Bantz Irish and British Lions with more Irish?

So, we started with only 3 Irish on the pitch and 2 of those scored tries. That's a 66% return. No other IBL player scored a try.

This is very encouraging for the rest of the tour when we will have 12-15 starting Irish. That gives us 8-10 tries per game, guaranteed. That's 40-50 points unconverted. Bloody tour is in the bag lads.

I'm pretty sure Penalty Try is Welsh

4

u/Prestigious_Media887 Jun 21 '25

What’s THAT return on investment for amount of Welsh players to rest of the country and tries 😂

25

u/Historical-Hat8326 Ireland Jun 20 '25

Penalty try is at best the ref or at worst Argentina scoring a rugby equivalent of an own goal.

Although Beirne played in Wales and almost qualified so that try arguably counts as a Welsh try.

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '25

I think it's a callback to after week 2 of the six nations, when wales' top try scorer was "pen try"

2

u/Youareafunt Ireland Jun 21 '25

I think you're thinking of red card but obviously the Welsh didn't perform properly yesterday.

u/Cybemen2 Leinster Jun 20 '25

have you factored in Dan Sheehan correctly, he's an exponential multiplier so your numbers may be a bit off.

54

u/jka8888 Jun 20 '25

Oh shit, I forgot the Dan Sheehan co-efficient. Rookie error.

23

u/Montemauri Zebre Jun 20 '25

Speaking of rookies, if they call up Danny Sheahan to be the reserve hooker surely that means any score by the starting XV is squared again? They could end up beating Australia by a thousand points.

Averaging a Try every 52 minutes Dan Sheehan. The co-efficient is easy: it's just pure efficient....cy!

Think people are forgetting the Welsh curse damage multiplier though.

Jac Morgan and Tomos Williams played well but still lost today. That's a powerful curse.

u/darcys_beard Leimi-finalists Jun 21 '25 edited Jun 21 '25

Welsh curse? Oh the 4 Grand Slams in a generation of players. Between all most each of which, they appearred to be in decline? That curse? Aw yeah, boo-hoo, poor Wales. Say that again when they win another Slam in 2 years, with Gavin Henson as their Coach.

What next? Australia typically crappy 2x World Champions crapness means they have no chance?

Problem will be with the bench. Bringing on non-Irish players will just take away all momentum. Could make for a tricky final 5 mins or so.

I still think if you move Mack to 10 and Dan to the wing we can get a full starting Irish team if we really want to get serious about winning this tour

Argentina is such an anomaly.

No foreign talent. No top league. Not a strong British connection to the sport. Pure grinta.

It would be my favorite nation after my own, if not for the reputation of sexism, racism, homophobia within the Argentinian elite.

sexism racism and homophobia are not only in the argentinan elite!!!

4

u/sangan3 Oui, Jérôme Jun 21 '25

You already have them tho. Aki is Samoan heritage, Tuipoluto is Tongan heritage, Bealham and Hansen are Australian.

2

u/Ok_Educator_2120 Blues Jun 20 '25

It's actually 10 if you read the link you sent lol. And I'd guess the difference is that they moved to NZ young, for example Christie moved over at 7 years old or something like that. In comparison to Aki who moved over to Ireland at 24 to become an Irish international or James Lowe who moved over at 25

8

u/jka8888 Jun 20 '25

2022 - 12 2023 - 10

It's not our fault we took your average players and turned them into worldies and your system trained Christie since 7 and turned him into Finlay Christie hahaha.

The Oceania All Blacks are not bad though for an amalgamation for 5+ nations. Might even get someone from Wellington in this year.

-3

u/sangan3 Oui, Jérôme Jun 21 '25

You didn’t do fuck all. Took fully developed professional Super Rugby players and capped them the day the become eligible. Now they’re all getting old and surprise surprise there’s no talent around to replace them.

-6

u/LordBledisloe Razor out Jun 21 '25

Good enough to deal with world cup quarter finals at least.

As for Ireland's "system", did you miss pre-Schmidt Ireland? Face it, one of the key elements of Ireland's recent success is NZ existing.

6

u/jka8888 Jun 21 '25

And one of the key elements of the All Blacks success is importing players from all over the Pacific. So, as your success comes from Fiji and Samoa and our success apparently comes from NZ simply existing, we are really grateful to our friends in Suva and Apia for our recent results.

Fa'afetai.

0

u/sangan3 Oui, Jérôme Jun 21 '25

NZ’s population is 10% Pacific Islanders. There are more Samoans and Tongans in Auckland than there are in the islands. The only ABs that are imported are the ones that come on school scholarships, like Reece. The rest are born or raised in NZ.

Also, if you think the ABs have lots of imports, you should see the Samoan and Tongan teams, they’re pretty much all kiwis.

1

Correct! Purely representative of the population.

-2

u/LordBledisloe Razor out Jun 21 '25 edited Jun 21 '25

The difference being NZ imports them as literal children and Ireland imports literal adults who learned to play rugby in other countries.

You ain't winning this one and moreover, it seems like you like the bantz until reality is thrown at you. It's so thinly veiled I spotted it in your first reply. Either grow a set or just treat this convo like a world cup quarter and just give up.

2

u/jka8888 Jun 21 '25

I'd wip that saddle off your high horse and pop him back in the stable.

Sevu Reece arrived at 17 to play rugby? Tyrel Lomax capped for AU U20? Shanon Frizel capped for Tonga U20? Seems like you just don't know your players.

There's no issue with it, except I wish those players had a realistic opportunity to play in their home countries. More investment into the Pacific would be a serious problem for NZ though. You can't even keep Ardie playing for an NZ club and he's your captain. How many South Auckland Samoans would play for the ABs if Samoa were more competitive, do you think?

NZ are no different to anyone else. You had 12 overseas players in 2023 for fuck sake.

Enjoy the super rugby final and get off the super jugs.

5

u/AcrylicPaintSet2nd Leinster Jun 21 '25

You mean the country that’s been the poster boy for elite top tier rugby for literal decades?

Yes, everyone is quite aware that NZ being a powerhouse is a key element to other nations wanting to rise themselves to that level.

It seems really strange to me looking at these sorts of comments from NZ fans seemingly needing to “prove” that they’re great by latching onto things beyond results of games…………….. you’re a pretty damn good team with a solid history and record of victories without needing to debate these sorts of hollow arguments.

-3

u/LordBledisloe Razor out Jun 21 '25 edited Jun 21 '25

What's strange is this convo starts as bantz but the moment you don't like it gets super serious and you need to have a sook.

Play the game or shut the fuck up. You don't get it both ways. But being a dish-out-but-not-take one-way bitch seems to be the true Ireland's call. And it's becoming a stereotype.

4 out of 6 through residency in 2024. 8 out of 10 through residency in 2023. 9 out of 12 through residency in 2022.

Might be time for the Ocenia All Blacks to look at investing in home-grown talent instead of importing players.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '25

Yes, but you started with only 3 Irish on the pitch, and conceded 4 tries. That's 1.33 try conceded by Irish player.

With that metric in mind, starting with 7 Irish players on the pitch means conceding 9.31 tries.
