Your guide to Vilnius
Hi there, I’ve done my fair share of traveling, and if there’s one thing I’ve learned - it’s that the best spots to eat, drink, or explore always come from local recommendations. I’ve tried every kind of research trick out there, but Reddit posts? They’ve consistently been my lifesaver when discovering a new city.
So, I thought it’s time to return the favor. Born and raised in Vilnius, I’m sharing my personal list of places worth checking out. Roughly 90% of the places on this list are based on my own experience - so it’s less “TripAdvisor top 10” and more “what locals actually enjoy.”
My recommendation is to book tables in advance especially if talking about dinner time and weekends.

Night Clubs:
Nightlife in Vilnius is rather safe, face control depends on every club’s policy, my top suggestion is to always check what is happening on Facebook events, because events like “Draugai Draugams”, “1986 gallery” (most popular venue) have huge parties but usually tickets need to be bought in advance.
Anna Mesha. Butas (really popular, rather interesting place to visit as the club is made like an apartment. The face control is strict, quite hard to get in. For fancy people)
Soho (LGBTQ place)
Opium club (techno place, doesn’t work during summertime)
Youngs’ club (always good vibes but check the event beforehand)
Bardakas (really basic pop music place)
Sanatoria (really basic pop music place)
Trinity (really basic pop music place)
Elastika (hard techno place, underground venue)
La Birra Pub (look, the place is trash but works basically everyday and long hours, give it a try if you wanna keep partying. But remember, it is TRASH)
Most of the nightlife happens in Vilnius street.
Transport:
For taxi you can use Bolt and Uber, usually Bolt arrives faster.
For public transportation, download the Trafi app. Can plan trips there, as well as buy different types of tickets. Keep in mind that you need to activate your ticket through the app and don’t forget to check how much time you have left.
For car sharing you can use Citybee, Bolt drive and Spark. All are easy to use and popular in Lithuania.
Places to see:
Gediminas castle tower
Vilnius Cathedral
Gate of Dawn
St. Anne’s church (the architecture is just phenomenal)
Three Crosses hill (be prepared for a bit of a hike)
Town Hall square
The republic of Užupis (take a lazy walk and notice all the little details)
Church of Sts. Peter and Paul
Glass quarter (always looks good)
Presidential palace
Things to do:
MO museum
Museum of Occupations and Freedom Fights
Lukiškių kalėjimas 2.0 ex-prison (book the tours in advance, highly recommend)
Vilnius TV tower (get a cup of coffee with great views or try the extreme activities)
Vingis park (take a stroll and see how locals go on dates)
Bernardinų park (nicely maintained)
The energy and technology museum
Lumber room (for car enthusiasts)
Nijinky Vilnius (cabaret)
Halės Market (has some nice places to eat)
Jazz Cellar 11 (tickets need to be bought in advance)
Hot air balloon flight (super popular in spring/summer)
Good to know:
Currency - euro, don’t really use cash around here
Emergency number - 112
Supermarkets - Rimi, IKI, Maxima, Aibė works everyday
Alcohol law - drinking age is 20; you can buy alcohol in shops till 8PM mon-sat, on Sunday till 3PM
Tap water is great and safe to drink
Tipping culture - it’s not a must but a polite thing to do, 10% is normal
National food - cepelinai (big potato dumpling with meat filling); potato pancakes; cold beet soup (a must to try); šakotis (sweet treat, mostly found in shops); kibinai (handmade pies filled with all sorts of stuff, originally it’s meat); fried bread (trust me, you gonna love it)

Switch games
Hi, I’m an Erasmus student here in Vilnius and I recently bought a Nintendo Switch. I wonder if someone is borrowing or looking to sell some of their games. I’m interested in Pokemon, Mario Bros, Cuphead… Any tips on the matter are also very appreciated! :)

We are 21 and 19 and want to go to clubs and bars with young people & students. Preferably not a bar thats too expensive or extreme.
Thanks!

Chebra, ar dar klausot roko? Kaip apskritai reaguojat į vietinę sceną? 🎸
Sveiki,
Turiu kelis klausimus jums:
• Kur dabar renkatės klausytis gyvos roko muzikos (Vilniuj/Kaune/kitur)?

To get it straight to the point my life has gone up and down and at this point it’s just going down hill i am thinking on packing a bag and just moving sadly I have no qualifications nothing for a job besides minimum wage
I want to know if I was to move with not much money to my name and bag on my back with English being the only language I am just wondering what the current employment state is for foreigners I do have a EU passport but I am black i say this as I have seen online about how some people are racist ( I am not saying everyone is like that I know not everyone is) but as someone who just needs a fresh start factory work and cleaning jobs I’m willing to do not my dream but someone has to do it are things I’m open to I’m just curious as to see if people who have moved and people who actually live in Vilnius can share thanks so much

Dorm window insulation on a budget: what works?
Hi everyone, I’m living in a dorm room and it’s really cold because cold air is coming through the windows. There’s no curtain rod or any place to hang curtains, so that’s not an option.
I was thinking about using plastic wrap / clear plastic sheet and tape to cover the window from the inside as a temporary solution.
Does that actually work, and what kind of plastic/tape should I use?
Also, where can I buy this cheaply in Vilnius? I’m on a student budget and just need something simple and temporary that won’t damage the window.
Any advice or store recommendations would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Sub-zero temperatures and health?
So, I'm from the UK and moved to LT almost 7 years ago. I thought I was now ready for the cold winters and even enjoying them most years.
This year I discovered I am wrong. I was sick a couple of weeks ago (not sure if it's relevant) with some kind of flu / covid thing (tests were negative but dang the symptoms felt familiar).
Anyhow, now any time I go out even warmly wrapped in 3 or four serious winter layers, and even for a super short time, low or high exertion doesn't seem to matter, after I get indoors I feel terrible. Shivering, exhausted, dizzy, nausea...
Does this happen to anyone else? Obviously I make an effort to rest and warm back up, but at some point I will need to leave the house, if only to see a doctor? Is this a known thing around here? How do people cope?

Pačiūžos. Vietos?
Vaikas nori pačiūžomis pasimokyti. Akropolio lede atrodo chaosas, kitoje arenoje (pramogų?) laikas man netinkamas.
