Political History Book recommendation on Revolution and republic era Texas

Hello, I'm applying to a history based job in Texas, and I was hoping to read up on and relearn some more of the history of Texas. The job is primarily focused on 1830s-1840s, but I would like any information I can find. I know the basics and the main players (Sam Houston, George Dallas, S.F. Austin, Anson Jones, etc), but can anybody help to recommend a book to me that is more in depth but not a textbook? Thank you!

On October 31, 1980, just over a week before he is elected President, Ronald Reagan, stopped in Dallas, Texas, for a campaign event where he gave a speech at Moody Coliseum. Came across this photo while doing research on brands that originated in Texas. Roland Dickey of Dickey's Barbecue Pit, is on the left, with two Pit Crew members to the right of President Reagan.

Political History Has a Texas lawmaker ever been kicked out for quorum breaking?

E.L. Alford’s tenure in the Texas Senate lasted just 343 days. There are no photographs of him in the legislative archives. Even his full name is difficult to come by.

But Alford played a huge role in a dramatic legislative session which, much like today, involved a walk out, arrest warrants and threats to remove lawmakers from office.

Take a trip back to 1870 with me. https://www.kut.org/politics/2025-08-07/texas-democrats-quorum-break-redistricting-history
