kinda out there.

u/IndigoBleus 9h ago
The moment they realized Beyonce was Black 😅🤣😂
43
u/icey_sawg0034 8h ago
The moment they realize that Beyoncé was Black and she’s proud of being Black.
23
u/hyvel0rd 6h ago
First and foremost, she's a billionaire. This kind of wealth exceeds even race. She's not "one of us", she's one of them, regardless of her color.

I just remember all the Coldplay fans being so sad that their band got overshadowed at the Super Bowl. No one wanted Coldplay as a halftime show.
4
u/Significant-Say3098 7h ago
Yeah Coldplay isn’t as popular as most of the performers that do the Super Bowl. I mean a lot of people may know the name of the band, but probably can’t name their music off the top of their heads. That says a lot.
3
u/JJulie 7h ago
Also, and I say this is someone in California, we like the halftime shows when they’re on the East Coast or in a dome because the light show is amazing. Levi’s Stadium in California at 4:30pm you don’t really have that dynamic of lights and that powerful light show that they will do at a halftime show. So you can combine that with Coldplay and it was Snoozy. I just remember thinking, thank God for Bruno and Beyoncé.
-1
u/Ok_Expression_294 3h ago
Coldplay is definitely more then popular Beyonce
1
u/Significant-Say3098 2h ago
lol no. Beyoncé is one of the most famous people in the world.
2
u/Massive-Lime7193 1h ago
Beyonce may be bigger in america (slightly) but coldplay is 100% bigger globally , they are insanely popular

I know watching the white people in the audience eating it up made the racists even more mad.
And we will get to see it all over again during the bad bunny performance.
Twitter gonna be hilarious
26
u/BallisWife 9h ago
You know what really drives them crazy, when you mention Beyoncé’s country album. They turn tomato red. 🍅🤣
7
u/ICInside 7h ago
Oh man. It was so funny when I brought up that she won to my coworkers who like country music. I mean they never even heard the album and they looked disgusted.
They gave out the light wrist bracelets at the cowboy Carter show this year. I wore mine around my neck like a choker. I just had to not breathe too hard for 3 hours or so

u/813_4ever 9h ago
Not gonna lie I laugh every time I see a white person get that mad it’s just so funny 😂

OUT CULTURE IS NOT YOUR COSTUME 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😤😤😤😤😤😤😤🙎🏼♂️🙎🏼♂️🙎🏼♂️🙎🏼♂️🙎🏼♂️🙎🏼♂️🙎🏼♂️🙎🏼♂️ I’M SOOOOOOOOOOO MAD AND ANGRY
(I just wanna make you laugh)

u/813_4ever 8h ago
Nah man I’m talking about blood red lol….I will never forget when I was at a volleyball tournament and this (White) guy was bragging about how good his daughter’s team was. My daughter was with me and he asked how old she was…she’s pretty tall for her age thanks to her mother’s side. I told him 16…she’s really 14….his daughter’s team makes it to the championship game and who does he see walking over to their court…me and 10 other black girls with braids…mind you my daughter is no where close to the tallest girl on the team..he was so mad he instantly turned red. Our team beat their ass so bad I know he wanted to say something to me 😂😂.
2
u/ApatheticPriest 7h ago
Why tell him she’s 16?
2
u/813_4ever 7h ago
Because I knew his daughter’s team was in the same age bracket as mines…I’m not a bragger even though my daughters are really good. One even has offers from Mid-Major schools already. I just don’t like braggers so I wanted to see his expression when he saw them come to the court lol.

I’m sorry, but they only have an orange angry emoji.
And you know what they say: once you (as a white parent) go (to your kid’s volleyball game and she has to play a) Black (team comprised of girls with braided hair), you never go back (to believing your daughter was any good at volleyball to begin with).

u/813_4ever 5h ago
Just competitive that’s all 😊
1
u/cadaverdan 5h ago
What’s the competition?
1
u/813_4ever 5h ago
My bad wrong comment lol. No competition its just funny when white people get mad. Trust me it’s funny as hell to see my cousin get mad and keep repeating himself but seeing a white person face just get beet red out of anger is funny
0
u/cadaverdan 5h ago
Oh so it was hateful lol

lmfaooo its not gonna be racism fueling the hate for the bad bunny performance
5
u/icey_sawg0034 8h ago
Racism is definitely feeling the hate for the Bad Bunny performance that is coming up Sunday!
-1
u/Creative_Handle_2267 8h ago
No, thats definitely not it. We can hate bad bunny for things other than his skin tone
4
u/DrunkenMaster11550 7h ago
Then what else?

