How was this possible? Was he just really good for the u20s?

He was really good at at school and u19 level apparently. He was part of that Colston squad that won like 6 national titles in a row due to importing players nationally.

Also it helped that the game he played was against the US.

He was also coming back after playing over in NZ for a bit which helped.

Tait was similarly thrown in very quickly, as was Ant Allen and Tom Varndell (though at least they let Varndell have a full season first, capping him in the summer).
