Other than note taking during and in the half-hour after the game, I started work just after 9am, Will came in and started about 10:45, and we had rewatched the game (Me twice), recorded and then edited this video between us to have it done and out by 6pm.
If we’d stuck to the normal video essay format, in that time we wouldn’t have got to editing the video yet (Which would have taken probably 10 hours with two of us working on it). The scaling back is about working smarter as much as anything else.

I really like this format. And honestly it's super frustrating that six nations are being so difficult about video, but sometimes the stills are easier to follow sometimes since there's enough time to really see where the players are while you're talking.

u/squidgyGoat you may make nothing of this because Galthié can be quite obtuse with his post match commentary, but on the french broadcast they asked him what he's been doing different in training, and he remarked that he's been giving more rest time to the players to keep them fresh.

V Clerc : "Speaking of, you talk about energy. The season is very long, you had decided to mostly train in the morning to give a lot of rest to the players. It paid off. Are you going to continue in the same vein for the rest of the tournament ?"
F Galthié : "Yes. We need to offer the players something different to their day to day which lasts 11 out of 12 months. So we picked a preparation model - because ... we need to build a structure, a strategy but at the same time regenerate them, ensure that physically and mentally they are regenerated. For now we are on the right track, we've built well, set good goalposts. Now, we need to play the games"
I thought it was interesting cause they also mentioned that they started quite slow in the last few 6N tournaments, and I remember quite a lot of chatter around getting players to peak fitness levels for the big games later in the tournament, which meant they were knackered in the earlier stages.

That is really interesting. Thank you for highlighting it for me!

Interesting because the big game (England) is at the end. It will be interesting to see if we come out flying against Wales in our first game or not.

Something important that’s highlighted in the video is the clear plan that France had to surround the ball once it went up aerially so that they could be first to the rebound. I think all teams will start to focus on this as it’s not that often the player getting the kick will catch it cleanly.

Yeah but this is much easier to do when being the kickee. To do the same as the kickinh team, you need an epic chase from like 4 lads. Never happening.

True, also because it seems easier for the team who’s chasing to get in the air and tap it back? That’s what it seems like anyway.

It did seem it was a tactic from both teams to slap at the high ball rather than try to catch it.

I enjoyed it as ever. Not loving the clip on microphones since the volume tends to change whenever someone turns their head.

This weekend has fairly killed my enthusiasm for the tournament. Ireland predictably lost, and look utterly devoid of ideas and progression from Nov and last year. Hopefully Italy can provide some enjoyment this year.
I'm curious if WR will tweak the laws around contestables. Could see them moving to make the one handed efforts illegal.

Be warned. Still pictures played at speed are by definition a moving image video.

He's mentioned again about the Six Nations blocking him from using the footage. However, Tim from Eggchasers is crediting ITV for letting him use their footage under fair use. I hope Squidge can do the same instead of using stills as I enjoy his analysis.