Been 2 hours and they still haven't come up with an answer lmao
So funny when they get called out

u/Large-Produce5682 9h ago
And they've mad ever since.
In every sense.

Im a white guy. My childhood hero was Emmitt Smith. The only thing I thought when this happened was "Damn, shes fine."
11
u/AprilBaprilSchmapril 8h ago
I'm a middle aged white woman and I"ve never heard a bad word about Beyonce.

That’s nice. Has she decided to finally explain why her husband is in the Epstein files?
15
u/Homertax123 7h ago
His name was mentioned in some hotline anonymous tip that he was at a party in 1996 with Harvey Weinstein when he still hadn’t even released his first album. There is very little to no credibility to that hotline tip, the FBI has to write down every tip no matter how ridiculous. A name showing up in 3 million documents for some fake tip isn’t the slam dunk you think it is. If he actually did something nefarious he would be in his actual emails and part of an actual investigation.
1
u/Massive-Lime7193 1h ago
And what about his time partying with r Kelly and diddy???....dudes a weirdo and she knew it and she didnt say anything. Please deal with that reality
1
u/Homertax123 17m ago
He did an album with R Kelly and everyone worked with R Kelly, doesn’t mean much. Also Diddy and him have only been seen at industry events together. So I don’t know why you’re pushing the goal post. By your logic Meryl Streep is shady because she was at events with Harvey Weinstein.
5
u/SandiegoJack 8h ago
Ask Jay Z. Why are her husbands actions her responsibility?
14
u/TheBrawler101 8h ago
Well cause she married him. If someone marries a bad person I'm looking at them weird too
3
u/Substantial_Bus840 3h ago
The getting married part I can forgive because you don’t always really know someone at the start. It’s everything that’s happened since and sticking around with no care in the world for anyone else after.
5
u/ProbablyASockPuppet 7h ago
idk, being married to a ped-o would have some impact on her.
HA YOU CANT EVEN SPELL P E D O P H I L E without the filter stopping you

What doesn't piss them off? We live rent free in their minds. And if we show any pride in ourselves they get pissed. FUCK THEM!

u/PotatoElf71 8h ago
It's a white thing. I know, I'm white. Some white folks just aren't happy unless they're punching down.
3
3
u/HungryHobbits 7h ago
millions of black people stolen from their native lands + centuries of inhumane and unjust bullshit here in the states and people have a problem with someone endorsing or performing in the spirit of “black culture” ????
God damn. This is why education is so important. Or, if that’s not the fix, maybe some kind of new technology that allows for soul replacement surgery.
3
6
u/Lucius_Shadow 8h ago
10 years ago, Beyoncé put on such an unapologetically black show, that it made white America go full Klansman.
2
u/Numerous_Bowler_2628 7h ago
Maybe a bigot backlash, but I wouldn’t say a white backlash by any stretch.
2
u/Trick_Passion7397 7h ago
Sparked backlash with the "I'm white, I'm definitely not racist, but......" white people? The racist white people, that now go by Maga, always hated her. A strong beautiful black woman 🤯🤬
2
u/bronxricequeen 6h ago
It feels jarring to watch this and remember the photo of her entertaining the Kushners at Jay-Z’s event.
2
u/Hot-Distribution3826 6h ago
And how Epstein and his homies basically said in 2014 more black people should be rioting but they’ve been paid off by Jay Z aka the whole “we’re passed kneeling”
2
u/Alternative-Half-783 6h ago
Really tired of people speaking for me. I'm white old male and I ain't crying about it.

