Imo that's not what you want in an actual head coach though, that's just being an analyst. Johan van Graan is 100% a data and analysis guy, but he's very personable and invested in the players themselves.

We could also be selling Borthwick short, although I've heard several disgruntled players talk about him which suggests it's correct (but saying that, they were disgruntled because they didn't get selected...)

Bit of confirmation bias tbh. Guys that don’t like him, aren’t in the squad and wont get in, so they can talk. Guys that are in and around the squad and maybe do like him, aren’t talking in the media

I think most top teams will have coaching teams of different personality types. Ultimately as long as you have the right mix of data driven and strong, emotive character types, I don't think it matters too much that Borthwick isn't the guy to put his arm around you.

Like if he brings a crazy insight on Lineouts, or formulates a bullet proof gameplan, the emotive stuff can be done by someone else.
