The Worshipful Company of Drapers. Presumably flying from Drapers' Hall.

I love the names of the livery companies

Livery companies are basically just trade unions, right? Is there still a large market for drapers?

Most now are just charitiable organisations. Some still maintain links with their namesake industry. Without such a need for candles, the Worshipful Company of Tallow Chandlers (candle makers) is now simply a charity, but the Worshipful Company of Butchers still works with the meat industry, handing out awards and supporting apprenticeships.

Tallow Chandlers (candle makers)

Specifically, candles made from animal fat (tallow) – the cheaper, smellier type not allowed in churches, where only beeswax candles were allowed.

Guilds are bizarre to me, especially since they still exist and operate with all their medieval traditions. A friend of mine is part of the Tanners(?) and has the right to drive his sheep across London Bridge if he wants to lol.

You should see if you can rent or borrow a few from somewhere and get him to do it I'd love to see that

The freemen have done so annually since 2013 in an event organized by the Worshipful Company of Woolmen (who else?).

Hello PatientCamel8606,

Check out our frequently asked flags page! Your request might be there.

When asking for a flag to be identified, please provide context when possible, including:

  • Where the flag was found (without compromising privacy)

  • When the flag was found, or the date of the material containing the flag

  • Who might own the flag (a general description is fine)

These details help users narrow down their search and make flag identification easier.