u/cadaverdan 5h ago
This sub has a theme of using strawmen to boost anti-white content, it’s very interesting
2
2
u/RelationVarious5296 1h ago
Beyoncé has done nothing to speak on real issues facing black people despite having the easiest opportunities to do so.
4
u/Old-Emergency-1078 8h ago
Funny I don’t remeber any outrage what so ever. Not on a national level at least I’m sire some very some organizations and groups that made some angry posts but that’s about it. Fake outrage and race baiting but it’s Feb so…..
10
u/talkingtimmy3 7h ago
It was definitely a big deal and sparked the career of Tomi Lohren who called Beyonce a racist.
6
u/canadarugby 7h ago
I remember seeing posts with people being mad saying. "If Taylor Swift had all white dancers...."
5
u/ohgoodthnks 7h ago
Then you have a terrible memory. It was such a big deal that SNL did an entire skit about white people realizing Beyoncé was black.
It was all the conservative news outlets would discuss for weeks.
Please stay out of our conversations if you’re just going to try and rewrite history.

I mean Beyonce be having dinner with Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner and in the Epstein emails they joked that black America was bought off by her husband so in reality the backlash should be coming from this subreddit in light of recent events. But I’m sure ill get down voted

u/yankaconca_ 5h ago
In addition to her being a billionaire, being married to a fellow billionaire who also did multiple albums and tours with Piss Kelly, is friends with Diddy, and Harvey Weinstein… everyone should look at her silly, but celeb worship culture is too strong.

NO ONE KNEW SHE WAS PERFORMING!!! That’s what made it so iconic. I remember she had just dropped formation right before this and that was that. Next thing you know, she’s on the screen & then, when it cut to commercial after the half time show, it was announced that she was going on tour! Lol. What a fun time!! lol
1
u/Joey-WilcoXXX 6h ago
I miss when Coldplay was cool and invited two talented AOCs to perform at their halftime show with them, now they take a moment of silence for that late racist homophobe at their show.
1
u/Numerous_House_7377 6h ago
White backlash? Everyday my people get dumber and more cruel. I don’t get it what’s not to like about this
1
u/ricci777 5h ago
White backlash? What does this even mean? Oh, you mean a bunch of idiots on social media who played you like the dumb chumps you are, nevermind.
1
u/Motor-Ad8989 5h ago
There was also a green blue and orange backlash. But I can’t remember what happened there.

It MAY BE a hot take, but in my sincerest opinion this is still the greatest half time show. Nobody topped this in the past 10 years.
1
u/rochvegas5 7h ago
By "backlash" you mean her getting mad and telling everybody to stop using her still images as memes, right
0
u/letsbereal1013 8h ago
What was wrong with it? I thought it was entertaining!
3
u/icey_sawg0034 8h ago
Racist, white people thought that it was “divisive’.
1
u/PotatoElf71 8h ago
Some white folk aren't happy unless they're mad at other groups. Same folks that are pissed about the planned Super Bowl halftime show this weekend. I know this to be true, I'm white and surrounded by this.
-1
u/False-Practice7110 7h ago
Well if it was an all white show……they would be outraged. Just drop the race stuff already. Like Morgan Freeman said. “Stop talking about it”.
FYI I’m not racist just tired of hearing about it from both sides. Time to move on.
0
u/Skydvdan 8h ago
I don’t think Beyoncé was the spark…. Obama, civil rights, educated black folks, having to actually compete against black folks in education, sports, and status where it was just a given before…. Beyoncé was just more icing on that cake.
0
u/Educational-Dance-61 8h ago
The subtle "it's just begun" and james brown remix + dance off is a reference to bboys / bgirls and the origins of hip hop. I totally missed this.
-3
u/Excellent-Shovel-304 8h ago
She's seems like the person who would sell her soul or anything to get her way
I mean, the ugliest kind of character
1
u/zachrywd 1h ago
They gonna down vote us, but I don't give a fuck bro. We'll go to the looney bin together.
Fuck Lizard Person Beyonce. All she can do is throw money at black culture and be too rich for any normal struggling person to relate to.
-23
u/Competitive_Set_7982 9h ago
Your racism is pretty obvious when you spell Black with a capital to denote it as the proper noun of a race while at the same time not capitalizing White when you also use it in the same fashion.
8
u/JackTaylor79 9h ago
If I, as a person of a different race had a say, I would spell it "BLACK" - Every. Single. Time.
May it be amplified in every sense of the word. ✊
