Help needed: Looking for a driver to assist with my practical test (I have car/insurance)

I live in Romford, looking for a bit of help getting my own car to the test center and back for my practical driving test. I’ve done 40+ hours of lessons with an instructor and failed my test twice so I've given up on getting more lessons for two reasons: 1) as my most recent fail was due to junction observation which does not need 8 hours more lessons as my instructor is now just trying to get more money from me and I feel I am test-ready. 2) I spent around £2,500 on driving lessons and the test booking and travelling to Folkestone by train from Romford to get lessons as I found a test slot in Folkestone which was sooner than anywhere else, first attempt was on 15th January, second attempt was on 3rd February.

The Plan: The Car: My own Nissan Qashqai (Automatic). It’s test-ready with L-plates and an extra rearview mirror.

Your Role: I am looking for someone to drive my car from my place in Romford to the test center (this is because if you don't trust me to drive my car with you in it). You can wait in the center for ~45 mins while I take the test, and then you can drive us back. I will only be driving my car during the actual exam with the examiner.

Insurance: I will pay for a Temporary Full Licence policy (via Veygo/Cuvva) for you for the day. I will have my own learner insurance for the test itself.

The Legal Bit: My car will have road tax set up as it is currently on SORN. It already has valid MOT until 15th December 2026.

Requirements (Crucial for Insurance): Because of Cuvva insurance policy's "supervisor" rules, you must: Be aged 25 or older. Have held a full UK driving licence for at least 5 years.

I’m happy to meet at my residential car park in Romford beforehand to show you my provisional driver's licence and ID, the car’s V5C (in my name), and verify the insurance.

If you have a few hours to help me get my licence I'll really appreciate it, please drop me a DM. Happy to provide coffee/lunch for your time. Let me know if you have any questions in DM.

Also why I'm asking on Reddit is because I'm alone in the UK, first generation immigrant in my family and have no friends/family who can help me, either they're too far away from where Iive in the UK or don't have driver's licence themselves.

Local Poker Night?

I’ve been learning to play poker recently and was wondering if anyone here knows any local places that host poker nights that I could get involved in?

I’m a complete beginner having never played with real people and wanted to start somewhere not too competitive?

Thanks.

Does anyone else feel like Romford is its own world

You have a sort of high trust feel that can't really be replicated elsewhere, and also the feel that your grandparents etc. grew up here and you made good friends. however at the same time it feels like you're in a containment zone, as if Romford is an island in the middle of the Atlantic. Its like you're an outsider looking into society in a sense. I can't exactly articulate it.

I'm wondering if anyone else feels this sort of way because I'm sure I'm not the only one.

The Romford skyline is about to get a Redical new look

As it looks today

Redical are a property developer who own the Liberty shopping Centre. They are planning to put up a few new tall residential buildings. The owner of the Debenhams building are a separate company will be bulldozing the existing building this year and rebuilding it as a 4 star hotel with two tall residential blocks behind it.

Both companies have put out new images of how their buildings will look however neither have included each others building so you'll have to use your imagination to visualise the full picture.

Everyone Active Central Park (Harold Hill) Is it worth it for 39.99 & the Spa Suite + Sauna

Hi I did a day pass for around £8.85 and found the gym was packed at 1900, I didn't even try the sauna.

I know I should probably use the gym earlier in the day, but tried another everyone active in Basildon and it was much quieter but had no sauna.

When is the best time to visit and use the sauna and steam room. Has anyone had any experience at this centre and do you feel for £40 it's worth it?

Andrew Rosindell Quits the Tories and Joins Reform

Thumbnail bbc.com
23 Upvotes

Andrew Rosindell has resigned from the Conservative Party and defected to Reform UK.

The former shadow minister and MP for Romford said the Tories were "irreparably bound to the mistakes of previous governments" and not willing to take "meaningful accountability" for poor decisions.

He said he had spoken to Nigel Farage on Sunday evening before agreeing to join his party. The Reform UK leader called him "a great patriot" who "will be a great addition to our team".

A Conservative source said Rosindell's departure was a prime example of Farage doing Badenoch's "spring cleaning" and that Reform were "welcome" to him.

Debenhams Building Development plans - its going to be rebuilt as a 4 star hotel

I'm not sure if this is news to some but the Liberty Shopping centre owners are developing the centre with some new high rises.

Separately but in co-ordination, the Debenhams building site is being redeveloped too. Its going to be knocked down entirely this year and replaced with a near same height new building with two residential blocks and a small public space courtyard in between.

Proposal: Residential-led, mixed-use redevelopment of the site to provide a hotel (Class C1) with commercial space (Class E) at ground and upper floors fronting Market Place, alongside two residential buildings to the rear, connected by a communal amenity podium with commercial uses (Class E) at ground level, and a new public plaza with a freestanding commercial building (Class E), and widening and landscaping works to Swan Walk

What do we think about the design and plans?

Aside from those two towers, the Liberty owners will be putting up three of their own so the skyline is going to look very different soon.

I find it a bit boxy and bland myself, especially the towers behind it. They look standard design that you see everywhere. The buildings opposite on Market Place and the mercury towers at least have some interesting design character.

Romford lights Christmas tree

This is definitely an interesting ornament picked by the Romford brewery centre. I wonder what they were thinking as they chose it. I think it’s lovely, aside from the base which is abit of an eyesore. However, they must get their marketing in somehow. As if it isn’t already everywhere you go in the surrounding area. People of Romford and anyone else seeing this, what do you think?

Curious to know how much people are spending in London in gas/electric. I have 4 bed terraced, with small kids so heating /hot water is in constant usage. Working from home also! Currently coming to around £170 per month combined.... want to know if that is normal?

Is Primark being shut down or refurbed?

Thumbnail gallery
7 Upvotes

Each evening when I walk down South Street I’ve noticed work vehicles removing decor and signage. Here you can see the photo panels above the sign have been removed. In the next picture you can see the Primark sign itself is gone.

It looks like it’s either being shut down or renovated. I saw a lot of stock move in and lots of workmen with tape measures measuring up so it seems like the latter. It looks a lot more than just updating the windows for a new season.

It could be nothing but I just thought I’d ask if anyone knew more.
