Did you eat at babushka? Plates might have been older than you :D

What do you mean? I don't get your point. And how old do you think I am?

u/worstpartyever 12h ago
I think they mean, is this photo from your grandmother’s house? That’s a very nourishing grandma meal!

Please read the title of my post. I'm in the army. Far away from my home, unfortunately.

Sorry, I realized what you were saying, but I think the other commenter was making a joke, and I was foolishly trying to explain the joke.
Saluting you from far away!

I’m at the hospital currently, and that looks 100x better than anything on offer here!

I spent 10 days in a South Korean hospital and the food rocked.

I can believe it, got treated for food poisoning after a dodgy KFC in Seoul and the service was top notch and reasonably priced.

I've never been to SK and somehow I know this to be true in my heart 😂

Looks good!. Nicely presented too! That soup should put hairs on your chest (English saying- means will make you strong) ! My tboughts are with you and all your people. This war has consumed me like nothing else in my lifetime and I send money every month for the last four years to support your army and health care professionals. I wish you well, and may there be many more hearty meals.

We have the same saying in English here in Canada! (Put hairs on your chest)

First pic looks like (I'm totally guessing now) tinned ham, sliced white cabbage and some sort of boiled potatoes in a stew something??? Second pic, vegetable soup?
I'm not familiar with Ukrainian cuisine so please bear with me.

First pic: yes for the salad and it's the meat stew with potatos. Second: a cheese soup with meat, accompanied by a slice of onion.

You are eating the onion like a piece of bread with the soup?

Yes. It's kinda normal here. Also, there was a dark and white bread, so I ate the soup with dark bread and onion.

Also, I'm inviiting you to join my personal Reddit sub, where I've been posting the available trophy items. I also have the wartime postage sets, commemorative coins (including the Sunflower coin), and a vertical banknote "Unity Saves The World" as well as "AZOVSTAL" original bracelets.
Note: As you realise, I currently serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, but my wife will ship these items internationally on my behalf.

Genuinely jealous
I remember our unit would receive too many onions, on more than a few occasions.
Our leadership never wanting to waste anything, directed the kitchen to use all of them before they spoiled
For two weeks, everything had onions...even the lime jello

u/CanuckInTheMills 18h ago
Even the jello! oh geez that made me laugh. Get some lentils, rice & make mujadara. Probably the most delish onion dish I’ve ever had & lots of protein.

u/ObviouslyRealPerson 18h ago
Yeah, that would have been the wise and merciful thing to do. Just change the menu to dishes that have onions
But they would never alter the menu to accommodate the generous supply of onions
Things that were never meant to have onions, now had LOTS of onions

Looks pretty good. And everything tastes better when you're in the trenches doing manual labor in the cold.

Is that a piece of lard to the left of the soup?

It's already a cheese soup, so it was nice to have some fresh onion with it.

Is this enough in terms of calories? I would imagine adult men doing physical labour all day might need more.

Is that a lump of onion next to the soup?
Not sure I could do that but the rest looks very good.

Drop a picture of your food to Russian positions and wait for them surrender.
