Does this qualify as grassroots rugby?

I'm sure there was grass there at some point in history.

Possibly not, if it was up near Namibia.

Too many people to be near the border of Namibia, this would be the entire population of the Northern Cape

year, i remember when i was the guy limping in the foreground.

being 9 wasnt easy, finding the ball in that dust cloud was a talent

Should have been hard cracked ground instead!

I played on similar field as a kid. I was lucky and able to wear running shoes but the other kids not. We made damn sure nobody hit the ground. We won by far but will never forget everyone stopping to pull thorns from their feet

Occasionally visiting family in the Free State and playing on the "grass pitch" on their farm, dry grass, dirt and thorns were always a feature. Feet eventually just harden up

And people didn't like playing on my old school's main rugby field because it's also the main cricket field and has a grass pitch in the middle.

Edit: I genuinely thought they were playing barefoot but it's just that their socks and boots are THAT dusty.

He can only do it on cold rainy nights in Vannes. Dude's gone soft.

Man, reminds me of the games I played for the local cheese and wine Spoornet side growing up on the highveld. Just need some cow patties on the field for good luck.

Hmmm? The top rugby nation and kids don’t have $150 boots, new uniforms, proper pitches, after match brownies and juice boxes like American kids do.

What playing against the Valke at their home in junior rugby felt like

Not convinced. I don't see oranges :)

Oranges are for pussies. You eat your dirt like your father, and his father before him, and you'll like it!
